Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1507  Audience of One

The mysterious puppy had left after devouring several pounds of meat.

Marlow was left alone in his bedroom, thinking about the strange turn of events. He lay on his bed, gazing at the ceiling with a light frown on his face, clutching Annaʼs letter.

Several thoughts swirled inside his mind, none of which he had the answers to.

Who was the black puppy?

Where was Anna?

How did she know about his son, Marcus?

How did she know their father had advanced to the legendary Mana Core Rank?

The more Marlow thought about these things, the more questions popped up inside his head. Answers were nowhere on the horizon. Not even a hint of them.

Perhaps… someone she knows visited Amberfall? He wondered, trying to connect the dots.

And maybe thatʼs how she learned of Fatherʼs advancement and Marcus. Thatʼs the only thing I can think of. But if that is the case, then who is this person?

They must be someone close or influential to know about such matters. The information about the Princeʼs son was public. However, the matter of Maximillian advancing to the Mana Core Rank wasnʼt known to the masses. Only close friends and family members, as well as the upper echelons of the Union, were privy to it.

That was why Marlow assumed that it had to be someone influential.

But who could it be? He thought.

Do I know them?

His thoughts drifted to the little puppy who had delivered the message. Marlow didnʼt know for certain, but he had this vague feeling somewhere in the corner of his heart.

That beast…

The Prince subconsciously gulped.

Heʼs likely at the Mana Core Rank!

Such an entity is delivering messages for Anna? And he claims to be her acquaintance? Just what the hell has she been up to?

He couldnʼt help but chuckle nervously.

To think that his sister has been spending time in the company of such powerful beings…

And who is Berger? He mused.

From the beastʼs words, he sounds like an elderly figure to her. So this person… could he also be a Mana Core Magus?

And he prevented Anna from coming to Europa because there were dangers lurking in the dark…

This was the part that deeply bothered Marlow.

What are these dangers the beast was referring to?

He didnʼt know. Blackie never told him anything. However, the beast did reassure him that Anna was in a safe place at the moment and that nothing could harm her.

Marlow inhaled deeply, then exhaled a heavy sigh.

I can only take comfort in knowing sheʼs safe for the moment…

As his childhood memories of the time he spent with Anna surfaced in his mind, the Prince slowly drifted off to slumberland.

Little did he know, the following day would bring a big surprise.

Lebu worked late into the night.

He reviewed reports and coordinated patrols across the city. When he wasnʼt away on missions, his duties were tied directly to Springdaleʼs security, working alongside the cityʼs officials to address threats before they surfaced.

The governing body of Springdale and the Twilight Brotherhood maintained a close working relationship on all matters of security.

After all, Springdale was the heart of the Sovereign Union, and the Brotherhood operated as its hidden sponsor, ensuring stability from the shadows.

Ever since word spread that Berger had returned to the organization and reclaimed his rightful seat on the Council of Dawn, the Preservationists felt as though they had been given a second wind.

Along with the renewed morale came a mountain of work. Gone were those days when the Preservationists remained in the background, sidelined and looked down upon. It was time to act, and to do so proactively.

Just the other day, Berger had already officially joined the organization, and with his return, the Preservationistsʼ workload had naturally increased. Even so, none of them complained. They were more than happy to be back on the proverbial map.

Lebu was stationed at a safehouse just two buildings away from the inn where an eccentric new visitor had taken up residence.

His orders were simple: keep the man under quiet observation until his identity could be properly verified.

It wasnʼt a glamorous assignment, but Lebu didnʼt underestimate it. After all, this person he was observing was a Mana Vortex Magus.

Additionally, with the Sovereign Conclave approaching and tensions running high, even the smallest anomaly warranted caution.

He wasnʼt the only Brotherhood agent keeping watch. There were three other — all at the Mana Liquefaction Rank — stationed at strategic locations around the inn.

The room Lebu occupied was dark. He had purposely made it that way. He sat on a stool right by the window, his outline hidden behind the curtains. He had a clear line of sight to the balcony attached to his targetʼs room.

It was close to midnight, and his shift didnʼt end until sunrise. There was plenty of time to wait, to watch, and to remain alert.

As he kept his eyes on the faintly illuminated window across the street, his thoughts drifted back to the reports he had reviewed earlier — reports about his target.

An old man at the Mana Vortex Rank and still acting that way, he thought as he shook his head.

Have some class, man!

The reports stated that the target claimed to be a travel writer, and that at least on the surface, the claim checked out. His books appeared legit, and the details within them were not only consistent but unusually thorough.

Despite Lebuʼs misgivings about the man, he couldnʼt help but actually feel a little admired by him. It took a lot of guts to travel to all the dangerous places that his target had.

To think he journeyed through not just Mabi, but also Yen-Lu…

Lebu thought to himself, his gaze still glued to the illuminated window.

If I werenʼt a spy for the Brotherhood, perhaps I, too, would have traveled the world. Although I have traveled across Europa, thatʼs nothing compared to this man.

The next moment, he frowned.

The door to the balcony suddenly opened, and his target stepped outside with a wine cup in hand.

Lebu straightened involuntarily, his focus quickly sharpening as he reached for the communication disk, ready to report if the man showed the slightest sign of suspicion behaivor.

But what his target did next caused Lebuʼs eyes to turn wide.

Across the street, Nilremʼs lips slowly curled into a smile.

He turned his head toward the darkened room two buildings away from him, his gaze landing on the familiar silhouette hiding behind the curtains.

Then he lifted his wine cup slightly, as if acknowledging the audience of one.

Dear Magus Potts, he thought to himself.

You shall be one of the main characters in my next play…
