Gaowu invasion, I can see the future

99: White Jiao and fat catfish, planning the future of the guardian beast, black blood murder!Chapter 99: White Dragon - Fat Catfish, Planning for the Future of a Guardian Beast, Black Blood Case!

Just as Lin Professor was setting up the trap, the attention of the surrounding onlookers was naturally drawn to it, and they began to discuss animatedly.

“Look, look! The Official people are moving.”

“It looks like they’re setting up some kind of fishing net. They’re not going to try and catch this giant beast, are they? It would be better to just blow it up and kill it.”

“You’re stupid! This kind of giant beast is a once-in-a-thousand-years occurrence! They definitely need to capture it and study it.”

“Indeed! I always feel like the world has been a bit strange these past few years. Maybe these creatures’ Bloodline has Awakened to their ancestors, hahaha~”

As soon as these words came out, some people in the crowd who knew about the existence of the extraordinary fell silent.

Brother, don’t laugh! When you find out what’s happening in the world, you won’t be laughing anymore.

During the setup process, Bai Yu and the others also put on their stealth suits.

Although everyone felt that White Spirit releasing her Dragon Might could easily subdue this Catfish Demon, just like the Scoundrel Snake and the Fat Catfish, it was definitely a Bloodline suppression.

But with so many onlookers, they still had to put on a show.

Otherwise, a Void Realm Beastmaster, right?

“It’s set.”

“Dive!”

“Look! They’ve dived down!”

“Holy crap! That’s too bold, isn’t it? I’ve seen that monster; it’s at least ten meters long, and it might eat people.”

“One bite and it’s crunchy, right?”

“They must have brought weapons, right?”

“Hard to say.”

“Don’t kill it! I haven’t even seen a Catfish yet. Maybe it’s just a rumor, maybe it’s a whale that entered the inland!”

“Exactly, I’ve been watching for over two hours, just wanting to see it! To confirm it.”

Underwater.

This time, Bai Yu’s sense of fear wasn’t as strong.

Soon, he swam near the Catfish and saw it soundly asleep.

Seeing this, Bai Yu also released White Spirit.

Currently, White Spirit was only a little over two meters long and didn’t look very big; compared to the large and plump Catfish, she appeared somewhat petite.

“Yu Ge, what do we do next?”

“This monster is only a half-step Ling Yuan Realm. It looks a bit fat, but if it really comes to a fight, you should be able to handle it easily. Now, let’s see if you can communicate with it and make it obey our management. If it doesn’t obey, we’ll give it to that professor and let him tame it.”

“Okay~”

After White Spirit finished speaking, she swam over.

This Catfish looked quite clumsy, with its large white belly flipping, shrinking, and bulging.

White Spirit came above it, her tail flicking the water, but when it hit its belly, the other party seemed to have no reaction.

“Hmph!”

She also had a child’s Heart-Nature, and the pride of a True Dragon made her slightly angry.

Her tail spun, and this area instantly formed a small whirlpool.

The force of the whirlpool guided the Catfish to start spinning.

The Catfish then sensed something, did a carp-like flip, and sat up halfway, seemingly looking around.

First, it saw Bai Yu and the others, its palm-sized eyes seemingly glaring at them.

Damn it! Disturbing the fish’s sweet dreams!

It was about to swim over and teach these humans who disturbed its beautiful dream a lesson.

But White Spirit’s Soul transmission sounded: “Fathead fish!”

The Catfish seemed to understand this sound, and its whole body trembled, stirring up the muddy water around it.

Bai Yu and the others lost their sight and instantly became alert.

But White Spirit’s voice sounded: “You still want to escape in front of me?”

Immediately, White Spirit swung her tail, stirring up a massive current.

Although they didn’t see the specific situation, they felt a ‘thwack’ sound.

As expected, the Catfish was struck out.

Bai Yu: Holy crap! Is a twelve-meter fat fish really that useless? Did you grow this fat and big for nothing?

After being struck, the Catfish didn’t dare to fight back or escape.

It turned around and, facing the muddy, turbid water, bowed its head in submission!

Father!

