Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 237: Chapter 237 If Someone Offends Me, I Will Not Let It Go

Soon, Qiu Baolin had written down everything Yunyi asked for and pressed his fingerprint on it.

Of course, Qiu Baojuan couldn’t escape either.

Yunyi also had the few people present that evening sign as witnesses, as she didn’t want anyone to turn against her in the future.

After the Qiu siblings had left, the Branch Secretary spoke up, ”Chu Zhiqing, I know you let them choose for themselves in consideration of Songling’s interests. We will remember this kindness.”

Since they understood her intentions, she decided not to say more. ”After all, I am still a member of Songling Village, so naturally, I have to think about everyone.”

After exchanging pleasantries, everyone dispersed.

If she hadn’t been reassigned from here, she would certainly have sent those siblings to jail as a warning to those in the village who had designs on her. But now that she was leaving, she didn’t want to earn a bad reputation. In those days, someone from the village going to jail could seriously damage their family’s standing and indirectly affect the marriage prospects of the village’s young people. After all, during her time in the village, most people had been quite kind. Besides, they shouldn’t assume they were off the hook just because they weren’t going to jail. That was impossible. She lived by a principle: if no one offended her, she wouldn’t offend them. But if someone did offend her, she would never let it go.

「The next morning,」

When Yunyi came down from the mountain, she saw a young boy at the gate of her small courtyard. ”Who are you?”

The boy was somewhat reserved. ”I’m Xue Zhidong.”

Upon hearing the name, Yunyi remembered him. He was the little boy who had been bullied by other village children. ”Do you need something from me?”

Xue Zhidong handed over the basket he was carrying. ”My grandma asked me to bring this to you.”

Yunyi looked down at the basket, which contained a pair of cotton shoes and a bowl of Northeast soybean paste.

Then Xue Zhidong added, ”The soybean paste my grandma makes is the best in the brigade. Please don’t look down on it.”

Yunyi naturally knew why the child had come to give her these things. It was undoubtedly because of the six yuan she had previously given them as support. But with both cotton shoes and soybean paste, she felt somewhat embarrassed by such generosity.

Seeing Yunyi hesitate to accept, Xue Zhidong’s eyes dimmed.

Yunyi looked up and saw his expression. Not wanting him to misunderstand, she quickly reached out and took the basket. A warmth spread through her, and a new idea formed. ”I’ll accept these. Just give me a moment, and I’ll empty the basket for you.”

Opening the gate, she said, ”Come in.”

She went into the kitchen, poured the soybean paste into an enamel jar, washed the bowl clean, and then filled it with some braised fish with tofu she had made a few days ago. ”This is braised fish with tofu I made myself. Take it back for your family to try.”

Xue Zhidong looked embarrassed and put his hands behind his back. ”I can’t accept that.”

Yunyi gently pulled his hand forward. ”I made plenty, so it’s just right for you to take some back to try. Also, please thank your grandmother for me. I really like the shoes.”

She had glanced at them earlier; the cotton shoes were her size and clearly made with care.

Xue Zhidong looked at the basket placed into his hands, bit his lip, and thanked her, ”Thank you. You’re a good person.”

After saying this, he bowed to Yunyi before leaving.

Yunyi watched him walk away, a small smile playing on her lips.

While in the fields, she had heard the older women in the production team discussing the Xue Family’s grandmother and grandson. Despite their hard life, both the grandmother and grandson were remarkably determined. She was naturally willing to offer more help to people who knew how to be grateful.

After a quick meal, she walked towards the brigade office. Upon her arrival, the Branch Secretary was busy.

Today, the village was to clean out the Qingtang pond. The Branch Secretary had stayed behind to oversee the work, while the Brigade Leader had gone into town early that morning to pick up the educated youths.
