Chapter 483: Automatic Point Production

A blue flicker crossed Kaiden’s vision.

This was not the usual kill prompt that he became familiar with over his time spent killing monsters... And humans.

No, this was not the familiar formatting tied to his personal combat achievements.

This was different.

A new window stamped itself across the upper corner of the projected screen.

[System Notice]

[Your Defenses have slain: Invader – Level 74 Archer.]

[Reward: +100 DMP]

[Current Dungeon Master Points: 100]

”DMP?!” Alice gasped, a bit out of the picture.

”DMP...” Nyx muttered. ”Dungeon Master Points.”

”Kai can use it to upgrade the dungeon!” Aria chirped.

”Weren’t you listening? I already told this to you and Mother.”

”... I was busy!”

”...”

Another line came into existence under the first.

A second kill confirmation popped up immediately after.

[Your Defenses have slain: Invader – Level 71 Scout.]

[Reward: +90 DMP]

[Current Dungeon Master Points: 190]

Luna had a giant grin as she read those numbers. ”Level 71... This is a person we can’t match right now. But they died so easily in our new home. Our defenses are awesome!”

The gamer girl’s eyes were sparkling with excitement. This was exactly the sort of thing she enjoyed.

Alice was glued to the screen, eyes wide. ”Big brother...! You’re earning points just by sitting here!”

”I’m working. This is work.”

Another chime.

Another corpse on the right-side feed.

[Your Defenses have slain: Invader – Level 76 Tank.]

[Reward: +115 DMP]

[Current Dungeon Master Points: 305]

Aria whistled under her breath. ”That’s... a good amount. If it scales with level, clearing out top-tier attackers might give you even a thousand.”

”Let’s hope they’re not top top tier, though...” Bastet purred. ”I wouldn’t want a rival of Mama Vespera to waltz in here. At least not for the time being.”

”Agreed,” Nyx chuckled.

Kaiden’s focus remained on the shifting numbers.

DMP.

Earned passively.

Automatically.

All he had to do was repel invaders, which could be done by creating a great dungeon.

Kaiden’s attention then began to snap between the numbers stacking on his interface... and the red hand gripping onto his thigh.

Calypso’s hand.

Warm. Bold. Absolutely up to no good. He’d told her ’later,’ and she was behaving properly... But still. Her mood was easy to read. The Demoness wanted to have steamy hot sex as they watched the invaders get butchered by their home’s kill zones.

Another kill notification popped up.

But it wasn’t the only thing that started to ’pop up’...

Somehow... Kaiden couldn’t exactly fault the woman any longer.

Calypso’s eyes glimmered with that ”I heard everything your body just said” confidence only a demoness girlfriend could pull off. She leaned in, so close her hot breath washed over his ear, and whispered:

”Anytime, anywhere. Just say the word, and I’m all yours, Darling~”

A shiver shot down his spine.

He gulped hard, loud enough for Bastet to flick a feline ear, and forced his brain to snap back into professional mode. Now was not the time... This was the first time their dungeon was invaded; they couldn’t relax so freely. It would be incredibly reckless to do so.

Thus, before Calypso’s hand could continue its adventurous journey south (again), he caught her fingers and held them still.

Not exactly pushing her away, just... holding her hand.

Calypso blinked, surprised for a heartbeat. She could practically feel his lust cooling off.

The girl understood the needs of her man, but also his desire to remain ready. And, for now, the latter triumphed over the former. As such, instead of being a pushy woman, she knew Kaiden would not appreciate it if she kept up. Thus, the sinful smile receded, replaced by a merry smile one could find on their bubbly girlfriends. Her tail began to sway in slow, happy arcs.

She shifted closer, rested her head against his shoulder, and let their hands stay laced together. When she spoke again, her voice wasn’t sultry, not one bit.

”Okay. This is good too.”

A moment passed, then Bastet noticed.

Her eyes darted to their joined hands.

Her ears perked.

Her tail puffed.

In the next second, she seized Kaiden’s other hand that had been resting on her sun-kissed shoulders.

She did so with zero hesitation and pulled it into her lap, clutching it like she absolutely refused to be outdone.

”Mine,” she declared with immense feline territorialism, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Then she leaned her cheek against his shoulder, matching Calypso’s posture perfectly.

Kaiden now sat pinned between two monster girls who were very pleased with themselves, while his interface continued to display the different scenes and also granted him kill notifications.

Professional mode was getting harder by the second.

Literally and figuratively.

But he persevered.

That was when Luna suddenly clasped her hands together like a cartoon villainess who’d just seen what she had waited for for a long time, finally about to happen.

”Look, it’s happening!”

Kaiden followed her gaze.

The second path suddenly dipped downward, straight into the earth like someone had cut a chute through stone.

A brave man stepped up to the edge.

Well... ”brave” might’ve been generous. His boss, a woman with a sharp voice and no patience, barked at him to move.

He obeyed.

He climbed down from ridge to ridge, boots scraping rock, one hand on the wall, the other gripping his weapon. Professional. Careful. Focused.

Then he got low enough that his team above could no longer see him.

He continued lower... and lower... until his boots finally hit what looked like solid ground.

He swept his light around, body tense.

Nothing moved.

Nothing breathed.

He took one step forward...

And his foot shot out from under him.

He yelped, slipped, and slammed onto his back before sliding down a new slope hidden in the floor. His screams bounced off the tight walls. He clawed at the stone, trying to stop himself. His boots kicked wildly. His weapon clanged away from him.

Something coated the stone.

Wet. Slick.

Impossible to grip.

”NONONO!”

The tunnel spat him out like trash.

He dropped straight into a pit of bubbling lava.

His scream turned into a gurgle.

Then, into nothing but the sound of flesh breaking down at a terrifying speed.

Above, the woman leading the squad stiffened when his signal abruptly cut.

”What happened?!” she snapped. ”Report!”

Only static.

Her jaw clenched.

”You three,” she barked at the next group that consisted of two men and one woman. ”Go down together. Find out what’s under there.”

They nodded and descended in a tight formation.

The first two made it to the same lower chamber. Their lights flashed around in the darkness.

They stepped forward and instantly slid.

The third climber, still partway down the chute, froze. He heard the scraping, the screams, the frantic attempts to stop.

He looked down from his vantage point and saw it all happen right before his very eyes.

”STOP SLIDING!” he yelled.

As if they weren’t already trying.

He saw them hit the pit, then the sound of bodies dissolving.

He almost dropped his comm crystal, hands shaking.

He forced himself to lift it.

”Boss... They’re gone. They slid into... something.”

”What do you MEAN they slid?! I didn’t know I brought children into a fucking amusement park!” she roared.

”They couldn’t stop. The ground’s coated in something, maybe...”

She muttered curses under her breath, furious.

”I’ll get to the bottom of this,” he decreed.

He tied a dagger to a rope and tossed it into the cavern room. It clattered against stone, then he hauled it back up.

The blade was covered in slime.

”Damn...” he whispered.

He lifted his comm crystal again, but just as he did, a sound burst from below.

A splash.

A rush.

A burst of heat.

Something exploded from the lava.

Thin. Long. Serpentine.

A monster shaped for speed and violence, with jaws snapping open as it lunged straight for his throat.

He didn’t even have time to scream.