No! Godfather!

Still not right! It should be Godmother!

Dragon Mother above, if the mother is not present, the fish is willing to worship you as its Godmother!

It seemed to be begging for mercy.

“Whether to let you go or not, you have to ask Yu Ge.”

The Catfish seemed to understand and looked at Bai Yu and the other six, seemingly searching for who Bai Yu was.

These six guys all looked the same.

Bai Yu found this scene quite interesting.

‘Is this effective communication? It’s truly simple and crude!’

From the process, this Catfish Demon was quite human-like! And this Fat Catfish did look rather docile and cute, very suitable for taming.

After thinking for a moment, Bai Yu spoke: “Tell me about your origins.”

The Catfish seemed to pause, its large eyes filled with bewilderment.

Look, do I have a human mouth? How am I supposed to speak!

“I told you to speak, didn’t you hear?”

The Catfish suddenly remembered that this grand-aunt was still here and could act as a translator.

Without any visible mouth movements, White Spirit’s relaying voice was heard: “You said you only Awakened your sentience 5 days ago? Before that, you grew in size by using the Spiritual Eye in the lake.”

“Now you are just temporarily borrowing this precious place to Cultivate? You absolutely have no ill intentions.”

After hearing the relay, Bai Yu asked: “Then why did you run out and scare people?”

“Gurgle~ Gurgle~”

The Catfish opened its mouth, as if it was arguing.

“Yu Ge, it says it was just tired from Cultivating and went out for a walk, not intending to scare anyone.”

“Alright. Being this fat, it really does need to go out more and lose some weight.”

Catfish Demon: ??? I’m not fat! This is all the accumulation of years. But I dare not say it.

“Then tell him to come with me to the lake surface for now, and interact with ordinary humans. It would be best if people could sit on its back to soothe the public’s emotions.”

“In the future, it can show itself, and even go to the shore to play with humans. But it must be honest and appear intelligent and docile.”

“And then, this is the key task I’m giving you! Spend a few hours every day patrolling the waters of both lakes, to see if there are any abnormal creatures, or even monster races like mermen.”

“Consider it as losing weight.”

Liu Feifei and the others had not heard the content of Bai Yu’s conversation with Lin Professor, and now hearing this idea, they were stunned.

When it comes to fun, you’re the expert!

Can it really stay in Yun Lake?

Did Lin Professor’s side also agree?

Seeing the Catfish still thinking, White Spirit flicked her tail, stirring the water.

Upon seeing this, the Catfish immediately became obedient, bowing frantically, likely nodding in agreement; those unaware might have thought it was saying ‘sumimasen’.

“Yu Ge, he agreed.”

“Good. If you actively attack humans, then consider how much this meat is worth.”

The Catfish quickly argued.

“It says it absolutely doesn’t eat human flesh, and has no interest in humans, only wanting to Cultivate honestly and become the strongest Catfish.”

“That’s good! Occasionally surface and interact more with tourists. If the tourism industry booms and I can get some benefits from it, I’ll use it to buy you treasures for Cultivating.”

Upon hearing this, the Catfish was delighted!

Everyone: ??? Make money?

Goodness!

They could already imagine how popular tourism would become once Spirit Beasts appeared.

It’s just that—

Li Yunbin couldn’t help but say: “Uh, although the higher-ups haven’t made specific arrangements and let us improvise, doing this might cause a sensation.”

“Captain, this isn’t just my idea. Lin Professor’s original plan was to take it back for taming, and if successful, consider releasing it back into Yun Lake. At least, judging by the higher-ups’ attitude towards this matter, it seems quite casual.”

“Now, Mote Manor has caused such a big stir that the truth can’t be hidden forever. The extraordinary world probably won’t be kept secret for much longer. I feel that the higher-ups’ idea is to gradually open up. Letting Spirit Beasts interact with humans now, if the news suddenly spreads later, people who have already had contact with friendly Spirit Beasts will have their panic reduced.”

“Hmm, then I’ll write a report to the higher-ups.”

“Alright! Shall we take the Catfish Demon up now?”

