Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 166: Chapter 166 Finally Found

Originally, Yunyi had wanted to provide Huo Jingrui and the others with some Sleeping Drug. However, the weather was uncooperative; the wind blew continuously and quite erratically.

If there were any accidents, Yunyi couldn’t bear the responsibility, especially since those men were armed.

At a gesture from Huo Jingrui, everyone dispersed towards their respective targets. After finding the nearest hiding spots, they all remained in position, awaiting orders.

Not far away, those men were sitting in a circle. One said, ”Boss, our movements must have been exposed. Otherwise, none of them would have vanished without a trace.”

The man sitting at the head took the roasted chicken handed to him and swept a fierce glance at the speaker. ”What are your thoughts?”

The man, seeing the boss didn’t lose his temper, continued, ”Boss, we’ve been going around in circles in these mountains and have practically scoured every inch of them, but we still haven’t found that secret research site they mentioned.

Now, not only are our food supplies dwindling, but we’re even running out of salt. Should we really keep holding out here in these deep mountains?”

After speaking, he turned to look at the several disheveled men again. ”It’s been so long, and we haven’t seen the military come after us,” he said. ”There are only two possibilities. First, our brothers kept their mouths shut and didn’t reveal our exact situation in the mountains. Second, maybe they’ve already lost their lives, so the military is probably still searching in circles out here.”

The boss’s eyes instantly turned bloodthirsty. ”Don’t forget the promise we made before we set out!”

They were speaking Japanese, which Yunyi, with her acute senses, naturally heard clearly.

However, of the soldiers Huo Jingrui had brought, only one understood Japanese, and even he couldn’t hear very clearly because of the wind.

He was so anxious that sweat beaded on his forehead.

Yunyi, unable to watch any longer, moved closer to Huo Jingrui and quietly translated for him.

At that moment, an enemy agent who was roasting wild game nearby said, ”Dragging them along is a burden. We might as well dispose of them here. That woman’s not bad looking; the brothers could have some fun.”

Someone beside him chimed in with a lecherous grin, ”Exactly. We brothers have been in these mountains for so long; it’s been ages since we’ve even caught the scent of a woman.”

The boss, having devoured the whole chicken, turned to look at the three hostages nearby. ”You’ve got a point. Even if we have our fun with her, it won’t stop her from being a hostage.”

Having said that, he stood up and walked towards the three hostages.

Qiao Wenyu and the others couldn’t understand Japanese, but they could roughly guess what was happening from their captors’ tones and expressions.

Wei Zijia was so frightened she started to sob.

Qiao Wenyu glared at the man approaching them and demanded through gritted teeth, ”What do you think you’re doing?”

The man replied in Chinese with malicious intent, ”Guess?”

At that moment, all the enemy agents’ attention was drawn to the confrontation.

Seeing his chance, Huo Jingrui gave a signal. His soldiers, along with the personnel from the Armed Forces Department assisting with the capture, swiftly moved in.

By the time the Japanese realized what was happening, they had already lost the initiative and were at a disadvantage.

The moment Huo Jingrui gave the command, he shot towards the enemy agent leader at top speed, aiming a punch straight at his face.

But the man was no pushover. His reflexes were sharp, and the two quickly fell into combat.

As Huo Jingrui charged forward, Yunyi also rushed towards her own objective.

The three hostages, who had been in despair, felt as if gods had descended when they saw the uniformed soldiers appear.

Seeing Yunyi, Qiao Wenyu was so excited he stuttered, ”You... you... you... Is it really you?”
