A Chemist's Interstellar Saga

Chapter 58: The Heir
Chapter 58: The Heir

”I don’t know much, but there was one thing that really stirred things up between the Lasair and the Calix family,” Drexel said with a smirk, remembering the chaos.

”It sounds like fun, tell me more,” Arix said, excited to hear the gossip.

Drexel didn’t hold back, laughing as he recalled, ”It all started ten years ago when Zephyr was chosen as the heir to the Calix family. The head of the Calix family was okay with it, but his wife always saw Zephyr as a thorn in her side, thinking he stole her own son’s place.”

”Poor Zephyr, he must have been targeted a lot,” Arix sympathized with Zephyr for a moment, likening it to an interstellar family drama.

Drexel suddenly chuckled, then ruffled his silly little sister’s hair, saying, ”You’re underestimating Zephyr. Whenever the lady dared to bother him, he would turn around and trouble her son. Even if it was an accident, Zephyr managed to pin it on her son.”

”Hah, good job, Zephyr,” Arix gave a thumbs up, applauding Zephyr. ”Keep going, Drexel, I feel like it’s going to get even more interesting.”

”Later, the lady thought, why not go all out? She hired interstellar mercenaries through the black market, pretending to be space pirates to bomb the spaceship that Zephyr was on. Unfortunately, Elio was also on that ship, which really angered the Lasairs. You know, Lasair folks are not to be messed with. They immediately confronted the Calix family. If not for the leaders of the other three major families mediating on the spot, the two families might have developed a vendetta,” Drexel explained, relieved for the Calix family.

”That lady must have ended up in misery,” Arix wondered.

Drexel scoffed mockingly, ”More than misery, I heard that overnight, her maternal family went from second-rate to bottom-tier, all because they declared they’d cut ties with her right away. And the lady herself, the main culprit, was exiled to a borderline planet. Even the pleas from the patriarch couldn’t save her.”

Drexel knew so much because the incident had been huge, causing even the Kering family to tighten up their household to prevent someone like her from emerging.

”How did Zephyr and the others get rescued then? With the explosion’s power, if they were just kids at the time, the chances of surviving wouldn’t have been high,” Arix asked.

”It was lucky for Zephyr; he happened to be with Elio, the Lasairs’ only son. Elio, god bless him, had many treasures. Not just a spaceship explosion, even a mecha explosion couldn’t have killed him,” Drexel explained.

Anyway, those two boys were later found on a primitive planet, and after that, Elio’s haughty attitude changed a lot, probably because the week he was missing really took a toll on him,” Drexel laughed without any sympathy.

”Ah, typical big families dramas. Isn’t it?” Arix remarked after hearing the story.

Drexel laughed at Arix’s serious demeanor and patted her head affectionately, ”Don’t forget, you’re also from a big family. Alright, we’ve reached the dormitory. Go get some rest after you get back. Try to do well in tomorrow’s competition. You know, you’re the first freshman in our class to get a military rank. It would be embarrassing if you rank poorly.”

”Whatever, you’re supposed to be the heir of the Kering family. If you don’t rank higher than your little sister, I’ll see who’s embarrassed,” Arix replied with a glare at Drexel.

”Hey, you little rascal, let’s make a bet. If I rank higher than you, you increase my share of the potion shop’s dividends by 5%,” Drexel challenged with a raised eyebrow.

”Huh, let’s do it. If you lose, I get your opticomputer during training,” Arix laughed coldly.

”Deal,” Drexel said. His fighting spirit was rising. He looked at Arix as though a majestic tiger looked down at a naughty younger sibling.

”No problem,” Arix’s competitiveness was also ignited. Vita, Sophia, and Cupid appeared behind her.

Vita still looked kind but now carried an vibe of seriousness, as if to say, ’see who dares to mess with my kids.’ Sophia remained dignified, her entire Psychic Incarnation radiating confidence. Cupid, excited, was shaking his chubby body, eager to fight.

An invisible cloud of tension rose between Arix and Drexel. After a standoff, they both snorted in unison and returned to their dorms.

After Arix entered the building, Drexel paused, as if talking to himself, ”Sheer, those three were Arix’s Psychic Incarnations, right?”

The white tiger in Drexel’s psychic world nodded its majestic head, and then a young voice rang out in Drexel’s psychic world, ”Yes, they have awakened, which means your sister’s physical power is about to break through to the Subgiant Class. Otherwise, they would still be forced to sleep in Arix’s psychic world due to the limitations of her physical power.”

Drexel smiled, relieved as if a weight had been lifted from his heart, ”That’s good, I can rest easy now.”

Sheer seemed to have recalled something. He joked, ”Now that your sister’s Psychic Incarnations have finally awakened, it means she could also qualify to inherit the Kering family. That might shake up your position as the heir.”

Drexel laughed affectionately yet helplessly, ”You know, I’ve never really cared about that. I just don’t want my sister to be bound by the family obligations either. It’s a pity that our big brother hasn’t awakened his Psychic Incarnation; otherwise, I’d be more than glad to pass that burden to him.”

”Do you think your brother knows you’re trying to set him up?” Sheer rolled his eyes.

”He wouldn’t mind,” Drexel replied with a mischievous grin. Then he continued on his way to his dorm.

In each generation of the five noble families, there would be one person naturally awakening their Psychic Incarnation when they were born.

Only those who had awakened their Psychic Incarnation could control the ultimate mechas passed down through their families.

These individuals would be recognized by the five noble families as the heirs.
