From American Internet Celebrity to God Among Men

20: Chapter 20 A Clear World, and an Unexpected InvitationPerception Sharpening, 2500 points, redeem.

The moment the redemption was complete, Alex did not close his eyes, but the entire world before him seemed to be re-refracted by a meticulously polished crystal.

In his apartment, he ”heard” the extremely subtle electrical changes when the refrigerator compressor started, and ”smelled” the magnified, fresh fragrance of the mint plant on the windowsill after the morning dew evaporated. The color difference of the book spines on the bookshelf, the micro-dust accumulated in the texture of the wooden floor, the rhythm of the seagulls’ wings flapping outside the window... countless details that had once been ignored flowed into his perception gently and clearly like a tide. This was not information overload, but a highly sensitive state of orderly organization.

What was even more special was his perception of people. When the courier knocked on the door the next morning to deliver the new equipment sent by ”Reality Maze,” the moment before Alex opened the door, he ”felt” the faint exhaustion and subtle coffee scent in that person’s breathing, as well as the pause of a fraction of a second before their fingers were about to touch the door panel. This was not a superpower, but a more delicate interpretation of the world after his senses were magnified to the extreme.

”Thank you.” He took the package and smiled at the courier. The other party froze for a moment, seemingly uncomfortable under his overly clear and calm gaze, nodded hurriedly, and left.

Alex carried this new ”sense” into the filming of the second short film of ”city sound and vision.” This time, he chose a piece of music with a jumping rhythm and an urban jazz style. The filming location was chosen in a historic Spanish-style market square in downtown Los Angeles, full of tourists during the day but returning to silence at night.

When he set up his camera at dusk, the effect of Perception Sharpening showed amazing value in his creation. He could precisely capture how the last ray of sunset faded from the edge of the square fountain, how it cast a fleeting gold in the wrinkles at the corner of an old pottery seller’s eyes; he could ”predict” the trajectory of a flock of pigeons taking flight in fright, adjusting the composition in advance; he could even feel the subtle differences in color temperature reflected by different materials—the roughness of stone steps, the coldness of iron street lamps, the smoothness of the surface of a balloon in a child’s hand—under the twilight.

The filming became like conducting a symphony; he was directing light, color, movement, and every note of the music to align precisely. Those ”decisive moments” that previously required repeated attempts to capture now seemed to rush toward his lens on their own.

When he finished work in the evening, he paused at the entrance of an old record store on the edge of the market. A soothing blues song was playing inside, and an old man with gray hair, looking like the shop owner, had his eyes closed, swaying gently to the rhythm. Alex’s perception keenly captured the subtle misalignment between the beat of the old man’s fingers tapping on the counter and the bass line in the music, as well as the gentle expression of being immersed in memories on his face. He didn’t take a photo; he just stood quietly for a moment, storing this scene in his heart.

A few days later, ”city sound and vision · Twilight and Syncopation” was released. The video continued the quiet narrative of the series, but the rhythm was more agile, and the capture of light and shadow was amazing. The comment section was once again flooded with praise:

”The blogger’s control over light is simply magic! That shot of the pigeons taking flight, the timing made my soul leave my body!”

”The coordination between music and visuals is getting more and more exquisite... Is this really something I can watch for free?”

”From the explosive ’Data Rift’ to the delicacy of ’city sound and vision,’ the blogger’s creative dimension is terrifyingly wide. Subscribing is worth it!”

The number of subscribers steadily crossed the 550,000 mark. The channel’s reputation and influence continued to accumulate.

The day after the video was released, Alex received an official email from Allison of ”Harmony Bridge.” Attached was a detailed ”Music Visualization Experimental Project” letter of intent with confidentiality clauses and a preliminary artist briefing. The briefing mentioned that Taylor Swift’s team was very interested in the direction of ”creating abstract, emotional short visual poetry based on existing songs” and had preliminarily selected three tracks from different albums with different styles for reference. The email emphasized that this was only a preliminary screening, and whether cooperation would eventually be possible depended on the quality of the creative proposal and mutual selection.

Alex carefully read the letter of intent. The terms were rigorous, and the copyright and benefit sharing were clear, showing high professionalism. He did not immediately choose a track, but immersed himself in those three songs, listening repeatedly, and combined with his sharp perception of emotions after Perception Sharpening, he began to conceive the corresponding visual language.

Just as he was immersed in the association between music and images, an unexpected social invitation arrived. It was Mark, the business school classmate he had helped solve the computer ransomware virus.

