Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 771: Research Status

The Clover Academyʼs branch in Hannes City, unlike their main campus in Moon City, consisted of only one large four-story building.

All operations were carried out from within this building, and this was also the place where the students were taught. Needless to say, it was a humongous building.

On the top floor that served as office spaces for the professors, Rank 2 Magus, Elorywn Thorton, slowly walked towards his private office in the southwest corner of the floor.

He was a professor specializing in the School of Invocation. Moreover, he was also the Agent of the Twilight Brotherhood tasked with finding out any intel about the underground tunnel that the Clover Academy was researching.

Opening the door to his private office, he entered with a relaxed smile on his face. He had already finished teaching his students and had the rest of the day off.

Thinking of his several wives waiting for him in his manor in the Western District, his smile couldnʼt help but turn wider.

”Ah, life is good,” he muttered under his breath as he took his seat on the high-back leather chair.

It had been over a decade since he had been stationed here by the Brotherhood. Before this, he was working as an undercover spy for an organization that had been practicing dark magic and using the common folks of the lands as its test subjects.

Needless to say, compared to his previous work, his work now as a professor at Clover Academy was like the difference between the mud and the clouds.

When he was not teaching the kids at the academy, he would carry out research in the underground tunnel. And when he was not doing that, he would be having fun with his wives in the city.

”Good, good, life is good,” the man happily chuckled as he grasped the feather quill and began signing the documents on his table.

”Having a good time, are we?”

Suddenly, out of nowehere, an emotionless voice echoed inside the office room, catching Elorywn by surprise.

His hands paused and a deep frown formed on his face. Next, his eyes narrowed and he slowly raised his head.

The man knew that the intruder had some skills, or else he would have been able to notice the personʼs presence when he entered.

However, Elorywn didnʼt think that this was something that he couldnʼt handle.

After all, he was a Mana Liquefaction Magus, and even the ruler of the city, who was also the strongest Magus in the city, was the same rank as him.

Elorywnʼs gaze landed on a young man with a thick beard on his face. He was sitting on a couch in one corner of the office. He wore dark robes and a dark pointy hat, its brim casting a shadow on his face.

The young man had his legs crossed in a very nonchalant manner, treating this place as if it belonged to him. He had clasped his hands and interlocked his fingers, staring at Elorywn in a bored manner.

”May I ask, who you are?” Elorywn muttered cautiously.

Something about the young manʼs calm demeanor irked him. It was as if nothing in this world could bother him. Moreover, what really caused him to feel alarmed was the fact he couldnʼt sense the manʼs aura at all.

Usually, he could tell if a person was a Magus or a mortal, but with him... nothing.

Adam curiously glanced at the portly middle-aged man with burgundy hair and a trimmed mustace and beard. He wore luxurious clothes and had gold rings adorned on each of his fingers. He even wore a necklace studded with a magical gem around his collar.

So flashy, he thought in amusement.

”So you were the one who sent me the letter, eh?” He asked.

”The letter?” Elorywn frowned. There were several letters he had sent to several people in the past few years.

”Youʼre not being very specific—” he began, but his words got caught in his throat when Adam interrupted him.

”In twilight, we find truth,” said the raven-haired youth with a calm and steady tone.

Elorywnʼs eyes gradually widened. This time he carefully observed the youth before him.

Dark robes, dark pointy hat, dark eyes… He also claimed that I sent him the letter. Could he be?!

The portly man hurriedly got to his feet. He touched his forehead with his right hand index and middle fingers, then he lowered them, drawing an arc, and placing them above his chest.

”In shadows, we seek wisdom!”

”Hmm.” Adam hummed with his eyes closed, leaning back on the couch. ”Elorywn Thorton, Agent of the Brotherhood, we finally meet.”

Elorywnʼs heartbeat started to rapidly speed up. He walked around his table and nervously approached the raven-haired youth.

”M-My Lord…” He loudly gulped. ”Are you… the Dark King?”

Adam silently nodded.

Hearing his confirmation, Elorywn got down on one knee and placed his hand on his chest. He deferentially lowered his head and spoke with utmost respect, ”My Lord, it is an honor to meet you!”

Everyone in the Twilight Brotherhood, from the lowest of Acolytes to the Council of Dawn overseeing everything from the top, was familiar with the legends of Adam Constantine.

He went by many names - Black Vengeance, the Tyrant, and most recently… the Dark King!

This man was the youngest person in the world to advance to the grand station of Mana Vortex Rank. Even labeling the word ʼgeniusʼ was doing him an injustice.

His battle prowess was already considered to be at the peak of the Mana Vortex Rank despite having only recently advanced, and he was said to command an army of a thousand serpents.

So when Elorywn finally came face to face with this man, he couldnʼt help but feel excited, fearful, respect, and immense admiration.

”Rise,” Adam said calmly, his eyes still closed.

”Yes, my lord!” Elorywn rose to his feet, his back straighter than an arrow. He didnʼt dare to speak unless he was spoken to. He didnʼt even dare to breathe.

Adam slowly opened his eyes, looking at the portly man standing before him. His lips parted and he asked coolly, ”What is the status of the research done in the underground tunnel?”

Elorywn thought for a few moments before respectfully answering, ”My Lord, there still havenʼt been any breakthroughs in our research.

”After studying the tunnel as well as the vampireʼs lair, we have only been able to learn about superficial knowledge on shadow magic and summoning magic.”

Adamʼs eyes narrowed. ”And youʼve found nothing about Shadowmuir, yes?”

”Correct, my lord.”

”Not even inside that black-and-white tunnel?” Adam pressed, the weight in his heart growing by the moment.

”Nothing, my lord.” Elorywn sincerely said, ”We just know that the tunnel leads to Shadowmuir. Apart from that, we havenʼt found any conclusive evidence.”

Itʼs just like the situation in Blackshore, Adam thought to himself, his expression turning grave.

Someone has cast a high-level enchantment spell. This spell… leads people to believe something when thereʼs no evidence supporting it.

Itʼs that same bizarre feeling! The truth stares you in the eye, yet you are unable to discern it!

Hannes City and Blackshore…

The two are definitely connected!
