Global Grave Digging: My Reward Increased Ten Thousand Times

143: Lin Fei’s idea was to attack the nest directly. The metal door of the elevator closed.

Accompanied by a slight tremor and the roar of mechanical operation.

The elevator began to ascend towards the surface world.

The atmosphere was heavy; the veterans in the team were silently checking their weapons and equipment.

For these years, people in the underground city rarely went out, except to travel to other cities.

One reason was that the outside was dangerous, and another was that the radiation outside was relatively high, which was bad for the body if one stayed too long.

Lin Mengzi took a deep breath. It was not easy to find Third Sister Lu Zhifei in the vast sea of people.

She and Lin Fei needed to accomplish some deeds, preferably enough to attract Third Sister’s attention.

Lin Fei was looking at the System prompts. After volunteering to join the pursuit team, both he and his sister had triggered new missions.

【You have accepted a new mission! Pursue the Zerg reconnaissance unit and stop them from bringing intelligence about Steel Bone City back to the Zerg nest.】

So that was it. There wasn’t a clear mission initially, but after making certain choices or encountering certain events, missions would be triggered.

A moment later, a shrill alarm sounded briefly.

A heavy metallic scraping sound came from the top of the elevator.

The destination had arrived.

”Boom—”

Amidst a low roar that sounded like a sleeping giant beast waking up.

The huge gate disguised as ordinary rock above everyone’s heads slowly slid open to both sides.

Blinding yet somewhat bleak sunlight shone into the enclosed space, illuminating everyone’s faces.

Outside, there was a scorched smell mixed with sulfur and dust.

That was the smell of the surface world.

Decaying, dilapidated, sorrowful, and carrying some radiation.

Lin Fei was the first to step out of the elevator, setting foot on the scorched earth that had long been devastated by war.

Looking around, everything in sight was broken walls and ruins, collapsed bridges, and high-rise buildings snapped in half, their glass now completely shattered, revealing the concrete walls beneath.

The sky presented an eerie dark red, as if stained by endless blood.

”So this is the surface!”

Lin Mengzi followed behind Lin Fei, sighing softly as she looked at the apocalyptic scene before her.

”Indeed, this is the surface. It’s completely different from the world you were familiar with when you were children, isn’t it?”

”The Zerg devour all the nutrients of a planet. This used to be a wetland park, but now it has all disappeared.”

The yellow sand whistled, creating a sense of desolation and sorrow.

”Speaking of which, why is the shell of this Zerg vanguard so hard?” a veteran asked.

”Perhaps they stole the genes of some other race again. These predators are simply the cancer of the planet!”

High Commander said while speaking.

He took a small reconnaissance drone out of his tactical backpack.

With his skilled operation, the drone buzzed and ascended, speeding in the direction where the Zerg had fled.

The high-definition camera carried by the drone transmitted real-time images to the tactical terminal screen on High Commander’s wrist.

”Found them!”

High Commander frowned slightly, pointing at the red dots moving at high speed on the screen.

”Those damn bugs are fast; they’ve already escaped dozens of kilometers away! Their target should be the abandoned city three hundred kilometers to the east. That is a Zerg stronghold.”

Hearing this, the other veterans’ expressions turned ugly.

At a distance of dozens of kilometers, the speed of these bugs was too fast; it really wouldn’t be easy to catch up!

And once they entered that abandoned city and joined up with the main force of the hive, the location of Steel Bone City would be completely exposed.

”Let’s go!”

High Commander made a prompt decision and waved his hand.

In the whole squad, some drove armored vehicles, and some rode motorcycles.

Dust rolled as they launched the pursuit.

On this wasteland, apart from the whistling wind, there was not a trace of life.

Occasionally, one could see the remains of some huge mutated creatures that had been gnawed down to their skeletons.

The Zerg didn’t just devour humans; they would eat every living thing they saw.

However, after chasing for about an hour, the red dots in the drone’s footage suddenly disappeared.

”What’s going on?” a veteran asked in confusion.

High Commander’s face darkened, and he manipulated the drone to increase the radar wave scan.

”Damn it! These bugs burrowed underground!”

The screen showed a deep, newly dug cave leading underground amidst a pile of collapsed architectural ruins.