”Hey, Alex, I didn’t disturb your creative work, did I?” Mark’s voice on the phone was as enthusiastic as ever. ”It’s like this, my cousin, Eric from Silicon Valley, is coming to Los Angeles this weekend to attend a private dinner in the tech venture capital circle. The level is quite high, and those attending are investors, startup bosses, and a few media people in the circle. He knows I’m close to you and asked me if you could come too. He thinks that as the key creative behind the ’Reality Maze’ project and a phenomenal content creator, you are very suitable for this circle. Purely for communication and expanding connections. How about it, are you interested?”

Alex thought for a moment. This kind of high-end small circle gathering, where he could access different levels of information and resources, would be good for his understanding of the cutting-edge dynamics in the intersection of technology and content. ”Sounds good, what time and place?”

The dinner was held at a beach villa in Malibu. There weren’t many people, but as Mark said, everyone had weight. Alex was wearing that custom navy blue suit, the tailored cut perfectly setting off his tall and straight figure after Physical Sublimation, with the calmness bestowed by Mental Pillar in his demeanor. He didn’t deliberately try to be active, but his keen perception allowed him to quickly identify the focus and aura of different people’s conversations, and join the conversation at the right time, speaking with substance.

Eric introduced him to several investors who were concerned about ”immersive experiences” and ”future content forms.” Alex talked about his practice and thoughts on AR real-scene creation, with novel angles and solid insights, quickly attracting attention. A middle-aged lady who had invested in several well-known technology companies handed him a private business card after their conversation: ”Alex, your practice of integrating technology and art is very interesting. I have a fund under my name that focuses on the ’experience economy.’ If you have any ideas for more large-scale development in the future, we can talk anytime.”

Halfway through the dinner, the atmosphere became more relaxed. Alex held a glass of water, standing at the edge of the terrace facing the sea. A young woman wearing an exquisite black evening dress and bright makeup walked over with champagne. Alex remembered she seemed to be the deputy editor of a certain tech media.

”Alex Su? I’ve heard a lot about you.” Her smile was generous, her eyes scanning his face and body undisguisedly, with appreciation, ”Your ’Data Rift’ was discussed in our editorial department for a long time. I didn’t expect you to have more... texture in person than in the video.” Her approach brought a faint perfume scent, and the hints and invitation in her words were straightforward and seemed natural in this occasion.

Perception Sharpening allowed Alex to clearly capture the interest in her eyes, and behind that interest, it was more of a mix of his ”successful creator” aura and external attractiveness. He responded with a polite smile, raising the water glass in his hand: ”Thank you. Your tech column’s perspective is also very unique.” He cleverly steered the topic to the other party’s professional field, responding to the compliment while maintaining distance.

The editor-in-chief understood his attitude, her smile remained unchanged, but the topic turned to more industry-related content. After chatting for a few sentences, she left gracefully to socialize with others. This was a tacit little probe and boundary confirmation between adults.

When the dinner ended, Mark and Eric sent him out. Eric patted his shoulder: ”Good performance. Those big shots all have a very good impression of you. In this kind of circle, getting a familiar face and planting the seeds of impression is more important than negotiating anything on the spot.”

On the way back to Santa Monica, the night was deep. Alex reviewed his gains tonight: new potential resources, a glimpse into the rules of the game at a higher level, and another confirmation of his ”way of existence” in different occasions. Perception Sharpening allowed him to ruminate on those subtle interactions and unspoken signals more clearly afterwards.

Returning to the apartment, he first checked the system. Popularity was steadily recovering, and new creative and social activities brought continuous income.

He opened his computer and clicked on the three Taylor Swift songs provided by ”Harmony Bridge” again. Closing his eyes, he let the melody flow. Under the dual effect of Perception Sharpening and Creative Source Protection, listening became unprecedentedly profound. He didn’t just listen to the melody and lyrics, but captured the subtle emotions of loneliness, courage, memories, and growth flowing in the songs.

Gradually, some images began to emerge in his mind, tightly intertwined with a certain melody and a certain lyric. It wasn’t a specific narrative, but a texture of color, an atmosphere, and a movement.

He opened his eyes, opened a document, and began to write a preliminary visual creative proposal for one of the songs. He discarded all complex technical descriptions and grand concepts, focusing only on capturing and depicting the most primitive, most personal visual ”heartbeat” triggered directly by the music.

The night was very deep. The hustle and bustle of the city had long since subsided.

In the quiet room with only music and thoughts, a reborn person from the East was trying to use all his enhanced perception and creativity to touch a corner of the soul in the works of a Western music diva, and was preparing to use his unique visual language to respond.

In the first line of the proposal, he wrote: ”When the melody becomes the only lighthouse, in the mist of memory, I see...”
