Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 192: Chapter 192 Dreamland

The current situation was extraordinary; prescriptions were being written standing up, and it was impossible to have any kind of informed consent form for surgeries. But just to be safe, Yunyi still turned around and quickly wrote a handwritten consent form for the man to sign.

After all, it’s hard to know what’s in someone’s heart, even if you know their face. I don’t want my good intentions to lead to bad outcomes.

Although she had secretly used the Spatial Well Water to save many people over these past few days, the situation now was different. If this young girl’s leg were treated by any other doctor, amputation to save her life would be the only option.

I have confidence in my own medicine, but one must always be prepared for any eventuality.

Turning back to the tent, the nurse had already prepared everything. Now, there was no dedicated anesthetist; Yunyi had to handle everything herself.

Due to the severe infection, the debridement took a long time. She drained the purulent effusion, aligned the bones, sprinkled her homemade medicinal powder over the area, and then had her assistant Liao Xiaojiao set and wrap the limb.

After the surgery, Yunyi was so hungry she could feel her stomach clinging to her spine. Thankfully, she had gotten along well with everyone these days, especially the young nurses close to her age, who were very concerned about her.

Just as she was about to stand up and look for something to eat, Nurse Zhang Yuanyuan came running over. ”Doctor Chu, I’ve brought you some food.”

A surge of warmth filled Yunyi’s heart. ”Really, thank you so much. I’m so hungry I’m feeling faint.”

The auntie responsible for delivering food was particularly sympathetic towards them. ”Is it enough? Do you want me to add some more?”

Yunyi waved her hand. ”Thank you, Auntie, it’s enough.”

The auntie’s face was full of affection. ”You all need to eat well, or you won’t have the strength to save others.”

Everyone saw the hardships faced by the medical staff.

For over a week, they had all been working non-stop: saving patients during the day and taking night shifts. Medical care was provided as needed, without requiring appointments. They examined the wounded and sick on the ground or on donkey carts, even administering injections while squatting.

Many medical staff members had gone several days without sleep.

「Half a month after the earthquake.」

By then, roads were somewhat passable, and routes to the outside world had mostly been cleared.

The leaders realized that local medical facilities were almost completely destroyed and medical resources were severely lacking. Relying solely on immediate emergency response could only address urgent needs; it could not fulfill the entire medical mission. Therefore, the decision was made to mobilize national medical resources for full support and to transfer all critically ill patients to various parts of the country for further rescue and treatment.

Thus began a massive, arduous, and meticulously planned campaign to transfer these patients.

To ensure no accidents occurred to the critically injured during transfer, medical personnel had to accompany them. Staff was scarce, and Yunyi and her colleagues found themselves even busier.

「That day.」

Shortly after Yunyi finished her meal, she attended to a patient with a partially dislocated cervical vertebra combined with facet joint locking, causing numbness and weakness in both hands.

Yunyi had Liao Xiaojiao tightly hold the patient’s hands while she grasped the patient’s mandible and occiput, applying traction in opposite directions. Once in position, Yunyi decisively adjusted the cervical vertebra. With a CRACK, the numbness in the patient’s hands immediately disappeared.

A patient’s family member, who often came to help, said with a smile, ”These past few days, all these young ladies have been trained into Herculeses!”

Someone else chimed in, praising Yunyi, ”When Doctor Chu first arrived, many doubted her. But Doctor Chu won everyone over with her exceptional medical skills.”

Just as Yunyi was about to speak, she saw a soldier running towards them, carrying someone on his back. The words on the tip of her tongue changed. ”Get ready to receive a patient.”

However, upon recognizing the newcomer, both Yunyi and Liao Xiaojiao paused for a moment. ”Battalion Commander Huo.”

”Doctor... Yun— Doctor Chu.”

After Huo Jingrui returned to his unit and saw Pan Huixin, he immediately reported the mission’s status to his superiors and then directly applied to join the rescue effort in the disaster area.

Yunyi had no sooner arrived in Tang City than he did. These past few days, whenever he saw medical personnel, he would look closely, hoping to find her.

Whenever I have spare time, I find myself thinking of her. Most importantly, I don’t know why, but ever since returning from Ji Province, every time I sleep, I dream of people in ancient clothing. And the woman in my dreams bears a name that sounds exactly like Yunyi’s—Yun Yi. I don’t know why, but I feel a peculiar familiarity with those dreams. I can remember the fragments vividly even after waking up. Seeing Yunyi now, I can’t help but think of those dreams again.