”Those cunning Zerg scouts must have realized from the beginning that their vanguard officer was killed by us.”

”So from the very beginning, they were moving at full speed.”

”Now they’ve found a pre-dug hole, which makes it even harder to catch them.”

”Damn! These damn bugs! Don’t they lack intelligence?” a hot-tempered veteran spat fiercely.

”The captain of the reconnaissance unit has a certain level of intelligence.”

”How cunning!”

These bugs, when they have a leader, are loyal, death-defying soldiers. If the intelligent leader in the team dies, they become killing machines that follow instinct.

Truth be told, such a race is indeed powerful, but it’s a pity that their existence is only for destruction, with no civilization to speak of.

”It seems the trail is broken.” Another veteran sighed, his tone filled with helplessness.

The pursuit mission seemed to have reached a stalemate.

The other team members also looked dejected, their morale somewhat low.

Just then, Lin Fei spoke up.

”High Commander, in my opinion, since these bugs will inevitably return to that stronghold, instead of searching for them here, why don’t we take the initiative?”

”Wouldn’t it solve everything once and for all if we directly attacked their nest and uprooted that stronghold?”

”After all, they are going to return to that place to report the news anyway.”

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone was stunned.

High Commander frowned even more and said in a deep voice: ”Brother Lin Fei, your idea is very bold, but that is the Zerg nest! It must be heavily guarded, and there might even be higher-level Zerg commanders sitting in command. The number of Zerg inside is immeasurable. Attacking rashly is no different from throwing an egg against a rock!”

”That’s right! We were already afraid of their attacks, so how could we dare to take the initiative to attack them!” said a veteran.

In the perception of these underground city residents, the Zerg nest was almost synonymous with a Forbidden Ground, a terrifying place they absolutely dared not step into easily.

Lin Fei smiled slightly, pointing at himself and then at Meng Zi beside him.

”High Commander, I think you still underestimate the strength of me and my sister.”

During the previous battle outside Steel Bone City, although Lin Fei and Lin Mengzi displayed strength far exceeding ordinary super-powered individuals, at that time they were in the underground city, and the two of them didn’t dare to use their full power, fearing they would destroy the city.

High Commander looked at Lin Fei’s confident, perhaps even arrogant eyes, and his heart couldn’t help but stir.

He remembered the terrifying dark lightning spear that had instantly annihilated the Zerg vanguard unit like a miracle, as well as the scene where he summoned a skeletal Dragon to sweep across the battlefield.

These two young people were shrouded in a veil of mystery, making it impossible for people to see where their limits were.

”Perhaps, we really could give it a try?”

A crazy idea sprouted quietly in High Commander’s heart.

A frontal attack on a Zerg stronghold was an unprecedented feat in the history of Steel Bone City.

The risks were huge, but once successful, the benefits and merits brought would also be immeasurable!

If a Zerg stronghold could be destroyed, it would not only completely eliminate the security threat to Steel Bone City but also demonstrate the strength of Steel Bone City to other giant cities of the Interstellar Alliance.

By then, Steel Bone City would receive more resource allocation and strategic support.

And Lin Fei and Lin Mengzi, these two young people who displayed shocking strength, would inevitably receive the attention of the high-level officials of the giant city, gaining opportunities to develop on a broader stage.

This was a choice that could change the fate of Steel Bone City, and also change their own personal fates.

High Commander took a deep breath, his gaze slowly scanning the faces of Lin Fei and Lin Mengzi.

”Are you really sure you want to go there?”

Lin Fei: ”Of course, otherwise they will come over eventually, won’t they?”

That made sense.

It’s just that going like this, isn’t it too risky?

Do Lin Fei and Lin Mengzi really have the strength to deal with the Zerg in a nest? Even if it was just a Zerg stronghold.

”Or my sister and I can go by ourselves; you just need to leave me a contact terminal.”

”How can that be? Let you two young people go on an adventure.”

Finally, he slammed his thigh and said in a deep voice: ”Hoo! Brother Lin Fei! Since you dare to say it, then I, High Commander, dare to go crazy with you once!”

”As for the others, those who want to go can come with us, and those who don’t want to go can return on the spot.”

”There is no mandatory requirement this time.”
