God-Level Special Forces Soldier

Chapter 638: Chapter 635: Seizing the Weakness

After taking several deep breaths, Bao Hongfei began to quickly think about how to speak. He hadn’t expected that just one sentence would provoke such a reaction from the other party.

”You have to admit these foreigners’ dogs are really something, being able to communicate with humans!”

Before Bao Hongfei could decide how to start, he heard the disgruntled voices of the elderly entering his ears: ”Why don’t you shed your skin and obediently be a dog, go lick the feet of your foreign master!”

This remark surprised everyone. The old man who had just been silent suddenly became so sharp-tongued?

However, Andrew didn’t see it as a bad thing. Getting that old man to speak at all was a major breakthrough, even if it was cursing—it’s far better than not saying a word!

What he didn’t realize was that if he had let Bao Hongfei handle it from the beginning, they would definitely have gotten this outcome much earlier.

To the Herbalist Elder, people who help foreigners harm their compatriots are no different from those who guided the invaders years ago—traitors who collude with the enemy, the scum among Chinese people.

In some ways, helping invaders against their compatriots is even more hateful than the invaders themselves!

Bao Hongfei listened to the Herbalist Elder’s angry curses, breathing heavily with anger. If he could, he would kill the elder right now, but since Andrew was in charge, no matter how furious, he dared not act on his own accord.

Since the gentle approach doesn’t work and the other party won’t accept my goodwill, it seems other methods must be taken!

Thinking of this, Bao Hongfei’s smile instantly disappeared, replaced by a fierce and vicious expression: ”Old man, I’ll give you one more chance. If you don’t come down by the count of three, then your family...”

Before he could finish, he heard the Herbalist Elder scoff: ”Heh, no need for three counts. I am alone now; if you’re going to act, do it quickly!” Saying this, he held onto the herbs, ready to perish together if it came to it.

Andrew felt a sudden chill in his heart, and his handsome face tightened. He wasn’t completely against Bao Hongfei’s method—as long as he could safely persuade the elder to come down and achieve his goal, he didn’t care what means were used.

Even if Bao Hongfei called the elder his father, as long as the elder came down, it wouldn’t matter to Andrew. He was only worried about the herbs in the elder’s hands!

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have wasted so much time entangling with an old man past his prime.

Based on Isaac’s reference atlas, Andrew confirmed that the ginseng in the Herbalist Elder’s hands was at least a hundred-year-old specimen.

This kind of herb often has a market with more demand than supply overseas, and calculated at a rate of ten thousand a year, it could sell for a million at least.

Of course, Andrew wasn’t a fool. Each time Isaac sold a herb, he’d give him a thirty percent commission on the sale price, otherwise Andrew wouldn’t be so attentive.

Having failed to win over with goodwill and threats, Bao Hongfei’s face began to darken. He simply couldn’t believe there was someone in this world who cared about nothing!

”I suppose you’re quite well-known around here?” Bao Hongfei suddenly smirked mysteriously. Just now, a sudden flash of insight provided him a breakthrough.

Based on the Herbalist Elder’s previous behavior, Bao Hongfei deduced he might be a retired soldier who had been through the military, or at the very least, a fervent patriot; otherwise, he wouldn’t care so much about identifying as a Huaxia Person.

If that’s the case, then he had a plan moving forward.

In mid-air, the old man, whose face was full of resolve, heard Bao Hongfei’s sudden off-the-wall question and saw that cunning smile on the latter’s face. He became vigilant immediately: ”I’m just an old man, what fame could I have?”

The old man’s response further convinced Bao Hongfei that she must indeed be quite famous in this area. Coupled with his judgment that the elder cared about her reputation, he sneered: ”It doesn’t matter if you’re not famous. I can make you famous!”

Seeing the other party remain silent, Bao Hongfei continued speaking with a confident smile: ”From now on, we’ll continue targeting you medicine gatherers.”

”For every one we catch, I’ll ask them: Do you want to know how we found you?” Bao Hongfei deliberately slowed his speech, giving the other party time to digest the information.

After a while, seeing the Herbalist Elder’s expression change, although for a brief moment, Bao Hongfei was sure he was right. He continued: ”Guess what? Do you think they’ll want to know who betrayed them?”

”And I think you can guess how I’ll answer them, can’t you?” With that, Bao Hongfei lit a cigarette: ”Before I finish this cigarette, you can choose to destroy the ginseng with yourself.”

Bao Hongfei blew a smoke ring and added: ”Of course, I’d much prefer you come down yourself, so we can sit down and have a nice chat!”

After saying this, Bao Hongfei stopped speaking and simply smoked the cigarette between his fingers, looking as if he had everything under control.

But as he raised the cigarette to his mouth, the slight tremor of his hand and the sweat in his palms belied his calm demeanor.

Andrew had been observing the Herbalist Elder in mid-air. Seeing him trying hard to control his facial expression, Andrew knew that this might be going somewhere. This Bao Hongfei indeed had some tricks up his sleeve.

The Herbalist Elder’s heart was indeed a bit flustered at this moment, as he had said. His son had left the mountains long ago and only returned once every three or five years.

His wife had also passed away two years ago, leaving him alone—he didn’t care about the other party’s threats.

However, if they ruin his reputation and make him appear as the kind of person he despises most to the world, as a veteran who has carried guns and shed blood, he’d find that more unbearable than death!

Even if all they say are fabrications, he believed some would still believe, and it would spread, eventually leading to his ruin, and he’d be scorned even after death.

People hope to leave a good name after they’re gone. The elder, with a lifetime of uprightness, believed himself faultless to anyone or anything. Losing his good name in the end was something he simply couldn’t accept!

On the other hand, with his worldly experience from military service, he knew full well that if he came down as they wanted, they’d exploit this weakness to keep him under tight control.

The more he cared about his reputation, the more brazen they’d become. It was like walking into the lion’s den!

As Bao Hongfei’s cigarette neared its end, the old man’s gaze became firmer—he had already made up his mind.

...

”That guy looks like he’s only good at buttering up, who knew he’d have such crafty ideas!” Ghost Face couldn’t help but lament, ”Such scum, he brings shame to Huaxia People!”

”Every small person has their way of surviving,” Xiao Tian said lightly, his thoughts inevitably turning to Ren Wenshan...