Li Yunbin also agreed: “We can indeed see the public’s reaction to the Catfish Demon. This task was explicitly assigned by the higher-ups before we came.”

“Got it!”

Bai Yu was a newcomer, and more importantly, he had a lot of merit, so he acted somewhat fearlessly.

His inner thought was that letting this Spirit Beast openly help him patrol the waters was the Righteous Path.

As for the exposure of the extraordinary world, the higher-ups seemed to be mentally prepared.

Indeed!

Now that the Spiritual Qi has been recovering for nearly twenty years, the basic situation seems to have stabilized.

There’s no longer a concern about losing control of the situation.

On Yun Lake.

Many people, having heard that Official personnel had dived down, skipped work and rushed over directly.

The number of onlookers increased even more.

“Look! A dark shadow! It’s that water monster!”

“Is this water monster being dragged by something? Why is it following that group of people so coordinately?”

“I don’t know…”

“Holy crap! I really saw the water monster! This trip to Tianhai City wasn’t in vain!”

Meanwhile, Bai Yu and the others quickly reached the shore, and the Catfish stopped by the lake.

Seeing this, Lin Professor knew that Bai Yu had successfully resolved the issue.

Indeed! In a sense, a Catfish is also a Dragon’s subordinate.

A White Dragon carries Dragon’s Might, enough to awe many Spirit Beasts.

The domestication effect would naturally be much better than artificial domestication.

If a Spirit Beast were confined to a research institute, it would instead breed resentment.

After coming ashore, Bai Yu picked up a megaphone, pointed to the right side of the water, and shouted, “Swim right!”

The giant Catfish immediately followed the command.

The crowd on the shore instantly cheered.

“What the heck! Am I dreaming? Can a fish understand human speech? This giant monster is actually listening to that person’s command!”

“Holy crap! Is it real or fake? Is he a beast tamer?”

“Swim left!”

“Turn around!”

“Spray some water!”

Hearing this, the Catfish was bewildered. “Buddy, how do I spray water? Are you going to find an excuse to say I did something wrong and then kill me?”

Bai Yu’s original intention was for it to spray water like a whale, but he suddenly forgot that this creature was a Catfish, not a mammal.

However, to his surprise, after a moment of bewilderment, the Catfish took a gulp with its mouth and then sprayed out a slight mist.

This scene stunned the people on the shore.

“Good heavens! This giant monster’s intelligence is so high! It’s practically a Border Collie of the water; it actually seems to be thinking.”

“I suspect whether someone in our world has superpowers and can even tame beasts!”

“You should read more! Killer whales have the intelligence of a fifteen or sixteen-year-old, and dogs like Border Collies are at most twelve years old! So the intelligence of this type of giant fish is similar to humans. It’s very normal for them to understand commands; it’s just a matter of whether they obey.”

Look! There are great scholars debating the classics!

After training for a while, Bai Yu began chatting with Lin Professor, thinking of asking Lin Professor to help write a draft or something under his name.

Lin Professor looked at the reactions of the people around him and showed no concern; instead, he said excitedly, “Your style of doing things, I really like it, kid! Hahaha~ To be honest, I also feel that creatures like Spirit Beasts should live in nature and interact more with people.”

“If some powerful Spirit Beasts develop strong feelings for the humans in a certain area, they might even become Guardian Beasts! Guarding this region and resisting future alien races.”

“I feel that our future will be like this: there will be many Spirit Beasts with powerful Divine Beast Bloodlines, guarding all sides and resisting Odd Gods!”

Bai Yu hadn’t expected Lin Professor to have such thoughts and replied, “Hey! That’s right. Those old fogeys at the top are too conservative. This era needs us post-2015 people to manage it.”

“...Should I add that sentence to the report?”

“That’s completely unnecessary! However, seriously, you bringing this Catfish away in front of so many people, doing it furtively, makes it seem like you’re hiding something. It’s better to let everyone see it openly. Professor, don’t you agree?”

“Haha~ Kid, are you worried that this giant beast will become a trending topic on the news, making it a bigger fuss? And that the people at the top will find trouble with you after they find out? Are you trying to make up for it now?”

