A Chemist's Interstellar Saga

Chapter 78: A Spy
Chapter 78: A Spy

It was getting late.

Arix checked the time on the opticomputer. It was almost 6 PM. Thinking about catching the excitement on the interstellarnet later, Arix said goodbye to Cantet and his sister.

Back at her temporary residence, Arix released Cupid and the others from her psychic world. Arix took a shower first. Then she lay back on the bed with the three little ones, watching the holographic live stream projected by the opticomputer.

At this moment, the Alliance’s official live stream was on, but it hadn’t started yet. In the live stream room, besides the background wall with the Alliance’s national emblem, there was only a simple wooden table with five potions of various colors on it. There were no introductions around the potions.

The audience in the live stream could only guess. Then they posted all kinds of strange ideas on the public screen.

SnooLover42: ”I suspect these are gene upgrade potions. They’ve been researching this for decades, so it’s about time.”

CosmicWanderer: ”Even if the gene upgrade potion is out, I wouldn’t use it. Novelists have written about meddling with human genes, causing people to develop mental disorders as adults. Natural babies are the best.”

MemeMachine3000: ”You’ve read too many novels. Why not say the potion will turn you into a zombie immediately?”

EightBalls: ”Exactly. This is an official account. They wouldn’t dare to show the potions if they weren’t safe.”

...

Arix watched the heated discussion on the public screen and posted a message.

MechaMonster: ”Could it be a Psychic Healer?”

As soon as Arix said this, the public screen went silent for a moment. Then it exploded with messages.

DeepSpaceNineFan: ”I didn’t want to join the conversation, but you guys are getting too ridiculous. A Psychic Healer? Everyone knows terminal psychic power diseases can’t be cured, at least not by potions.”

SnooLover42: ”MechaMonster, I thought I had a wild imagination, but you beat me. Respect.”

MemeMachine3000: ”Even my grandfather, who’s close to passing away, asked if a Psychic Healer was available today.”

CosmicWanderer: ”It’s never coming out. If it does, I’ll pee standing on my head.”

MechaMonster: ”I took a screenshot. Keep your word.”

CosmicWanderer: ”The Alliance can never make it!!”

Arix raised an eyebrow, feeling something was off, and sent another message.

MechaMonster: ”Galactic beans ground fine and fair—”

This sentence was from a well-known Alliance advertisement. Almost every citizen could finish it with, ”A cosmic espresso fills the air.”

Anyone who couldn’t complete the sentence would have a very suspicious identity.

CosmicWanderer: ”What beans? Are you saying the potion bottles have beans?”

The chat went silent again for a moment. Then the viewers in the live stream became even more excited.

SnooLover42: ”Caught a little spy. I’ve already notified the police. You’re welcome.”

hail_our_Alliance: ”Can’t even finish our Alliance’s slogan. Definitely a spy.”

Olivetree: ”So quiet for so long. Feeling guilty?”

...

Meanwhile, the top hacker spy, known as CosmicWanderer, who had been lurking in the Alliance for a long time, was arrested by the police on charges of espionage.

He still couldn’t accept the fact that he had been exposed as he struggled and denied, ”You’ve got the wrong person! I’m not a spy!”

The police officer sneered, ”Galactic beans ground fine and fair—”

”What...?” CosmicWanderer was utterly confused.

”You don’t even know this? And you dare claim you’re from the Alliance? Reflect on this in prison.” Seeing the criminal unable to respond, the interstellar police officer spoke coldly, more convinced of his guilt.

”You have no evidence. Why are you arresting me? I’ll sue you,” CosmicWanderer glared at the police officer, threateningly.

”Huh! Do you think we’d arrest you without evidence?” The interstellar police officer laughed mockingly.

He then opened the opticomputer and displayed photos of the secret documents that CosmicWanderer had transmitted outside the Alliance.

CosmicWanderer’s eyes trembled as he looked at the evidence. Finally, he lowered his head, silent, allowing the police to take him away.

Back in the live stream room, after the spy was arrested, the police posted an official announcement.

CosmicWanderer was a spy, and he had been arrested and put in custody.

This news left Arix stunned. She had only felt a bit suspicious, never expecting to accidentally catch a real spy.

At that moment, Arix’s feelings matched her comment on the screen.

MechaMonster: ”....”

SnooLover42: ”Amazing, we really caught a spy.”

friedinsectoid: ”For some reason, I feel sorry for him

hail_our_Alliance: ”You sympathize with the spy? I think I have reason to doubt you now. So please complete my sentence: Galactic beans ground fine and fair—?”

friedinsectoid: ”A cosmic espresso fills the air.”

hail_our_Alliance: ”Suspicion canceled, confirmed you’re an ally!”

...

Arix watched the live stream’s sudden spy-hunting craze, feeling a bit awkward. She seemed to have set the stream’s tone off course.

Fortunately, it was finally 7 PM. In the live stream, two people in white lab coats and five patients in hospital gowns appeared.

Arix recognized the two in white lab coats; they were from the Fifth Legion research base. The older one was called Noland, and the younger one was Hinddle.

”Hello everyone, welcome to the official channel of the Alliance. Today, I bring you great news: the Psychic Healer has finally been successfully developed!!” Noland said excitedly, looking directly at the live stream camera.

The live stream audience went wild, expressing disbelief, but since it was an official broadcast, the public chat fell silent.

Some viewers, once they processed the news, immediately rushed to call their family and friends to watch the live stream together. Others started sobbing uncontrollably, crying for themselves and for their friends and family.

There were also spies from other countries among the viewers, who, upon hearing the news, real or not, immediately reported it back to their own countries.

The entire Alliance—no, the entire galaxy... All the countries, large and small, now focused all their attention on the Alliance. They were eager to see how the Alliance had addressed the difficult that had been haunting this world for thousands of years.
