Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Don’t Want to Expose Myself

With no time to rest, they immediately boarded another jeep that was parked there.

Huo Jingrui was rather considerate, having had someone place plenty of food and drink in the vehicle beforehand.

After personally verifying the number of people, he then gave the order, ”Let’s move out.”

The events in Tang City, handled by the Huo Family, had gained the attention of the higher-ups. Although the disaster’s arrival couldn’t be avoided, they indeed minimized casualties and property damage.

At that time, Huo Jingrui used his family’s special method of communication to send the news back to Beijing, and the senior Huo quickly made arrangements. He not only sent people to inspect the situation but also rushed there himself.

Since the two cities weren’t too far apart, once he confirmed something was amiss in various places, he decisively sent the information up the chain.

Yunyi didn’t want to expose herself, so she had Huo Jingrui omit mentioning her.

Huo Jingrui had already considered this; with such significant credit falling to the Huo Family, he couldn’t allow Yunyi to be disadvantaged.

The convoy stopped only twice en route, merely for purchasing food since they temporarily couldn’t contact Beijing due to the earthquake.

To ensure the safe transfer of these people back to Beijing, they had to be extra cautious and wary of any remaining threats from those individuals.

After all, these people did know quite a bit, and interrogation revealed several hideouts and personnel lists for major and medium-sized cities.

If these people were handed over to the special departments, perhaps even more information could be unearthed.

Yunyi knew what she would have to face next, so aside from eating, she spent most of her time catching up on sleep.

Since many roads to Tang City were cut off, Yunyi had to follow them back to Beijing before heading to Tang City.

A mudslide occurred on the way back to Beijing, and the people in the vehicle participated in the rescue. By the time they reached Beijing, it was already the morning of the third day.

After Huo Jingrui completed the handover with the relevant departments, it was already past three in the afternoon.

As it happened, he received news that an hour later, a rescue team was set to depart from Beijing to the disaster area, which included a medical team.

He quickly pulled some strings and added Yunyi’s name to the list. Although Yunyi was volunteering for the rescue, he still wanted to secure the honors she deserved, as these honors would ultimately only benefit her.

The two of them hurried over, finding the team leader to explain the situation.

Learning that Yunyi was skilled in medicine, versed in both Chinese and Western practices, the medical team was quite willing to take her in.

Very soon, Yunyi received her own identity badge. Although she was an auxiliary member, at least her participation was documented.

Huo Jingrui had his own duties and could only escort her this far. Watching her board the vehicle, he said, ”Take care, and be sure to stay safe.”

Yunyi nodded at him and replied, ”I will, thanks.”

Watching the vehicle disappear, Huo Jingrui then turned and boarded his car.

He needed to return home first to meet with the old master before returning to his military unit to cancel his leave and apply to join the Tang City rescue mission.

But the moment he stepped through the door, his mother Jiang Jingya, with a look of distress, said, ”Son, how long have you been without rest? You look so worn down.”

Huo Jingrui, who hadn’t rested much these past days, naturally looked worse for wear. ”Mom, where’s Dad?” he asked.

Jiang Jingya stepped back with a look of disgust and said, ”Your father hasn’t come back yet. You rush and get cleaned up first. I’ll have Auntie Zhang make you some soup to replenish your strength.”

Huo Jingrui’s brow furrowed slightly. ”Mom, I have to hurry back to the military tonight, so don’t bother Auntie Zhang with that. I’ll go wash up and just have something simple to eat.”

After seeing her son go upstairs, Jiang Jingya turned and entered the kitchen.
