From American Internet Celebrity to God Among Men

28: Chapter 28 Beverly Hills Nights and New RulesThe feedback on the rough cut of the complete short film for ”echo gallery” arrived faster than expected.

Allison’s email was worded rigorously, yet satisfaction permeated between the lines: ”Core members of Taylor’s team have watched the rough cut, and the feedback is positive. They approve of your visualization of the song’s emotional arc, especially the way the themes of ’Traces’ and ’Absence’ are woven throughout, which they believe gives the music a new dimension of contemplation. Specific revision suggestions are attached; most are technical fine-tuning, with no disruptive changes. Please proceed with the fine cut and post-production accordingly.”

The email attachment contained a well-organized list of revisions, ranging from subtle adjustments to the color grading of a certain shot to suggestions for optimizing the rhythm of two transitions. It was professional and restrained, yet the weight of the approval was substantial.

After reading it carefully, Alex breathed a sigh of relief. The most crucial creative core had been affirmed; the rest was just about polishing to perfection. He integrated the revision suggestions into his work plan, feeling that the path ahead was clear and solid.

Almost simultaneously, the system prompt sounded gently in his consciousness:

【High-value art project ’Core Creation’ detected as having received deep professional recognition from a key target.】

【’Core Influence’ is converting...】

【Obtained ’Core Influence’: 28 points.】

【Current ’Core Influence’: 98 points.】

The dark gold scale surged upward, just one step away from the 100-point mark. This growth stemmed purely from the art creation itself being affirmed by the most discerning ”insiders,” giving Alex a sense of achievement more pure and solid than any before. These 98 points of ”Core Influence” were earned, frame by frame, through his tangible work.

Work was progressing smoothly, the system rewards were in place, and Alex felt both his body and mind were in a positive state. He decided to relax a little and clear his head.

One evening a few days later, he was invited to a larger-scale crossover social cocktail party held at a gallery in Beverly Hills. Guests included tech upstarts, art agents, independent producers, and heads of niche brands; the atmosphere was more open and casual than the intimate dinner at the Watson residence.

Alex was dressed appropriately but not stiffly. Perception Sharpening allowed him to easily weave between different small circles, capturing useful information and interesting people. He chatted with a director of immersive theater about spatial narrative, exchanged views with an investor focused on the concept of ”digital heritage,” and listened to a niche perfume founder talk about how to build memories through scent.

Halfway through the cocktail party, he stood by the terrace with a glass in hand, admiring the night view of the city in the distance. A figure walked up beside him.

”The view from here always makes one feel the illusion of possessing the entire city, doesn’t it?” The voice was clear, carrying a touch of nonchalant elegance.

Alex turned his head. It was a woman, looking to be twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, with flaxen-blonde hair loosely tied up, revealing a graceful neck and a well-defined jawline. She wore a minimalist black slip dress that accentuated her fair skin and exquisite figure. Her appearance possessed a delicate, mixed-heritage quality, and her gaze was intelligent with a hint of detached scrutiny. She held a champagne glass, her eyes also fixed on the distant lights.

”The view is free; possession is an illusion.” Alex smiled in return and raised his glass.

The woman turned her head to look at him directly, the corners of her lips curling into a faint arc: ”Very clear-headed. You are one of the few people tonight who wasn’t in a rush to hand me a business card or talk about their own projects. Alex Su, right? The builder of ’Wonder World.’ I’m Alisa, and I suppose I’m... an observer of the art market and an occasional participant.” Her way of introducing herself hinted that her background might be deeper than it sounded.

”Observers often see more clearly than participants,” Alex said. He could sense that Alisa was completely different from Megan by the pool earlier. Her attraction came from the clearly visible intelligence, experience, and an innate certainty about her own charm beneath her beauty. She approached him out of curiosity rather than predatory intent; it was more like a probe to recognize a fellow kind.

”I caught a few glimpses of your ’echo gallery’ rough cut through a certain channel,” Alisa’s tone was very casual, as if she were talking about the weather, ”Quiet, but very powerful. Not the kind of blustering power. Mr. Watson’s assessment of you is very apt.” When she mentioned Richard Watson, her tone was familiar.

”Thank you. It seems the observer’s channels are very well-informed.” Alex maintained a hint of appropriate vigilance, but he was not without interest. Conversations with smart people were always more interesting.

They leaned against the terrace railing and started chatting. The topics ranged from the disparate art ecosystem of Los Angeles to the impact of technology on classical aesthetic concepts, and then to the quirky museums they had encountered during their travels. Alisa was knowledgeable, with sharp but not mean-spirited remarks, and was always able to pick up on the points Alex threw out and extend them into more unexpected angles. This was an attraction intertwined with intellect and charm.

