Reborn in the 90s with a Space: Winning Back My Husband

「In a hidden location.」

Lu Cheng lay prone on the ground, closely observing the target ahead. The moment anyone made a move on the target, his team would act immediately.

”All units, on alert.”

”Yes.”

「Half an hour later.」

”Group leader, the assailant moving on the target has been apprehended. The target is secure.”

”The mission is almost over. Maintain final defensive positions.”

”Yes, sir.”

His subordinate acknowledged the order and left. Lu Cheng gazed into the distance.

’It’s finally over. Wait for me, I’m coming home.’

...

The night train was naturally less noisy than it would be during the day, and the passengers were all a bit drowsy.

Shen Nian had been on the train for several hours and was already getting tired. But since she was alone on a train, she definitely couldn’t fall asleep. The most she could do was lean against the window and doze off for a bit.

After dozing against the window for a while, Shen Nian woke up feeling a little hungry. She opened her bag and took out the food she had prepared beforehand.

However, she had only taken a few bites when she felt a pair of eyes fixed on her.

Looking up, Shen Nian met the wide, watery eyes of a little boy, about seven or eight years old, sitting across from her.

’What a cute little boy!’

Shen Nian then realized that the person in the seat across from her had changed at some point. Now, a middle-aged man was sitting there, holding the cute little boy.

Seeing the little boy staring intently at her, even swallowing a few times, Shen Nian couldn’t help but feel her heart soften. She took out a few more pieces of beef jerky from her bag and offered them to him.

”Little one, are you hungry? Here, have some.”

However, just as she finished speaking, the jerky she was holding out to the boy was violently slapped away.

”What do you think you’re doing?!”

Shen Nian looked up and met the fierce, menacing gaze of the middle-aged man holding the boy.

”I’m sorry, I just saw that your child seemed a little hungry, so I...”

Shen Nian wasn’t angry. She realized she hadn’t been considerate enough. After all, it was normal for him to be wary of food from a stranger.

Still, a father that fierce with such a cute little boy... no matter how she looked at it, something seemed off.

”Mind your own business!”

The man roared at Shen Nian again, then turned the little boy away from her.

”...”

Shen Nian felt a wave of helplessness. ’So much for trying to be nice.’

She wasn’t upset for herself, but the little boy looked so pitifully hungry.

The little boy seemed to have been frightened as well. After the man turned him away, he started to cry.

”Don’t you cry! If you cry again, I’ll hit you!”

After the man yelled at him, the boy no longer dared to cry out loud, whimpering softly instead.

Seeing the boy like this, Shen Nian’s heart ached for him even more.

’How could this child’s father be like this! Always being so fierce with such a young child, threatening to hit him at the drop of a hat. That’s not how a father should act!’

’Wait!’ The moment that thought surfaced, Shen Nian’s heart skipped a beat.

’Could it be... could it be that this vicious man wasn’t the little boy’s father at all?’

’If that was true, then could she have run into a...?’

Once this idea took root, Shen Nian’s gaze toward the ”father and son” across from her became scrutinizing.

With that thought in her mind, Shen Nian found herself increasingly convinced that the two of them didn’t look like father and son.

The idea that he was a child trafficker began to take root and grow in her mind.

Perhaps people of this era didn’t know much about traffickers, but she had lived through a future age. Shen Nian knew exactly how rampant they could be!

’Calm down, calm down,’ she told herself. ’Maybe he isn’t a trafficker.’

’But if he really is a trafficker, what should I do?’

’All I wanted was to go see Lu Cheng. How did I end up in a situation like this?!’

That little boy was so cute and pitiful. If she encountered this and did nothing, Shen Nian knew she would never be able to live with herself.

But she was alone. There was no way she could take on a vicious and desperate trafficker by herself!

Not to mention, she had no idea how many people he was with on this train. What if it was a gang operation?
