Longevity Reward Redemption: The Immortal Clan Starts with Farmers

24: Selling alcohol and recruiting soldiers! The wedding banquet ended in a lively atmosphere, and Chuanwu and Wang Juan went to the bridal chamber.

Chen Changsheng naturally would not go eavesdropping; that was a pastime for children, so he and his wife went to sleep early.

The next morning, Chuanwu brought the somewhat shy Wang Juan to serve tea to Chen Changsheng. The two then stuck together and left, which finally saved Chen Changsheng from having to endure too much public display of affection.

”Chuanwen, I plan to open a liquor shop in the county town and have you manage the business. What do you think?”

Chen Changsheng set down his jasmine tea and called over Chuanwen, who was planning to go practice martial arts, to speak with him.

”Dad! You plan to develop our business in the county town?”

Chen Chuanwen’s eyes lit up, and he quickly walked in front of Chen Changsheng with an expression that said this should have happened long ago:

”I have long felt that we cannot just hide away in Kaoshan Village. If our Chen Family wants to grow, we must go to the county town to do business!”

Chen Changsheng chuckled. Even though this second son didn’t seem very noticeable on a daily basis, in reality, his ambition was the greatest.

”Opening a liquor shop in the county town requires interacting and connecting with the Clans and officials in the county. Do you think you can handle that?”

Chen Changsheng asked with a smile. Chen Chuanwen also revealed a smile; he already had an idea in mind.

”Dad, with my big brother’s Face in the county town, I believe no one would dare to cause trouble. If someone really is blind, your son is also a Bone-Refining Martial Artist, and my blade can kill too!”

Chen Changsheng sighed inwardly. Although his second son was steady, he was too ruthless. However, during the founding stage of a Family, gentleness is not as effective as ruthlessness.

After all, if you do not have a resounding reputation, people will fear power but not cherish virtue!

”Alright, since you already have an idea, you shall be responsible for this liquor shop. However, there is one thing you must pay attention to: do not let doing business ruin your own Dao of martial arts cultivation!”

Chen Changsheng nodded. He ultimately decided to let Chen Chuanwen be responsible for the liquor shop business. His second son was thoughtful and better suited for developing practical matters.

”Don’t worry, Dad. I know what I’m doing!”

Chen Chuanwen revealed a happy smile. He was also eighteen years old and wanted to carve out a career rather than just hiding at home practicing martial arts.

Following that, Chen Changsheng personally taught Chuanwen the method of brewing liquor and took out one thousand taels of silver to hand over to Chuanwen for use.

Brewing white liquor is very simple; it is just distillation. Chen Chuanwen was very clever and learned it quickly.

Next, he bought a large amount of grain from wealthy households in the village who had grain and brewed two hundred jars of white liquor.

Subsequently, he personally chose a shop in the county town and recruited a manager, an accountant, and other staff.

A month later, the Chen Family Tavern opened with great success!

With Chen Chuanwu’s Face, plus the fact that everyone had tasted the strong chinese liquor at the wedding banquet not long ago.

Many people in the county town came to offer their congratulations and bought quite a bit of white liquor.

For a time, the Chen Family Tavern’s business was booming with a constant stream of guests, especially the managers of the county town’s Restaurants, who were ordering liquor in batches.

The reputation of the strong chinese liquor had truly already spread throughout the county town.

When guests went to Restaurants to eat, they all wanted to order a pot to taste. If a place didn’t have this strong chinese liquor, it would not only affect their business but also their reputation.

Furthermore, winter was approaching, and Annan Prefecture was already extremely cold in the winter. Drinking a mouthful of hot liquor would immediately warm one’s whole body.

Therefore, the strong chinese liquor was extremely popular in the county town, and the two hundred jars of liquor that Chen Chuanwen had prepared were actually sold out in a single month!

Late at night, inside the Chen Family’s Courtyard House.

Chen Changsheng quietly listened as Chuanwen reported the accounts while holding the ledger.

”Dad, at the time, purchasing the grain cost a total of two hundred taels, the monthly wages for the hired workers totaled twenty taels, and buying the shop in the county town cost a total of six hundred taels.”

”This month, two hundred jars of white liquor were sold, bringing in a total income of over two thousand taels.”

”I plan to brew more liquor next month; otherwise, I’m afraid that when customers come, they won’t be able to buy any!”

Chen Changsheng listened to the report and sighed inwardly; selling liquor was truly a lucrative business!

One had to know that the Materials plus labor for brewing the white liquor only cost two hundred taels of silver in total, and selling it turned a profit of two thousand taels.

Ten times the profit! It was truly tempting!

”You can make your own arrangements for the next steps. Since our Family’s liquor is selling so well, I feel that someone is bound to come and cause trouble, so you must keep that in mind!”

Chen Changsheng tapped his index finger lightly on the wooden table, giving Chen Chuanwen a reminder. They had forcefully entered the county town’s liquor trade, and he believed the other taverns could not possibly have no reaction.

They were just waiting and lying in ambush; once there was an opportunity, they would definitely cause trouble for their competitors!

”Dad, don’t worry. The largest household in the county town’s liquor trade is the Wang Family, and I have sent people to keep an eye on their movements!”

Chen Chuanwen nodded and said, appearing to have made full preparations.

”It’s good that you know what you’re doing! By the way, you should find two residences in the county town for yourself and your brother. Constantly running back and forth between the village and the county town is inconvenient; you should find a place to settle down!”

”Dad, if my big brother and I both live in the county town, who will take care of you?”

Upon hearing that Chen Changsheng wanted them to live in the county town, Chuanwen frowned. He was somewhat worried about Chen Changsheng’s safety.

”Haha. With Howling Heaven here, whoever causes me trouble is courting death!”

Chen Changsheng laughed heartily and stroked the white dog lying at his feet.

Chen Chuanwen looked at the even larger Howling Heaven and smiled helplessly. He had actually forgotten about this great deity in their home.

”Alright then, I’ll go pick out the residences tomorrow!”

Chen Chuanwen nodded and then left. He was now in charge of a business and was clearly much busier, but it was evident that he enjoyed it.

Following that, Chen Chuanwen bought two houses not far from the Restaurant in the county town, and the Chen brothers moved in.

Perhaps out of fear of Chen Chuanwu’s reputation, or perhaps because Chen Chuanwen hadn’t snatched enough business to be ruthless, the Chen Family’s liquor business went very smoothly over the next two months, and no one came to cause trouble.

However, another rumor in the county town made Chen Changsheng frown!

Longwei County was going to conscript soldiers, and every household that met the conscription requirements had to provide one male.

It was said that this time, Annan Prefecture was going to war with the barbarian tribes of the neighboring country, and there were actually Immortals participating.

Although it is said that war is the fastest way to change one’s destiny, the Chen Family was developing step by step, and their days were flourishing. This war had suddenly disrupted Chen Changsheng’s plans.

”Is it confirmed? Are we really going to war?”

Chen Changsheng frowned, looked at Chen Chuanwu beside him, and asked with a somewhat unpleasant expression.

”There are rumors flying everywhere in the county, and the County Magistrate has no intention of stopping the discussion.”

”I asked my master and also inquired at the Yamen; I heard that we might go to war with the barbarian tribes next spring!”

Chen Chuanwu also frowned. He had connections in the county town and was better informed; after making several inquiries, he confirmed the news that war was imminent.

”Sigh, this war has come at a bad time!”

Chen Changsheng sighed deeply, a trace of worry flashing in his eyes. The war had come too suddenly, and it was estimated that conscription would begin this month.

Given their Chen Family’s situation, could they escape this conscription?
