Longevity Reward Redemption: The Immortal Clan Starts with Farmers

11: Refining the Five Elements SoupThis horrifying scene instantly silenced the entire courtyard.

Liu Ergou and the other two looked at Howling Heaven with a mix of shock, suspicion, and terror!

Growing to such a size and being this ferocious—severing a person’s arm with a single swipe of its claw—was it even a dog?

Chen Changsheng smiled and stroked Howling Heaven’s head, his gaze sweeping over the three men, and he said in a calm tone:

”Go, Howling Heaven, cut off the hands they used to hold their knives!”

As soon as these words were spoken, the three men’s expressions changed instantly, but before they could react, Howling Heaven shot toward Liu Ergou and the others like a bolt of white lightning!

”Ah! My hand!”

The fat man on the side let out a shrill scream; with a wave of Howling Heaven’s sharp claws, his right hand holding the knife fell off, and blood sprayed out.

”Don’t... don’t... come over here, you monster!”

Liu Ergou had never seen such a brutal scene before; he held his knife tremblingly, his lips quivering as he spoke.

Unfortunately, Howling Heaven ignored him completely; it only faithfully carried out Chen Changsheng’s orders.

Howling Heaven, which had been pacing slowly, suddenly accelerated, and in the next moment, the trembling Liu Ergou also met the fate of a severed arm!

”How should I deal with them?”

Chen Changsheng looked at the three men before him, who had lost the ability to fight back, and fell into deep thought. Could they serve as a means to strike back at Liu Jinshan?

At this moment, Liu Ergou and the other two were finally afraid. They had no guts to begin with, and seeing Howling Heaven’s cold, beastly eyes, they were terrified of being bitten to death and hurriedly knelt to beg for mercy!

”Brother Chen, no... Master Chen, it was our mistake. Please, in your greatness, don’t hold a grudge against us lesser beings and spare us this once!”

”We will never dare to do this again, and in the future, we will listen to everything you say...”

The three terrified thugs knelt on the ground, weeping bitterly. As Chen Changsheng was still thinking, he heard Chuanwen’s sinister voice from the side.

”Father, don’t let them off. You must cut weeds and eliminate the roots! Besides, they know Howling Heaven’s secret!”

”Big brother, kill them!”

Chen Chuanwu, who was standing to the side, looked up at Chen Changsheng. Seeing no reaction, he assumed his father was tacitly agreeing with his younger brother.

Moreover, in his impression, his father was an honest man who probably couldn’t handle the bloody work of killing people.

So, he immediately raised his club and smashed each of the three men on the head with a heavy blow. He used so much force that their skulls were shattered to pieces!

Chen Changsheng’s mouth couldn’t help but twitch. The vicious second son made the decisions, and the fierce eldest son did the killing; the more he looked at these two, the less they seemed like good people.

”Alright... hurry up and bury them on the mountain behind us. Don’t make the courtyard bloody, and you two clean it up tonight!”

Chen Changsheng thought that with someone like Liu Ergou, he wouldn’t be able to get to Liu Jinshan anyway. Besides, they knew about Howling Heaven’s strength, so if they died, they died!

He believed that since Liu Jinshan’s plan had failed this time, he would be suspicious and cautious in his dealings, which could buy the Family some time to develop in peace.

Having figured this out, Chen Changsheng went back to the house to comfort his wife and then lay down to sleep. With Howling Heaven around, he slept exceptionally soundly.

The next morning, when Chen Changsheng woke up, he saw his two sons cautiously trying to please Howling Heaven with bones, but Howling Heaven was very aloof and ignored them completely.

Chen Changsheng whistled at Howling Heaven. Howling Heaven raised its tail, trotted over, and rubbed against Chen Changsheng’s leg.

”Haha, good dog!”

After feeding Howling Heaven, Chen Changsheng ignored his two sons’ resentful gazes and let Howling Heaven go run wild on the mountain.

After sending his eldest son to Master Wang’s house for martial arts training, Chen Changsheng led his Family in practicing the ”Five Elements Origin Cultivation Art”!