Bai Yu scratched his head, a little embarrassed.

He was indeed worried about making it too big of a deal! Fortunately, he could always clean up the mess now, transport the Catfish away, and then prohibit the spread of related videos online.

But doing so would ultimately feel like a classic case of ‘no silver here, three hundred taels.’ Moreover, his plan to patrol the two lakes would fall through, and he could only talk about underwater detectors and the like.

“I guess I am a little worried.”

“Don’t worry about that. In fact, it’s not just our Tianhai City that experienced such a major event yesterday; other places have as well. Paper can’t cover fire. My agreement to your idea, do you think it’s my personal decision?”

“In reality, some places have already relaxed control over Spirit Beasts and similar incidents, even allowing some ordinary people who are friendly with Spirit Beasts to continue living with them. However, the information is controlled within a small area, treated as a small-scale social experiment!”

“Regarding the Yun Lake matter, I will submit a complete report to the higher-ups and also write a detailed research report on this Catfish Demon.”

Upon hearing this, Bai Yu’s impression of Lin Professor, whom he was meeting for only the second time and interacting with for the first time, soared.

Speaking of which, the big shots in this world seemed to be quite good.

While Bai Yu and Lin Professor were chatting, Li Yunbin’s phone rang.

“Hello~”

“Captain! We have intelligence related to the Black Blood Case.”

Li Yunbin had already said that he wouldn’t take on major cases in the coming days. But the Black Blood Case in this area had to be reported to them!

This kind of crisis couldn’t be delayed.

“Hmm, go ahead.”

“Captain, do you remember the young couple from Xiangya Hospital we dealt with before? We’ve been investigating the woman’s past information.”

“Then, last night, after you mentioned the male’s issue, we went to the man’s apartment today to investigate, and we found two bodies in the room! One was the man’s body, and the other was a prostitute he had brought.”

“The woman looked as if she had been gnawed by a monster; only her skeleton remains now.”

“That man named Wu Lei had even directly transformed into a monster! However, he’s now a black dried corpse, seemingly drained of blood.”

Hearing this, Li Yunbin’s expression instantly turned serious.

Their previous investigation had always focused on pregnant women.

But yesterday, the ones who attacked Bai Yu were two males, and they had suddenly turned into Black Blood Monsters! He immediately grew suspicious and told the analysis team to change their direction.

Now, this incident with Wu Lei had also occurred.

And the Black Blood had even been drained!!!

It was as if this Black Blood was of great use and had been collected by someone.

There was clearly something fishy going on, which might be the key to the case.

“Alright, I understand. Send me the information. You control the scene for now, and I’ll be right over. Be extremely careful of Black Blood creatures, even if they’re dead!”

“Understood!”

After speaking, Li Yunbin hung up the phone and looked at Bai Yu, who was discussing with Lin Professor how to deal with the Catfish.

“Lin Professor, if you ask me, we should lift the blockade now and let some brave people come over and interact more.”

“You kid! So many people rushing in, aren’t you afraid of a stampede? A large crowd is easily uncontrollable. For now, we still need to maintain the blockade. Wait until everyone’s enthusiasm wanes and the crowd thins out, then do as you say.”

“That’s true! But with so many people here now, why don’t we select a few brave ones to set an example and let them experience it? Just for publicity. Otherwise, someone will definitely say that such a dangerous giant beast wasn’t taken away or killed, and was left in Yun Lake to scare people.”

“That is possible.”

Lin Professor’s agreement meant that if something went wrong, he would choose to bear part of the responsibility.

However, based on his research on Spirit Beasts, he also understood that Spirit Beasts are sometimes smarter than humans.

More importantly, Spirit Beasts have simpler Heart-Natures!

It’s like how people sometimes say dogs are more loyal than humans. Because the simpler a creature is, the less complicated its thoughts, and sometimes the more reliable it is.

In modern society, you can’t expect human thoughts not to change.

Soon, investigators went to screen people.

Today’s update is 21,000 words. Later, I’ll discuss recent achievements and reader questions.
