Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 934: It turns out that life is tough for everyone, in every place and every industry...

Yang Heng was the one who went to draw lots.

He originally wanted Xiao He to go, but Xiao He pulled out his Air Force Fishing Video the next second.

Yang Heng then fell silent.

No, is Xiao He really that unlucky?

At this point, it can no longer be simply described as bad luck.

Having only heard about it before, Yang Heng now saw it with his own eyes and greatly admired Xiao He.

”So this incredibly lucky person is your assistant? Can we ask him to go up and draw the lottery?”

Yang Heng posed a probing question, ”I feel that with him drawing the numbers, itʼs a sure thing no matter what number we get.”

”Although he came with us this time, unfortunately he canʼt help you with the lottery.”

Xiao He shattered Yang Hengʼs illusion with a blank expression.

”All right.”

Yang Heng wiped his face and dismissed the idea.

but--

”Then Iʼll shake his hand a few more times before I go on stage, just to get some of his good fortune.”

Yang Heng rubbed his hands together and bowed very devoutly.

Xiao He: ”...Thatʼs a good option.”

Although there is no scientific proof that Xiao Chenʼs good luck can possess someone, countless lottery draws have proven that this thing does have some effect.

And so, carrying everyoneʼs hopes, Yang Heng went up on stage to draw lots—

”sixteen.”

A number that is near the end of the middle.

Based on the schedule of two daily performances by the major theater troupe, their performance will be next Saturday.

Everyone in the troupe breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the news.

Yang Heng smiled and gave Xiao He a thumbs up: ”The legendary European Emperorʼs metaphysics is truly well-deserved!”

At this point in the competition, the judges had already reached the latter half and had a complete set of criteria for judging the general level of the competition and for scoring.

A week also gives their troupe more time to prepare and refine the details.

After the performance, they wonʼt have to wait too long before they can enjoy a week-long vacation abroad while waiting for the final results of the competition.

This draw position is indeed very comfortable.

This also greatly boosted everyoneʼs confidence.

”Oh, right, I wandered around the area while I was drawing lots and asked about the order of other countries.”

At this point, Yang Hengʼs expression turned serious, as this concerned the final outcome of their competition.

Qu Yuan approached, adjusted his glasses, and asked, ”How is the situation?”

Although China is already a major power, in these kinds of competitions, they have always been in the middle tier, belonging to the team that does not have an absolute advantage, but can still cause upsets if they make a push.

However, the gold and silver medals in these kinds of competitions are usually dominated by a few European countries. Other perennial favorites for the championship are Russia, Greece, England, Germany, and the neighboring island nation.

This is related to cultural roots. Drama is a strength of several Eastern European countries, and musicals are also top-notch. There are sometimes commonalities in culture, thought, and religious beliefs. In addition, China entered these competitions relatively late, and the judging panel had long been self-contained with its own relationships. Therefore, these latecomers were naturally at a disadvantage compared to their opponents.

However, the troupe members were not unprepared this time.

The script for ”The Root of Calamity” is one they meticulously crafted, and Xiao He is a secret weapon they specially invited. With the resonance of local emotional pain and everyoneʼs joint efforts, they may very well be a dark horse in this competition!

Of course, they still need to pay attention to the situation of their opponents.

”Germany started, Russia finished last, and the island nation was unlucky this time, ending up right after Russia...”

Yang Heng immediately explained the distribution of several strong teams.

After everyone gathered together to discuss it carefully, they felt that the rankings of the other strong teams were not very good.

”It seems that believing in some ancient Chinese metaphysics is still useful!”

Yang Heng chuckled and patted Xiao He on the shoulder, ”Weʼve been incredibly lucky this time!”

”Cough cough, but we canʼt completely let our guard down.”

Qu Kangcheng coughed lightly, interrupting Yang Heng, and instructed, ”After the detailed ranking list comes out, go and get a copy, and then weʼll go and take a look at it too.”

-

A few days later, Xiao He and the others went to the scene to watch the opening performance of the German team.

Their script this time is based on a classic novel, ”Mother Courage and Her Children,” which tells the story of a mother who takes her three children with her to work as a war merchant, profiting from the war, and ultimately all three children die in the war.

This is a very classic play that has won many international awards before. Even though half a century has passed, it is still a well-known work in the industry.

This performance was a bold adaptation and creation based on the classic. Xiao He had never seen the original version before and this was his first time seeing this kind of performance live, so he watched with great interest. Qu Kangcheng, who had seen the troupeʼs most classic version, nodded and shook his head from time to time, whispering to the person next to him.

”It seems that theater troupes in various places havenʼt been developing very well in recent years.”

Yang Heng sighed.

Looking at the entries submitted this time, very few teams dared to present new works; it seems that everyone was still adopting a conservative approach.

This kind of arts and culture competition isnʼt like a sports meet where you can rely on one trick. Innovation is still very important, whether itʼs the performance style or the storyline.

Living off past glories is a very cruel thing to do.

Because they canʼt compare to the classics, and canʼt surpass their predecessors, they can only watch helplessly as the old actors are replaced by new ones. In the end, they become numb to the plot, and can guess the next plot with their eyes closed. There is no longer any novelty that catches their eye.

The current situation gives the impression that all industries are declining due to the poor economic environment.

I wonder if these six years have been too long, affecting many peopleʼs mindset.

”Theyʼve already done quite well, and theyʼve consistently produced innovative works. Itʼs just that this time, perhaps because they were the first team to compete, they opted for a more conservative script.”

Qu Kangcheng smiled, which gave him more confidence and assurance in the competition: ”But this is good too. Maybe this year will really be an opportunity for us.”

-

The woman on stage, with her exaggerated and bold makeup, changed from black to red under the lights, her eyes shifting with the changing lights and clothes, sometimes looking mournful, sometimes mad. The stark contrast allowed people to glimpse her past and her future in that moment.

”If you want to survive through war, you have to offer something to war.”

Thus, the poor were forced to become bold, mothers became resolute, and the weak, who had been hiding and fleeing, sought wealth in the war, until finally, the war on which she ”depended for survival” took away her children...

Many people in war are ignorant.

Before they could even understand what all this meant, they had already become victims of the war.

This is just a microcosm of the lives of ordinary people in that era.

Even more tragically, even though more and more people now understand what this means, the final result is nothing more than consciously sinking into depravity until the day they are caught up in the flames of war and die for their beliefs.

...

What is a classic?

Even after half a century, and even though everyone knows the plot, it is a work that can still attract the attention of most people and be loved by them.

Without a doubt, this work has succeeded.

While the adaptation is based on a classic and may not surpass the original, it is still a rare gem.

”What a pity.”

A voice came from the side.

”If they hadnʼt been the first troupe to perform, they would still have been able to maintain a high ranking this time.”

Of course, the current work can be considered popular, but the opening performance is a classic adaptation. The judges havenʼt found their scoring rhythm yet, so the score for the first performance will definitely be slightly lower. This is not a problem with the troupeʼs ability, but purely a matter of luck.

Xiao He turned his head and glanced at the man, discovering that he was a slightly overweight, unfamiliar middle-aged man.