The progress of their training was still as slow as a turtle crawling, and Chen Changsheng felt that this wouldn’t do.

So, he wrapped up five hundred taels of silver in a bundle and went to the county town to buy medicine!

The medicinal supplements had to keep up; otherwise, he wouldn’t reach the Innate stage even if he died!

The preparation of the Five Elements formula was very simple; you just needed one portion of medicinal herbs for each of the Five Elements, and the older the herbs, the better the efficacy!

Chen Changsheng headed straight for the largest traditional Chinese medicine shop in the county town—Shengyuan Pharmacy.

”Shopkeeper, what kind of Five Elements medicinal herbs do you have here?”

With money in his pocket, Chen Changsheng felt bold and looked like he was ready for a big shopping spree.

The Shopkeeper was an old man with a goatee. He glanced at Chen Changsheng sideways and slowly took out a list.

He knew as soon as he heard him that Chen Changsheng was a novice who didn’t understand anything. Almost all medicinal herbs belonged to the Five Elements, and 99% of the herbs in his shop were related to the Five Elements.

So, he just took out his inventory list and showed it to Chen Changsheng.

”Whoa! So many!”

Chen Changsheng was a bit surprised, then picked up the list and started reading. The more he read, the more cold sweat appeared on his face.

Iron-Leaf Flower, Five Elements Metal attribute, 50 years old, price 50 taels!

Red Flame Fruit, Five Elements Fire attribute, 78 years old, price 120 taels!

...

After looking at a few of the herbs on the list, Chen Changsheng’s heart was about to jump out of his chest. At these prices, his five hundred taels wouldn’t last long at all!

”This is way too expensive!”

Chen Changsheng couldn’t help but ask. The old man with the goatee only then said with a chuckle:

”The price of medicinal herbs depends on their age. Flip to the last page and look; a three-year Iron-Leaf Flower is only ten taels of silver!”

Chen Changsheng glanced at the old man, realizing he was trying to tease him, probably because he had been a bit arrogant earlier.

Looking at the back of the inventory list, the prices of the herbs were indeed much more reasonable.

Three to five-year-old Five Elements herbs were basically around ten taels of silver.

However, Chen Changsheng still felt it was expensive because he needed a lot of herbs. After all, with his Aptitude, one bowl of formula a day might not even be enough.

One bowl of Five Elements formula would cost dozens of taels of silver!

”Ahem, old man, I wonder how much the seeds for these herbs cost?”

Chen Changsheng asked the Shopkeeper with a cheeky smile.

”Oh, seeds are cheap. You can buy hundreds for one tael of silver!”

The idea of growing his own herbs immediately sprang up in Chen Changsheng’s mind; after all, he still had half a mountain of space sitting empty.

Besides, he was still thinking about the ”spiritual plant manual” in the Family Treasure Trove!

Once he redeemed that thing, growing some herbs wouldn’t even be an issue!

So, Chen Changsheng waved his hand, picked out five types of Five Elements medicinal herb seeds, and spent fifty taels to buy them.

He then spent another one hundred and fifty taels to buy five types of three-to-five-year-old Five Elements herbs, intending to go home and try refining medicine.

Chen Changsheng returned home, headed straight to the kitchen, and took out a large iron pot.

He lit the fire, controlled the temperature, and then, following the knowledge in his memory, began to refine the Five Elements formula!

The first time, the heat was wrong, and the herbs burned!

The second time, the order in which the herbs were put into the pot was wrong, and the final color didn’t match the description!

...

After failing five times, Chen Changsheng took a deep breath, picked up the last portion of herbs, and operated with extreme caution.

The heat was fine.

The medicinal properties were fine!

The color was fine!

Finally!

Chen Changsheng refined a successful batch of the formula; he was so excited he almost flipped the pot over!

”As a respectable graduate student in Traditional Chinese Medicine in my past life, I was almost stumped by a simple herbal formula... This is fucking difficult!”

Chen Changsheng looked at the pot of Five Elements formula before him and let out a long sigh. Then, he took out an empty bowl, filled it, and said excitedly:

”After so much effort, I finally got you done—five elements soup, let me test your effects!”
