Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1787 Familiar Place

For the next several minutes, Adam continued to teleport at fixed intervals and cast giant flaming spheres toward the sky.

The Cult Leader, who had finally caught up to the raven-haired youth, couldnʼt help but turn solemn.

One thought echoed in his crazed mind.

How is the boy casting spells?

Either Adamʼs comprehension of the School of Invocation was similarly very deep, allowing him to cast Great Fireballs with one hand.

Or… he had somehow managed to completely heal his injured hand.

Both outcomes were equally terrifying.

Watching the youth hurl several Great Fireballs from different regions within the vast sea of forest ahead, the lich couldnʼt help but become extremely wary of what Adam was attempting to do.

The lich knew it was likely a trap.

But the Dark King was exhausted, injured, heavily depleted, and rapidly running out of options. He could not let this opportunity go.

Besides, even if danger truly awaited ahead, the Cult Leader remained confident in his ability to defend against whatever the youth had prepared.

More importantly, he could no longer allow Adam to escape — especially considering he could teleport. No matter what awaited him within that forest, he had no choice but to pursue.

And so, he activated his defensive artifact and approached his target.

As he pursued the Dark King through the forest, he gradually noticed something strange.

The Great Fireballs Adam had been hurling were not random. They were following a circular trajectory. One after another, the blazing spheres soared high into the heavens before disappearing behind the thick clouds blanketing the skies above the forest.

The Cult Leaderʼs expression turned grim as he confirmed he was indeed walking into a trap.

But so what?

Soon, the frequency of Adamʼs fire magic gradually decreased before finally stopping altogether. The lich cautiously advanced forward. Through his senses, he could tell that the youth had stopped moving as well, almost as though he was deliberately waiting for him to arrive.

At last, the Cult Leader and his two monsters emerged into a large clearing within the woods.

And there, beneath the slowly darkening skies, the young man silently stood waiting for them.

”I knew youʼd come.” Adamʼs voice echoed in the clearing.

Though his voice remained lively, his appearance was anything but. The upper half of his robes had been completely shredded, revealing a body covered in wounds and bruises. Blood stained nearly every inch of him.

And yet…

The Dark King stood upright.

And he was still smiling.

But the lichʼs attention wasnʼt on his sorry figure. The green flames in his sockets flickered for a moment as he noticed something.

After ensuring there were no traps in the clearing, the lich turned his attention to the youthʼs hands.

”So you possess the ability to heal yourself,” he said in an even voice, though surprise still managed to seep into his tone.

”Comes at a great cost, though,” Adam replied frankly.

Listening to his words, the lichʼs avarice grew. No matter what, he had to lay claim to the Dark Kingʼs physical body. The more he fought the youth, the more convinced he became that he was truly the perfect vessel.

Suddenly, the sky above rumbled as the clouds darkened.

Sensing the change in the atmosphere, the lich turned silent. ”What are you planning?” He asked in a cold voice. The abominations beside him snarled and got ready for battle.

”What does it matter?” Adam said with the same smile. ”The outcome will remain unchanged, right? I will perish. The Allied Forces will be slaughtered. And Tron will be sacrificed to Hell… isnʼt that what you said?”

Loud thunder rumbled above the clouds as the atmosphere gradually turned heavy and oppressive. The winds grew violent. Dark clouds churned ominously overhead while faint arcs of lightning flickered deep within the skies, illuminating the forest in brief flashes of pale lightning.

Even the surrounding mana grew unstable, as though the skies themselves were preparing to unleash catastrophe.

”Then show me, Constantine. Show me what gives you such confidence,” the lich sneered.

Adamʼs eyes narrowed. ”As you wish.”

And then, his hands turned into a blur as he rapidly weaved an extremely complex set of hand seals.

Meanwhile, the Cult Leader did not attack personally. Instead, he commanded his monsters to charge forward and disrupt the Dark King while he himself began weaving a grand defensive spell. He already had an idea regarding Adamʼs so-called trap. Alas, the youthʼs schemes were destined to fail before him. After all, he was a being who possessed thousands of years of arcane experience.

In the next few seconds, several things happened…

Just as the two monsters were about to pounce on Adam, he cast the first spell.

Rank 4 Spell: Amplify Gravity!

The abominations suddenly stumbled as the surrounding gravity violently intensified around them. Their massive bodies trembled before both monsters collapsed heavily onto the ground with loud booms.

A moment later, the Cult Leader had finally finished preparing for his spell. And then, he clasped his hands together and summoned another entity from the Underworld!