”You are not quite like those other young creators who are busy ’building their personal brands’,” Alisa tilted her head slightly to look at him, her eyes somewhat hazy in the night, ”You seem... very clear about how the system operates, and even a bit happy to play your own game on the edge of the rules. This sense of detachment is rare at your age.”

Alex felt a slight stir in his heart, but his expression remained calm: ”Perhaps I am just more interested in the ’building’ itself, rather than being in a rush to move into a room that has already been defined.”

Alisa smiled, and this time the smile was more genuine: ”A very good metaphor. So, excellent builder, are you interested in leaving this slightly noisy construction site to find a truly quiet place and have a drink that doesn’t feel like a social prop? I know a jazz bar nearby with a great pianist, and almost no one talks loudly.”

Her invitation was direct, confident, and provided clear, attractive options (quiet, good music, escaping the current occasion). This was a tacit signal between adults, based on mutual attraction and shared interests.

Alex looked at her. Alisa was beautiful, smart, interesting, and clearly wouldn’t bring the kind of trouble that ”Megan by the pool” did. She was like an exquisite dessert, just right, nurtured by this bustling world; she understood the rules of the game and knew when to exit.

Mental Pillar allowed him to clearly evaluate all of this. He was not an ascetic, and he had normal appreciation and desires. After the busy work of creation and climbing, a relaxed, pleasant night without the burden of any subsequent responsibilities sounded very good.

”That sounds like a good proposal.” He put down his glass and made a ”please” gesture.

A flash of knowing amusement crossed Alisa’s eyes; she turned, her skirt tracing an elegant arc. Alex followed, and the two left the still-noisy cocktail party quietly, one after the other.

That night at the jazz bar, the piano music flowed like water. They sat in a dim corner, shared a decent bottle of red wine, continued the interesting topics they hadn’t finished earlier, and occasionally fell into comfortable silence, just listening to the music. What happened afterward followed naturally, taking place in Alisa’s tasteful penthouse apartment in West Hollywood. The view was expansive, and the furnishings were simple and expensive.

The process was pleasant and mutually respectful. Alisa was exactly as she had presented herself: mature, direct, and possessed of superb technique. This was a high-quality sensory enjoyment and intellectual relaxation purely between adults. There was no probing, no promises, and not even much conversation about the future. They said polite goodbyes as the morning light began to glimmer and exchanged contact information, but both knew that this might just be a pleasant drifting apart after an accidental intersection.

Alex drove back to Santa Monica, feeling refreshed as if he had undergone a high-quality mental and physical spa treatment. He appreciated women like Alisa: self-aware, self-consistent, and unentangled. This was more comfortable than any encounter that was green or filled with calculation.

This experience also gave him a new confirmation about himself. He could dive deep into the ocean of art, and he could also relax in the pleasures of the mundane world. As long as the choices were smart enough and the boundaries were clear enough, all of this could become a part of his fulfilling life, rather than a burden or trouble.

Back home, he took a shower and changed back into comfortable loungewear. The system interface appeared automatically, with the dark gold ”98” points floating quietly. He noticed that after experiencing last night, the 【Physical Sublimation】 he had redeemed seemed to be operating more smoothly and freely, with a deep level of energy recovery and a sense of coordination flowing through his body. Even the 【Mental Pillar】 seemed to have undergone a pleasant rest, becoming clearer and more solid.

It turned out that high-quality relaxation that aligned with one’s heart was, in itself, a positive feedback for the foundation of body and mind. Although the system didn’t directly give points, the existing abilities seemed to be telling him: a balanced life is also a powerful cornerstone.

He smiled and closed the system. There was still a lot to do today: the fine cut of ”echo gallery,” the script refinement for the second episode of ”Lost and Found,” and he still had to think about what to film for the next episode of ”MythBusters.”

His phone vibrated; it was Leo from ”Reality Maze,” sending some new AR interaction prototype test invitations, as well as a rather tempting proposal: they were planning an offline experience event for a high-end car brand and needed to design an immersive tour that combined real-world scenery with AR to embody ”speed and elegance.” The budget was high, and he asked if Alex was interested in serving as the visual concept director.

New cooperation, new challenges, new remuneration.

The sun was shining brightly outside the window. Alex drank the last sip of his coffee, tapped his fingers on the keyboard, and began to reply to the email.

His world was steadily expanding between art and commerce, depth and ease, focus and enjoyment. And he had already mastered the method of navigating freely within it and continuously harvesting treasures.
