Earth's Greatest Magus

Chapter 2476: Trouble

Vernon, Patriarch of the Amber Fall clan, stood confidently at the head of a force of three dozen magus, his cosmic energy radiating a palpable aura of menace. Flanking him were two Grand Magus experts—one was a skinny man with round glasses, his frail frame giving him an almost scholarly appearance, while the other was short and stout, his thick beard and sturdy build reminiscent of a dwarf. Neither of them bothered to hide their hostile intent, their gazes fixed on Emery with predatory focus.

”Is this really the one weʼre supposed to kill?” the short Grand Magus scoffed, scratching his beard in confusion. ”A mere Magus? This hardly seems worth our time!”

Vernonʼs expression remained cold and resolute as he spoke, his voice sharp as a blade. ”Stick to the plan. Kill this one first. Then weʼll deal with the old man. Weʼll blame his death on his sickness, or better yet, pin it on him—this suspicious beastman!”

The skinny Grand Magus adjusted his glasses briefly before slipping them into his robe pocket. His lifeless, pupil-less eyes stared into Emery with an eerie stillness. ”I donʼt care who Iʼm killing, Vernon… as long as you pay me what you promised.”

Without another word, the skinny Grand Magus unleashed a devastating soul attack. The ethereal force crashed into Emeryʼs mind like a tidal wave, clouding his thoughts and locking his body in place. Emery froze, his eyes losing focus as the invisible attack tangled with his spirit.

”HAHAHA!” The short Grand Magus roared with laughter as he surged forward, his stubby legs carrying him with surprising speed. ”Too easy! Like taking candy from a child!”

The Azure cloud forces, led by the dark elf captain, rushed to intercept him. However, they were effortlessly thrown back by the sheer brute strength of the stout Grand Magus.

”Now you die!”

But before his strike could land, a figure shot through the air, moving with blinding speed. A regal-looking, elderly Grand Magus appeared between Emery and the dwarf-like attacker, his presence radiating authority and raw, unyielding power.

CRACK!

The elderly Grand Magus struck the short attacker with a resounding slap. The force of the blow sent the stout Grand Magus skidding backward, his feet carving deep trenches in the ground before he finally came to a halt. His face was twisted in shock and indignation, a fiery red handprint glaring across his cheek.

”OLD BASTARD! SNEAK ATTACK ME LIKE THAT!?!” the short Grand Magus bellowed, clutching his bruised face.

The elderly figure hovered in place, his cosmic aura shimmering like a divine shield, and silent tension fell over the courtyard as all eyes turned to the newcomer.

He was no other than Grand Magus Stolts, the eccentric who had sworn to shield Emery. Despite the hostile aura radiating from Vernon and his allies, Stolts stood casually in the middle of the courtyard, one hand lazily picking at his ear as if the entire confrontation bored him.

”Tsk tsk… Donʼt make trouble here, will you?” Stolts said, his raspy voice carrying a faint note of mockery. ”Why donʼt you just turn around and leave? Iʼm really not in the mood for fighting today.”

Vernonʼs face twisted in irritation, his cosmic energy flaring slightly as he stepped forward. ”It seems the Azure Clan has resorted to hiring a bodyguard…” He chuckled darkly, his lips curling into a smug grin. ”How far the mighty Azure Clan has fallen, to rely on an… old beggar… like him.”

Stolts heaved an exaggerated sigh, shaking his head with theatrical disappointment. ”Ah, insults already? Well, youʼd better give it your all. Because if you lose to this ʼold beggar,ʼ word will spread fast, and oh, what a shame!.”

The short Grand Magus, still rubbing the red mark on his face from Stoltsʼ earlier slap, visibly hesitated. His previous confidence had wavered, and now he glanced nervously between Stolts and Vernon.

”Brother Vernon…” the short Grand Magus said cautiously. ”This old man is an expert. We should… we should attack together!”

But Vernon raised his hand to halt him, his sharp eyes locked on Stolts. ”Patience…” Vernon muttered. ”Weʼll wait until Yurek finishes turning that beastman into a drooling idiot. Then weʼll strike together and crush this so-called bodyguard in one fell swoop.”

The skinny Grand Magus Yurek, who had been focusing entirely on his soul attack against Emery, remained silent as sweat beaded on his pale forehead. His pupil-less eyes gleamed with determination as he tightened his grip on Emeryʼs mind.

Yet… neither side had emerged victorious. Confusion began to cloud the faces of both Vernon and the short Grand Magus.

”Whatʼs going on?! How is this possible?!” Vernon barked, his voice sharp with frustration.

From his spot in the courtyard, Grand Magus Stolts let out an amused chuckle, his arms lazily folded across his chest.

”Your friend are too confident... Challenging an Alchemist Master to a soul battle?”

The short Grand Magusʼ eyes went wide in disbelief. ”What?! That beastman is an Alchemist Master?!”

Alchemy Masters, renowned for their craft, often possessed immense soul power, a necessary foundation for concocting high-tier potions and elixirs. They had gravely underestimated Emery.

Stolts offered no reply, his smirk widening as he turned his gaze back to Emery.

In that instant, Emeryʼs body began to radiate with a dazzling array of lights—the glow of his [Prism of Light]. The divine technique surged with power, enhancing Emeryʼs soul strength to an overwhelming degree. ℟ἈƝồ𐌱Ê𝘚

The oppressive grip of Yurekʼs soul attack shattered in an instant. Not only did Emery block the assault, but he also regained full control of his body. At the same moment, Yurek staggered backward, clutching his head as blood poured from his mouth.

”Hah! Youʼve embarrassed us, Yurek!” the short Grand Magus snarled, his fists clenching with anger.

The initial attack had failed spectacularly—one stopped by an ʼold beggarʼ and another broken by what they had dismissed as a ʼyoung beastman.ʼ

Their faces contorted with rage, and without wasting another moment, the trio began preparing their strongest attacks.