Massive rib-like bones suddenly burst out from the earth.

Gigantic skeletal arches violently rose one after another, forming a colossal cage around the clearing. The ground trembled continuously as more bones curved high into the sky. Then came the flesh. Rotting muscles and blackened tendons stretched between the enormous bones while chunks of decayed flesh rapidly spread across the structure.

Gradually, the carcass of a gigantic otherworldly creature took shape around the clearing, trapping everyone within its horrifying body.

But by the time the carcass fully closed, Adam had already vaulted into the air and completed the final hand seal for his next spell.

He pointed a finger to the sky and coldly declared:

”Come… Bird of Prey.”

The countless fire magic spells Adam had previously launched into the skies had not been meaningless attacks. They had been preparing the atmosphere all along.

The immense heat generated by his spells had altered the air currents, charging the thunderclouds gathering above the forest. Mana and lightning continuously accumulated in the dark clouds, growing denser and more unstable with every passing second.

And now, the spell was complete.

A gigantic magic circle manifested beneath the storm clouds, spanning over a hundred meters in radius across the skies above the clearing.

Brilliant arcs of lightning crawled across its intricate patterns. It looked majestic. It looked glorious. Like divine judgement descending from the heavens themselves.

For a brief moment, everything fell silent, as though the world itself was holding its breath for the destruction that was about to be unleashed.

And then…

A giant lightning eagle suddenly emerged from the massive magic circle. Crackling with ruinous thunder, the colossal creature spread its radiant wings before diving downward at terrifying speed.

And in the blink of an eye, it crashed directly into the giant carcass below.

The world was instantly engulfed in blinding light.

Then a second later…

A deafening roar exploded outward and spread across hundreds of miles.

THUNDER!!!!

As the blinding light gradually faded, the destruction wrought by the spell finally came into view.

The land within a hundred-meter radius had been completely razed to the ground, leaving behind nothing but a massive blackened crater. Beyond it, the surrounding forest burned fiercely beneath the raging storm.

And yet…

At the center of the devastated black crater, the gigantic carcass still stubbornly remained standing. Albeit barely.

The Cult Leaderʼs confidence in willingly walking into the trap had been warranted, as evidenced by the fact that he had managed to survive such an overwhelmingly powerful Rank 4 Spell. Although in order to do so, he had been forced to expend a considerable amount of mana sustaining the otherworldly carcass.

He didnʼt cancel the summons. He waited for a while to confirm that the heavens wouldnʼt send forth another bolt of judgment before finally cancelling the spell.

As the carcass of the giant receded back to the Underworld, the Cult Leaderʼs cold words echoed across the crater:

”Is that all?”

A brief silence followed. Then, he sensed faint movement behind him.

The Cult Leader, who had not lowered his guard in the slightest, instantly reacted.

He turned around with spear in hand and lunged toward the source of the disturbance. At the same time, the two abominations wildly charged forward as well.

On the other side, Adam solemnly charged toward the three of them, tyrannical mana swirling around his hands.

Although he silently cursed the fact that the lich had sensed him, it no longer mattered. He still followed through with the attack. Every spell he had cast before this point had been for this very moment. Every action, every detour, every setup had merely been laying the foundation for what came next.

Seconds stretched into eternity, and then, finally, the two sides clashed.

But strangely…

The lichʼs spear passed straight through Adamʼs chest. At the same time, the two monsters crashed into the youthʼs figure… only to phase straight through him as well.

The illusion was so lifelike that even someone like the lich had been deceived!

Furious, he instinctively swung his spear toward the only possible location where Adam could be.

He swiftly turned around, and his blade caught the unmistakable sensation of slicing through flesh.

But at that very same moment…

A pair of gigantic, tenebrous eyes engulfed his vision.

And within those dark eyes, the geometric patterns of a beautiful white flower slowly bloomed.

For a fleeting moment, the Cult Leaderʼs thoughts turned sluggish as the world around him twisted and distorted.

Then, when his vision finally cleared, he found himself in a familiar place… A place he never thought he would ever return to.

He arrived in a sunless land. Before him was a colossal tomb fashioned from a gigantic black skull crowned with twisting horns.

Deep within the skullʼs gaping maw, ominous silhouettes moved.

The moment the realization dawned upon him, the Cult Leader shuddered. Overcome by fear, he subconsciously began mumbling the same accursed words:

”The Beyond… The Beyond… The Beyond.”

And then, as though responding to his voice, from within the gaping maw…

Tentacles emerged.
