Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures

Harry was furious about the missed goal.

McLaggen had a hundred reasons to have stopped it, if he’d just focused a little and stopped worrying about what everyone else was doing.

“McLaggen, will you pay attention to what you’re supposed to be doing and leave everyone else alone!” bellowed Harry, wheeling around to face his Keeper.

“You’re not setting a good example!” McLaggen shouted back, red-faced and furious.

“And Harry Potter’s now having an argument with his Keeper,” said Luna serenely, while both Hufflepuffs and Slytherins below in the crowd cheered and jeered. “I don’t think that’ll help him find the Snitch, but maybe it’s a clever ruse. …”

Evan let out a helpless sigh. Thanks to Luna’s commentary, everyone now noticed that Harry and McLaggen were arguing.

Such things during a match really affected morale.

Swearing angrily, Harry spun round.

He decided to ignore McLaggen, urged his Firebolt onward, and set off around the pitch again, scanning the skies for some sign of the tiny, winged golden ball.

The game continued, but McLaggen was still focusing most of his energy on bossing everyone around.

He kept criticizing his teammates, saying what they shouldn’t do, what they should’ve done differently.

Because of his constant commands and criticisms, the other players were increasingly disgruntled and tried to stay away from the goalposts.

With no one helping to defend, it wasn’t long before Hufflepuff scored two more goals.

The game was almost completely one-sided. Finally, ten minutes in, Demelza scored a goal under Ginny’s protection, giving the red-and-gold-clad supporters below something to cheer about, but Luna didn’t seem to have noticed.

She appeared singularly uninterested in such mundane things as the score, and kept attempting to draw the crowd’s attention to such things as interestingly shaped clouds and the possibility that Zacharias Smith, who had so far failed to maintain possession of the Quaffle for longer than a minute, was suffering from something called “Loser’s Lurgy,” though in fact it was just that Elaine had been marking him too tightly for him to do anything.

In Evan’s opinion, Gryffindor’s tactics in this game had become a mess — if there were any tactics at all.

“Seventy-thirty to Hufflepuff!” barked Professor McGonagall into Luna’s megaphone.

“Is it, already?” said Luna vaguely. “Oh, look! The Gryffindor Keeper’s got hold of Ginny’s bat.”

Hearing her words, Harry spun around in midair. Sure enough, McLaggen, for reasons best known to himself, had pulled Ginny’s bat from her and appeared to be demonstrating how to hit a Bludger toward an oncoming Cadwallader. ꞦÁΝÒＢĘș

“I know how to play, give me the bat,” Ginny shouted.

“Will you give her back her bat and get back to the goal posts!” roared Harry, pelting toward McLaggen just as McLaggen took a ferocious swipe at the Bludger , and it went flying.

Whether it was on purpose or not, the Bludger slammed straight into Harry’s head, causing him to stagger and fall from a high altitude.

The sudden turn of events stunned everyone. Ginny immediately dove on her broomstick, racing toward the falling Harry.

The match had turned into a complete mess, and once the crowd realized what was happening, a wave of booing erupted from the stands. Some of the Hufflepuff and Slytherin students, however, cheered instead. The Gryffindor players all flew over to Harry to check on his injuries.

Before Madam Hooch could call for a timeout, Hufflepuff quickly took advantage of the chaos and scored three more goals.

Before the professors could even decide what to do, things on Gryffindor’s side had devolved into a brawl.

In full view of the crowd, Elaine charged at McLaggen with her bat raised. But McLaggen had no intention of backing down. He shouted loudly and swung his bat to fight with Elaine and the players who had come to back her up.

He was already physically stronger than the average student, not to mention that the Gryffindor team was mainly composed of girls. McLaggen did not hold back just because his opponent was a girl, nor did he seem to feel the slightest guilt over what had happened to Harry. The fight quickly became one-sided — Elaine, Ginny, and Ritchie Coote all took some heavy blows from his bat.

The audience was completely stunned by this development.

Good heavens — aside from the frail Coote, all of his opponents were girls!

And yet he still went after them like that?

Furious beyond belief, Elaine turned her broomstick and flew up to the stands, stopping beside Evan to take the wand that had once belonged to Salazar Slytherin himself. The wand greatly enhanced magic, and after the vampire incident, Caresius had entrusted it to Elaine. However, she usually used her own wand and kept this one in Evan’s care.

Evan handed her the wand and climbed onto the back of her broomstick. Together, they flew back into the field.

“Calm down, Elaine, it’s not worth —” Evan started, but before he could finish, he saw Elaine cast a terrifying spell at McLaggen. A strange red light struck him, and from the point of impact, blood began to drain rapidly from his body.

McLaggen was terrified. His face turned deathly pale as he realized his body was rapidly shriveling.

It was only then that he seemed to understand Elaine was a vampire. But by then, he didn’t have the strength or time to beg for mercy.

If Evan hadn’t intervened just in time, McLaggen would have been drained dry and turned into a withered corpse in a matter of seconds…

As awful as McLaggen had been, using a spell like that on him was way too reckless on Elaine’s part.

In the end, Evan cast a Stunning Spell on him. Luckily, the situation wasn’t beyond repair — McLaggen had only lost a lot of blood. If Elaine had used an Unforgivable Curse or some truly lethal Dark magic, Evan would’ve had to take much more serious measures.

When Professor McGonagall rushed onto the field, the unconscious Harry and the seriously injured McLaggen were sent to the hospital wing. Elaine was sent off the field. Professor McGonagall randomly found a few students to continue the game. The final result could be imagined.

Seriously, what was up with today’s chaotic mess of a match?

Evan did not go to the hospital wing with the others to check on Harry. He waited outside Professor McGonagall’s office until Elaine came out. He was relieved after confirming that the school only punished her with detention, and then he lectured Elaine…

“Alright, alright, I know I was wrong! Stop going on about it already. That guy hit me first,” said Elaine, aggrieved. “And I am getting detention from Professor McGonagall.”

“Just one day. If it had been anyone else, the punishment would’ve been far more serious,” said Evan. “If your spell had succeeded — if that guy had died, you would’ve been expelled from Hogwarts, and maybe even sentenced to Azkaban by the Ministry of Magic.”
