Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 777: Soul Puppetry

A vile and ancient form of magic, created by the insidious Devil of Secrets, Soul Puppetry allowed a caster to implant arcane parasites into their targetʼs soul, threading invisible cords through their thoughts, emotions, and will.

The victim often remained unaware, believing every action was their own, until it was too late.

Or, in other cases, the soul body of the victim was completely replaced by the parasite, allowing the caster to control them from afar.

Just thinking about what the Devil of Secrets had done in his life to create such a form of magic, caused Adamʼs back to be drenched in a layer of cold sweat.

He had seen many things in the devilʼs memories, most of them making him almost want to vomit.

Adam had seen the Devil of Secrets invading countless planets, slauthering all of its residents, and collecting their souls to experiment on his magic.

Soul Puppetry was the arcane art formed after ruthlessly murdering billions of lives and going through trial and error for tens of thousands of years!

But now… the fruits of the devilʼs labors had fallen right into Adamʼs lap.

However, despite having access to the entirety of Soul Puppetry, it didnʼt mean that Adam could outright use it.

This was an extremely high-level magic, and Adam was a mere Mana Vortex Rank Magus.

In Tron, he may be considered a powerhouse, but in the grand schemes of the Magus Universe, he was nothing but one of countless pebbles at the bottom of the river.

Recalling all the memories pertaining to Soul Puppetry, Adam couldnʼt help but marvel at its ingenuity.

He could now understand why the Devil of Secrets was overcome by greed when he learned about what the Eternal Soul Lotus was truly capable of.

The devilʼs greed was so deep that he even thought of betraying one of the most powerful existences in the Nine Hells of Inferno, the Ruler of the Fifth Layer of Hell!

Adamʼs eyes flashed with a brilliant light and he couldnʼt help but think, Itʼs almost as if Soul Puppetry was made for the wielder of the white lotus!

This superior arcane art consisted of splitting a part of the casterʼs soul, then converting the split soul into a parasite through a very lengthy and holistic process, and finally having the soul parasite infest the spirit sea of the target.

From there on, the caster could choose to have the soul parasites operate in one of two ways.

First, it could subtly influence the target to act in ways that would be beneficial to the caster.

This method was a subtle form of manipulation where the victims would end up carrying out tasks without even knowing theyʼre no longer free.

Second, the soul parasite would take a much more ruthless approach by infiltrating the targetʼs spirit sea, devouring its soul body, and permanently replacing it.

This magic art focused on the School of Enchantment and the School of Summoning.

But there was one thing that Adam realized. The biggest and most critical flaw of the Soul Puppetry directly affected the caster.

The act of splitting oneʼs soul was far more dangerous and far more painful than splitting oneʼs flesh!

Furthermore, eight out of ten times, the caster would have no way of healing their soul.

Out of the remaining two times, one could be used to consume a magical ingredient that could heal their soul but even then the damage done could never be fully repaired.

The last option was to consume othersʼ souls to replenish their own—an act that the devils of Hells were known to do.

That is why only a resident of the Nine Hells of Inferno could create such a secretive and devious form of magic.

But herein lay the problem. Consuming othersʼ souls was highly detrimental as it could change the consumerʼs personality and individuality, leading them down a path of madness from which there was absolutely no return.

Devils, on the other hand, were born with a unique physiology that negated some of the harmful effects of consuming othersʼ souls.

They were cold, apathetic, and vicious creatures, to begin with. For power, they would do anything, as the primary personality trait for any devil was ambition!

So it didnʼt matter to them how many tens or hundreds or thousands of souls they consumed. Firstly, it barely affected their already twisted and vindictive nature, and secondly, it served as a means to an end.

But with the Eternal Soul Lotus, the main flaw of Soul Puppetry could be mended.

This was the reason why the Devil of Secrets was so hellbent on acquiring this legendary artifact.

Just thinking of the infinite possibilities that Adam had now access to with the white lotus and Soul Puppetry in his possession, he couldnʼt help but loudly gulp.

”Four bottles of Caldera for you, My Lord~” Right at that moment, a curvy, middle-aged woman approached the youth with a tray of wine gourds.

She placed the gourds on the table and deeply looked at Adam. She could tell that this person was a man of means just by looking at his clothes and appearance.

But seeing that Adam hadnʼt even cast a glance at her, she pursed her lips and walked away with a harrumph.

Meanwhile, Adam gazed at the notes he had jotted down on the parchment paper with narrowed eyes.

With a simple thought, the paper lit up in flames and burnt to ashes within a moment.

He absentmindedly uncorked the gourd and poured the wine into the flat cup.

But there is another reason why the Devil of Secrets got his name, he thought as he brought the cup to his mouth and took a light sip.

Soul Puppetry was one aspect, but the main reason why he was even able to carry out this magic was because of another form of magic.

This form of magic wasnʼt something he created, but something that he found in one of the inheritances left behing in a primal ruin by an ancient powerful Magus.

This magic had no name because it was… a secret.

The very essence of this form of magic revolved around secrecy and concealment.

Applying this magic to other types of magic can help conceal it from prying eyes.

Moroever, this form of magic could not only be used on other types of magic but also on tangible things.

Such a fascinating form of magic!

Adamʼs eyes glowed with a brilliant light and he thought, However…

This is still something that I cannot use at my current strength. But at the very least, I can use my spiritual energy and utilize an embryonic form of Soul Puppetry.

Splitting my soul to form parasites is not something that I can afford to do right now. Despite possessing the white lotus, it would still take a considerable amount of time for my soul to completely heal.

The youth was immensely grateful for having received such an advanced form of magic from the white lotus.

He turned towards the window and gazed at the twin moons. He took another sip from the wine cup and thought with narrowed eyes.

When the city falls asleep later tonight…

I shall go and investigate the underground tunnel with my newfound knowledge.

This time, Iʼll uncover whatever it is the Cult of Bones is hiding!
