Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1770 Different Proposals

The atmosphere was tense and suffocating.

As the distance between the two sidesʼ commanders grew shorter, the pressure in the air had turned almost tangible.

Both sides comprised of powerhouses with vast mana reserves and countless years of battle experience combined. And when they finally came face to face, it was as the air itself shuddered.

It seemed as though even the space itself struggled to hold the presence of such mighty figures.

On the devilsʼ side, Volgron, Tian Di, and the Cult Leader stood at the front, while the Elders of the Inner Circle and other Mana Core-level devils stood behind them.

On the side of the Allied Forces, Lucian Acaidia was positioned at the front and center, his back straight as a spear and his expression calm, aloof, and confident.

To his right was the mysterious Hermit of Yen-Lu. And to his left, mounted atop the ferocious Blackie, sat the Ghost of Twilight, Berger.

Behind them were several Mana Core Magi from all across the world.

Sovereigns, clan leaders, hidden experts, wandering Magi, and legendary figures who normally never involved themselves in worldly affairs had all gathered here today.

For the first time in history, the mighty figures of Tron had united beneath a single banner to wage war against the Cult of Bones and the devils of Hell.

At last, the Allied Forcesʼ party reached the center of the blood-stained battlefield. The distance between the two sides was less than a dozen meters. Both sides were well within each otherʼs attack range. But both knew better than to attack.

The meeting at the center of the battlefield was more than a mere formality. It was a tradition as old as war itself.

Before hundreds of thousands marched toward slaughter, the commanders of both sides would meet face to face. There, terms could be discussed, warnings could be exchanged, and final attempts at negotiations made before the bloodbath began.

Sometimes, it was done to gauge the enemy.

Sometimes, it was done to test resolve.

And sometimes… it was done simply to look into the eyes of the people they were about to kill.

Lucian displayed a faint smile on his face as his piercing golden eyes scanned the three most powerful Magi on the enemyʼs side. Based on his judgment, the devil, the lich, and the human were some of the most powerful figures he had come across.

At last, his gaze swept past the Cult Leader and landed on an unassuming man with black hair and brown eyes that gleamed with hints of crimson madness.

”Thereʼs the little snake,” the Emperor muttered coldly.

He had not forgotten the Battle of Ravenfell. He never could.

When his gaze found the person who was responsible for the death of his father, Gerald Acadia, he subconsciously began to radiate a ruthless, killing intent.

His aura was so oppressive that even Volgron, who had seen many powerful figures in the Eternal War, couldnʼt help but be impressed.

As the target of the oppressive killing intent, Marden Benton did not flinch at all. He matched the Emperorʼs gaze and offered a polite greeting.

”I hope your journey has been comfortable, your grace.”

The Blood Lordʼs gaze then swept past Lucian and locked onto a figure standing behind him. This person radiated a far thicker aura of bloodlust and was staring daggers at him.

Marden raised a hand and smiled. ”Long time no see, Uncle Daniel.”

Daniel Ranzenbergʼs eyes turned utterly bloodshot, and his aura flared. If looks could kill, then he would have killed the traitor a thousand times over.

”Mark my words,” he spat through gritted teeth. ”Iʼll kill you no matter what it takes.”

Marden blinked.

He then pressed a hand against his chest and said politely, ”Then I wish you all the best.”

Watching the interaction between the two sides, Volgron was quite amused, and it showed on his face. He looked at Lucian and finally began.

”So youʼre the leader?” His lips curled into a calculating smile. ”Very well, then. I have a proposal for you.”

Volgron spread his arms slightly as he spoke, his tone carrying a strange charisma.

”Surrender, and I shall personally guarantee you passage to the Greater Universe. You have talent. All of you do. Remaining in this small world is a waste of your potential.”

His voice turned loud and bewitching as it echoed in the ears of the Allied Forceʼs commanders.

”Fight beneath our banner in the Eternal War. You will be granted resources beyond your imagination. Wealth, knowledge, powerful inheritances, opportunities to advance your arcane stations far beyond what this world could ever offer you.”

Then his eyes narrowed, and his voice turned cold.

”In return, you and every Magus will withdraw from this war.”

Suddenly, he recalled something and added with a faint chuckle, ”Ah, and when I say ʼMagusʼ, I mean those who have formed the mana core. These worlds in the Outer Universe possess rather… diluted power systems. To think they even consider Apprentices to be Magi.”

Berger, who had his gaze locked onto the Cult Leader all this while, suddenly shifted his attention to the devil.

”So you propose to only take the Mana Core Magi with you?” he asked in a low voice.

Volgron turned to the gnome. But before he could reply, his attention was involuntarily drawn to Blackie. The devilʼs brows furrowed ever so slightly, and he couldnʼt help but comment:

”Thatʼs an odd little pet you have there.”

Blackie bared his sharp fangs, and his dark eyes gleamed with a hunger that threatened to devour all.

In that moment, the azirai leader, Volgron, felt something primal emerge deep inside his heart. It was a warning.

A warning not to take the black wolf lightly.

Volgron made a mental note to be cautious of the strange black wolf and the master it served. He turned to the gnome, taking him much more seriously than before, and answered.

”We have no use for Apprentices,” he said. ”So, yes. Only Mana Core Magi will be granted passage to the Greater Universe.”

”Then what about the rest of the people on this battlefield?” the Hermit spoke up. ”The so-called Apprentices.”

Volgron turned to the hooded figure. He believed the cowl to be enchanted with magic, for even he could not see through the shadows and study the Hermitʼs face.

The devilʼs lips curled into a crooked little smirk, and he said, ”Isnʼt it obvious?”

A much more tense and heavy silence descended upon the two parties.

Volgronʼs proposal was clear: abandon the others, abandon this world, and journey to the Greater Universe with him.

But after coming so far, after sacrificing so much, could the commanders of the Allied Forces truly abandon everything?

A soft chuckle suddenly echoed.

Everyone turned to the source, and they saw Lucian Acadia shaking his head slightly in amusement.

”Funny, is it?” Volgron grinned from ear to ear.

Lucianʼs golden eyes found the devilʼs. His lips parted, and he said, ”I have a proposal for you as well.”

”Letʼs hear it.” Volgron gestured, amused.

The Proud Sun raised his chin, his golden eyes filled with contempt. He then said in a cold voice:

”Surrender, and I shall grant you a swift, painless death.”
