Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 730: Chapter 724: Jing Yuan’s Thoughts

Jing Yuan couldn’t let her elder brother be mocked by others; she couldn’t ruin him, so she endured the heartache as she watched her brother marry another woman. That night, she hid outside the window of their bridal chamber, listening to her brother’s amorous entanglement with his newlywed wife along with the blush-inducing, heart-pounding pants and moans inside. Her heart ached as if it were bleeding when she heard it.

But she didn’t want to leave, so she squatted there, covering her mouth, crying silently, listening and shedding tears. She imagined that the woman pressed beneath her brother was her, Jing Yuan, being tenderly caressed by him. She listened for as long as they persisted in the room throughout the entire night. She didn’t return to her own room until daybreak.

Later, she was happy when she learned that her brother could not stay at home for more than a few days, which meant he could not continue showing affection to that woman.

However, not long after, the news of her brother’s death arrived, and she became distraught, blaming the tragedy on that woman. After all, her brother had been a soldier for so many years, taking on countless missions without trouble. Why did disaster strike right after his marriage? So, Jing Yuan secretly made trouble for Fang Xiu, and her efforts were instrumental in banishing Fang Xiu from the Jings’ house.

After they joined forces to expel Fang Xiu, Jing Yuan tried various ways to win her father’s affection. Indeed, her perseverance paid off; she gradually caught her father’s attention and her life improved.

However, just as she was about to escape the shadow of her deceased brother, news came that he was not dead and had already returned. She wanted to find him, but somehow, her second brother, Jing Peng, discovered her intention and threatened not to tell their family about her love for her elder brother. Jing Yuan couldn’t fathom how her well-guarded secret became known to others.

...
After thinking it over, she surmised the only possible slip-up could have been when she got drunk on the night she learned of her brother’s death and perhaps inadvertently spilled the beans.

Jing Yuan knew that her love was untenable in this world, so she resisted the yearning in her heart and did not look for him. Little did she expect, she would see the one she had been longing for today. One can only imagine how delighted she must have been. Yet, her heart ached at hearing his words: Why couldn’t she be his wife? Why did they have to be siblings?

Jing Yuan stared at Jing Xin somewhat infatuated; her elder brother was still as handsome and gentle as ever. Her heartbeat thudded wildly, almost leaping out of her chest. She covered her heart with her hands and lowered her head. She could not let him notice her strangeness, for fear that he would avoid seeing her in the future.

“Yuanyuan, what’s wrong?” Jing Xin asked, looking at Jing Yuan, who was covering her chest and not speaking.

“Elder brother, I’m fine. I’m just so happy that you are back safe and sound,” Jing Yuan bit her lip, suppressing her emotions before slowly speaking.

“Silly girl, I have to go back to work now. You behave at home and don’t upset Mother, or you will get scolded again. Understood?” Jing Xin patted her head and exhorted her.

“Yes, I know. Elder brother, rest assured. I will protect myself and won’t let myself be bullied again,” Jing Yuan looked up at the man she had loved for years. How she wished to tell him that she loved him. But she couldn’t. Not only she couldn’t, but she also couldn’t let anyone else besides Jing Peng know. Otherwise, she couldn’t foresee the consequences.

“Alright, I’m going back. Your sister-in-law doesn’t even know I took the day off. I’ll stop by to see her and the baby before I head back. I can’t be late,” Jing Xin released his hand and glanced at the hidden figure before turning around and leaving, leaving Jing Yuan gazing after him.
