Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 746: Chapter 740: Buying Books

An Hao thought for a moment before speaking: “My grandfather likes to drink, my father-in-law likes tea, and my mother-in-law likes to read.”

“Alright, then let’s buy gifts according to your suggestions, so everyone’s preferences are considered.” Qin Xue didn’t know this beforehand, otherwise she could have just taken a bottle of peach blossom wine from her storage space. There would be no need to buy anything.

She did have various types of wine for different purposes, so even just taking wine as a gift for visiting should be fine.

“Just buy something casual, where can we find something suitable on such short notice?” An Hao also didn’t know what to buy. It’s not that she didn’t know where to buy things, but those items were expensive, and she was worried that Qin Xue couldn’t afford them.

“How can we be casual about this? Even if it’s not too expensive, it can’t be too shabby either.” Qin Xue just wanted to buy some gifts, which she should be able to afford.

If worst comes to worst, she could sell some of the medicine pills she made for emergency money. She believed that in such a large Imperial Capital, there would definitely be people who recognize their value.

...
“Alright, then let’s go to South Street.” An Hao suggested after listening to Qin Xue. There are all kinds of things there, and if you’re lucky, you might even make a fortune.

That’s because there are also antique shops there. As long as you’re lucky, it’s possible to find something valuable.

However, they weren’t looking for antiques right now. So they just needed to go to South Street and buy what they needed. As for the rest, they could come back when they had time to browse and shop. That way, they could spend an entire day shopping.

Qin Xue, holding her child, followed An Hao to South Street. South Street was so named because it housed goods from all over the world. On one side were the refined items favored by scholars and poets, and on the other were the antiques favored by merchants. Some of the shops had been around for a long time, and it was hard to know what was inside.

Qin Xue switched arms to hold her child, realizing that it was inconvenient to hold her baby like this while shopping. It seemed she would need to use a stroller or a baby carrier when she got home. Holding her baby like this was too tiring and wouldn’t last very long.

The three adults and two children entered an antique bookstore. As they entered the somewhat quaint and antique store, Qin Xue immediately sensed the fragrance of ink. This scent was very comforting. Qin Xue looked at the books on the shelves and wondered what type of books Mrs. Li liked.

“An Hao, do we pick and buy the books here ourselves or do we borrow them?” Qin Xue asked, as she noticed that no one came up to ask them what kind of books they wanted. She assumed that they should pick the books themselves, but since she had never visited before, she wasn’t sure. It was better to ask An Hao.

“You pick and buy them yourself. Go ahead and choose.” An Hao replied.

“Alright, then I’ll go take a look. Do you and Chu Xiaoqiao want to pick out a few books as well?” Qin Xue asked An Hao and Chu Xiaoqiao. Reading books could improve one’s taste and help them gain more knowledge; it would also enhance their temperament. Reading more books was always a good thing.

“We can choose our own and then come back together to pay for them.” An Hao thought that since she had nothing to do at home, it would be nice to buy a book to read.

“Alright, let’s split up and pick out the books we want to buy. That should be faster.” Qin Xue suggested, and the other two had no objections.

Qin Xue ran her fingers over the rows of books until her finger stopped on a collection of essays and short stories. She pulled the book out and sat down on a nearby chair, flipping through it. In no time, she was captivated by the content.

She began to read page by page, her emotions fluctuating along with the characters in the book. She was so engrossed that she didn’t even notice when An Hao came to find her.
