Madam’s Identities Shocks the Entire City Again

Chapter 3903: Chapter 3903: It’s Time for Her to Find Lu Zhi

Such a big contract is out.

Even the mercenaries stationed at Nie Qingru’s estate are starting to get restless; more and more people have been asking for leave and slipping away early lately.

Shadow has a splitting headache over it, and at the same time can’t do anything about this group.

After all, these peripheral mercenaries are just hired muscle they spent money to bring in. Now that this bunch has found something more profitable, of course their hearts are wavering, and hardly anyone is willing to take his orders.

”Empress.”

Shadow had just dealt with a few people asking for leave outside and came in, only to see Nie Qingru sitting in the chair with a dark expression, lifting her eyes to look at him.

”How many people left today?”

”...”

Shadow lifted his eyes and dropped them again, really not wanting to provoke her.

Nie Qingru pressed him, forceful as ever: ”Speak!”

Shadow had no choice but to answer bitterly, ”Ten. Up to now we’ve already lost one-third of our manpower.”

”Hmph.” Nie Qingru let out a cold laugh, ”A bunch of low-level trash. If I hadn’t hit a rough patch I wouldn’t have gone to them in the first place. They’ve got some nerve, daring to treat me like this.”

Shadow tried to placate her: ”Empress, please don’t get angry. These people are desperados to begin with, they don’t give a damn about loyalty or morals. If they don’t want to work for us, we’ll find new people to replace them.”

”Of course I know that.” Nie Qingru’s tone was still unpleasant. She propped a hand against her forehead, like she was having another headache: ”But over at Xicheng...”

”Young Master Di...” Shadow didn’t know how to comfort her either.

He’d told the empress from the start that Qiao Nian wasn’t the type to lie. Since Qiao Nian kept saying Young Master Di wasn’t in her hands, then he definitely wasn’t.

But the empress wouldn’t listen, stubbornly convinced Young Master Di’s disappearance had something to do with Qiao Nian, and in the middle of this standoff, when both sides’ swords were already drawn, she went and grabbed Guan Yan.

That completely enraged Qiao Nian, who then started a massive manhunt for Young Master Di, hell-bent on making the accusation stick.

The empress is usually sharp and capable, but this time even Shadow has to admit Nie Qingru was too rash, which led to the current situation.

They’re really on the back foot now.

”No one could have expected Qiao Nian to pull something like this.” Shadow could only lower his voice, controlling his breathing. ”You need to take care of your health.”

Nie Qingru’s face was full of rage, features twisted to the extreme. She slammed the table hard and growled, ”I say she just doesn’t want to let me live in peace. Otherwise how could she do something like this! My health... with such a ’good’ granddaughter thinking about my health, how good do you think it can get!”

It’s already a blessing she hasn’t died early like they all wish!

In the face of her fury, Shadow didn’t dare lift his head.

Fortunately, Nie Qingru’s temper flares fast and dies fast. Soon she pulled her anger back, leaving only a chilling coldness in her brows and eyes: ”She wants to go looking for Xicheng, doesn’t she? Perfect. It’s about time I paid Lu Zhi a visit too.”

”If he can keep still and not make a move, he’ll get to attend my good granddaughter’s wedding in due time! He must be reaching the limit of his patience too.”

”...”

Shadow raised his head, saying nothing.

He doesn’t think Lu Zhi is an ideal partner.

But right now, on their turf in the illegal zone, they’re hemmed in on all sides. Without Lu Zhi’s help, it’ll be very hard not to be suppressed by Qiao Nian.

Shadow said softly, ”Let’s hope Lu Zhi doesn’t disappoint you.”

Nie Qingru was utterly confident. She turned her gaze away and said coolly, ”He won’t let me down, because this time he’s not doing it for me—he’s doing it for himself. I’m nothing more than his stepping stone, but I’m not afraid of shouldering that. Heh. At this point, with how far things have gone between me and her, I’m not afraid of adding a little more hatred to the mix.”

Lu Zhi wants to move against Ye Wangchuan, but he can’t afford the anger and hatred he’d face from Qiao Nian if he touches Ye Wangchuan.
