Chapter 2836: Chapter 2839: The Vanguard Army’s Return of Loyalty

The Taiji Legion’s camp was surrounded.

Over forty thousand men encircled the Taiji Legion’s camp, their faces cold as they stared down anyone who tried to approach. The surrounding legion camps all shifted away, relocating nearly ten li to the sides.

This encirclement of over forty thousand men existed for only one purpose: to protect that unconscious young protector lying in the Taiji Legion commander’s main tent!

Swish!

A figure flew toward the Taiji Legion’s camp.

Buzz, buzz, buzz!

Sky‑piercing killing intent erupted from the bodies of those more than forty thousand Vanguard Army soldiers, instantly blasting the figure in midair back nearly ten li!

”I am Dongfang Changkong. I’ve come to deliver Elixirs and the War God’s orders!”

Dongfang Changkong called out helplessly.

Buzz!

At those words, the Vanguard Army’s faces lit up with joy. They instantly withdrew their killing intent and all lowered their voices, saying, ”Commander Dongfang, please. We must trouble Commander Dongfang to keep your voice down. The commander is still not awake.”

”Alright.”

Dongfang Changkong nodded with an amused look.

That this fellow could tame these death‑seeking Vanguard madmen truly filled Dongfang Changkong with admiration.

But when he thought of what Jiang Chen had done during and after the great battle—especially that final sword stroke beheading Kong Changyou, shocking all the legion commanders—Dongfang Changkong also felt deep respect for Jiang Chen’s sense of loyalty.

Composing himself, Dongfang Changkong flew toward the main command tent.

Just as Dongfang Changkong entered the camp, a large group of figures appeared in the distant sky, also flying toward this side. The one in the lead was Wu Tiantong.

”Halt!”

The Vanguard Army at the front of the camp all rose into the air, blocking Wu Tiantong and the others. ”The commander has not yet awakened. No one is allowed to disturb him!”

”Very well.”

Wu Tiantong smiled faintly and waved his hand behind him; everyone landed in front of the camp.

After the Vanguard Army landed, they still stood blocking Wu Tiantong and his group. They glanced at the people behind Wu Tiantong and immediately understood.

There were more than sixty thousand of them. On the outer ring were over ten thousand from the Enforcement Legion. In the middle were fifty thousand wearing standard armor identical to that of the Vanguard Army.

”Mo Qiancheng, don’t tell me I’m not allowed in either?”

Wu Tiantong swept a glance over the Vanguard Army blocking his way and fixed his gaze on a man with a hard face and cold eyes.

Mo Qiancheng, one of the Vanguard Army. He had been in the Vanguard Army since the Divine Infant Realm region and had fought on the Extraterritorial Battlefield for a thousand years. With no resources at all, he had cultivated to the Late Integration Realm, and was now suppressing his cultivation realm. Among the Vanguard Army in this sector, his prestige was very high.

Mo Qiancheng gave Wu Tiantong a look and said blandly, ”Commander Wu may go in, but the others may not.”

”You lot have really been taken in by that kid. Still, if someone treated me the way he treated you, I’d probably follow him to the death as well!”

Wu Tiantong let out a sigh.

”Only the commander treats us as human beings.”

Mo Qiancheng spoke indifferently. ”He treats us as men of the nation; I must repay him with my life. You may not have noticed, but all the brothers in the Vanguard Army have. The commander could have earned far more battle merit, but for our sake he abandoned multiple chances to wipe out large enemy forces and instead turned back to help us cut down the foes attacking us. This favor, we have engraved in our hearts!”

”Oh? In that case, you still took his Elixirs?”

Wu Tiantong asked curiously, ”He borrowed fifty thousand battle merit for those Elixirs. I haven’t interacted with him much, but given his character, he’ll definitely pay Commander Zhang back.”

”We accepted them so we can better help the commander kill the enemy. We are all under the commander’s banner now; all our battle merit will be tallied under his name.”

Mo Qiancheng spoke coolly, ”We’re not afraid of death, but we cannot die before we’ve repaid the commander’s kindness in treating us with honor. We need Elixirs to heal our old wounds, so we can fight at full strength and carve out a broad, bright road for the commander along the Great Dao!”

Wu Tiantong’s expression changed. He looked deeply at Mo Qiancheng, a trace of admiration appearing in his eyes. ”Well said, Mo Qiancheng. Well said, Vanguard Army. It seems we were far too prejudiced against you in the past!”

Mo Qiancheng fell silent and did not reply.

Prejudice? Not necessarily.

The Vanguard Army indeed contained many who had committed every imaginable evil. Their deaths on the battlefield were no loss at all. Even Mo Qiancheng himself knew very well that if he died on the battlefield, it would not be a pity.

But even villains have hearts. When someone treats them with such courtesy, pays so much on their behalf, they too will be moved; they too will gladly die for one who knows their worth.

”Enough, I’ll go take a look at that kid. Leave them here for now. These are newly supplemented Vanguard Army. The higher‑ups want to ask that kid first whether he’ll take them in.”

Wu Tiantong explained softly, patted Mo Qiancheng on the shoulder, and strode into the camp.

The Vanguard Army did not bar his way. Instead, they turned to size up the newly arrived Vanguard Army.

The newcomers seemed to be divided into four groups. Three of the groups were huddled together closely, numbering around twenty thousand. The last group was made up of scattered troops, clearly drawn from various places.

”Brother, I am Longteng of the Long Family of the Elixir Divine City on the Canglan Continent. I’d like to ask you something.”

A young man in golden Xuan Robes walked up to Mo Qiancheng, smiling as he cupped his fists.

The man from the Enforcement Legion in charge of watching them glanced at Longteng and said nothing. As long as these people didn’t cause trouble, he wouldn’t interfere. Their arrival was mainly to lead these Vanguard Army to their assigned legions later. Out here on the Extraterritorial Battlefield, no one worried about them running away.

Mo Qiancheng looked indifferently at the youth and said nothing.

”I heard Jiang Chen is in this Taiji Legion. Is that true?”

Longteng paid no mind to Mo Qiancheng’s coldness, still smiling broadly as he spoke.

Mo Qiancheng’s eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze turning suspicious as he looked at Longteng. ”You know him?”

”Of course.”

Longteng nodded lightly, a flash of coldness in his eyes. ”Brother, you were probably also framed into the Vanguard Army, weren’t you? Most of the Vanguard Army were oppressed by others, right?”

Mo Qiancheng’s face shifted subtly, a trace of gloom flickering in his eyes.

Seeing Mo Qiancheng’s reaction, Longteng was secretly delighted, thinking he had struck a chord. Putting on an air of a fellow victim cast down to the ends of the earth, he sighed and said angrily, ”Our Long Family was ruined by that bastard Jiang Chen. Our entire branch clan was punished and sent to the Extraterritorial Battlefield. And over there, the Feng Family and the Yan Family—they were all harmed by that bastard as well!”

Buzz, buzz, buzz!

Waves of chilling aura surged forth as the surrounding Vanguard Army all turned icy gazes on Longteng.

”You say you were harmed by Jiang Chen? How exactly did he harm you?”

Mo Qiancheng’s eyes narrowed to slits as he stared fixedly at Longteng, a glint of frigid cold flashing within.
