Earth's Greatest Magus

Chapter 2394: Order

Emeryʼs summons brought him not to the Magus Alliance command center, but to the Northern watchtower—an ominous structure overlooking the most vulnerable part of the citadelʼs defenses. Here, he was to meet one of the high-ranking grand magus responsible for directing the cityʼs defense operations.

From the moment Emery entered the watchtowerʼs dimly lit corridors, he couldnʼt help but suspect that something unpleasant was about to unfold.

Major Zoller sat at a heavy wooden desk cluttered with reports, his posture exuded authority. His sharp blue eyes were fixed on Emery as he entered, and the air between them instantly thickened.

”Lieutenant Emery... Are you going somewhere? Donʼt you know the city needs every available hand to defend its walls?”

The blunt remark and its condescending tone struck Emery immediately. However, Emery maintained his composure, carefully explaining his temporary military role and the academy examination that had brought him and his acolytes here. Emery told the major about his plan to return along with his acolytes back to the space station.

But Major Zollerʼs demeanor did not soften in the slightest. Instead, his gaze narrowed, and his tone grew colder, almost dismissive. ”Youʼre in a combat zone, Lieutenant,” the major sneered ”Whatever the academy expects from you doesnʼt concern me. What concerns me is keeping this city from falling.”

Before Emery could respond, the major delivered his decision, stripping away any semblance of a choice. He assigned Emery and his acolytes to a post along the Northern wall. This was no ordinary position; it was among the most dangerous posiiton, a location where even seasoned soldiers struggled to defend.

As Emery left the Majorʼs office, a notification appeared:

[Defend the Citadel Wall]

Emery could almost feel the weight of the responsibility settling onto his shoulders. His acolytes had received the same notification, and he could hear the mixed reactions echoing around the room.

While most of the acolytes were excited at the prospect of real combat experience, the mood was different with Klea. She remained silent, filled with concern.

Even Magus Sirri appeared to be deeply worried.

”Instructor Emery, Did you request this mission? This is not recommended for them”

Emery understood where Sirri was coming from reflecting on his actions on the previous assignment. What troubled Emery more was the way the Major had handled the situation—his dismissive attitude and the way he had placed them in this perilous position without consideration.

Something didnʼt sit right with him, and he suspected that the Major had ulterior motives.

It didnʼt take long for VIA to uncover the connection: the fact that Major Zoller had close ties with the Nephilim faction. Emeryʼs jaw clenched in irritation. He could feel the anger building within him, but there was little he could do about it. The mission had been assigned, and abandoning it wasnʼt an option.

With a heavy sigh, Emery turned back to his acolytes ”We only have half a day to prepare before your mission starts,” Emery announced ”Letʼs get ready.”

”Yes, master!”

With Kleaʼs guidance, the acolytes drilled in formations designed for wall defense, learning how to support one another in rotations and to be prepared for the unpredictability of battle. Meanwhile, Emery worked tirelessly to supply them with [Reviving Pill], his special creation that held the potential to pull anyone below the Magus realm from the brink of death.

The 50 acolytes, eager yet visibly nervous, were ready to take their positions along the Northern Wall. This post was one of the ten, each with a 12-hour rotation. The air was thick with the weight of the upcoming battle. However, due to the recent siege, the city had enjoyed a brief respite.

For the first two days, there had been no major attacks. The enemy seemed to be waiting, perhaps regrouping after their failed attempts. The lack of engagement brought mixed feelings to the group. Although they were gaining points—1,000 per day for simply maintaining the post—the low points threatened to jeopardize their hard-earned position at the top of the rankings. At this rate, with no combat to bolster their points, Hall 6ʼs lead would likely slip in a matter of days, and Emery could sense the quiet frustration growing among his students.

On the third day, the quiet tension finally broke.

”They are here!!”

The elves, in their brutal strategy of attrition, unleashed a devastating assault on the city. Over a million orcs, dozens of ogres, and wyverns charged toward the cityʼs barrier, their grotesque forms filling the horizon like a wave of destruction. The sky darkened with the flapping wings of wyverns, and the ground trembled under the march of the orcish horde.

”Focus and follow Master Kleaʼs command!”

Emeryʼs voice rang out across the Northern Wall, his tone commanding yet steady. He had no intention of allowing his acolytes to fight this battle alone, even at the cost of the penalty to their academy points or ranking. 𝙍ÄΝŎ𝐁Ę𝐒

Hardy positioned himself next to Klea, relaying her orders as she coordinated spells with surgical precision. ”Shield up!!” she commanded.

Twenty acolytes, all equipped with heavy armor and shields, formed a front line as they stood shoulder to shoulder. Kleaʼs ice spells surged forth, reinforcing their shields with a layer of enchanted frost, solidifying their defense against the incoming orcs.

The first wave of the horde, charging forward with reckless fury, collided with the wall of shields. Together, they braced against the initial onslaught of orcs, the solid wall of shields slowing the furious horde to a halt.

When the hordeʼs momentum finally stalled, Klea began chanting water spells, creating a dense mist that enveloped the battlefield. The mist spread rapidly, confining the orcs, disorienting them, and blurring their vision. It was also a signal for the attack squads. Ten of the strongest acolytes leaped into the fray, striking with precision. Titus and Armenius, each commanding a squad of ten, led their groups to flank the orcs, strategically cutting through from the sides and driving the attackers into disarray.

Emery, positioned just behind them, kept a vigilant watch. His senses were attuned to any shift in the battle, and it wasnʼt long before he sensed dark energy gathering from the rear lines. A group of elven magus unleashed a high-level spell in the acolyteʼs direction.

Powerfull Tier 7 spell materialized [Meteor Fall]. Without hesitation, Emery reacted, drawing upon his spatial magic to intercept the massive fireball. With great efforts, Emery redirected it away from the city walls, steering the destructive force into the heart of the orc horde.

KABBOOMMM!!!

The redirected meteor plummeted, exploding upon impact and sending shockwaves through the enemy lines. Orcs were flung back in all directions, the powerful blast thinning their numbers significantly. The acolytes, though shaken by the impact, held their ground. The assault on the wall raged on for nearly an hour, the battle more intense than any they had previously encountered.
