Venerated Venomous Consort

Gu Xijiu was surprised that her exhaustion did not get her through a good night’s sleep. After a few twists and turns, she still could not fall back to sleep.

She uncurled her body with a wide stretch and sat right up. Maybe it was time to give Di Fuyi a call. Although the man would probably be asleep, she could not resist giving him a call. There were things that she needed to talk to him about.

It only took a second for Di Fuyi to pick up the call. “What is the matter?” His voice sounded a little hoarse like he had just woken up.

“Fuyi, do you regret your decision?” Gu Xijiu hesitantly asked.

“Regret what decision?”

“Regret putting on a show with me.”

“So what if I do? And what if I don’t?” Di Fuyi answered somewhat ambiguously.

The way he answered made her assume that he must have regretted it. She knew that it was coming all along. With a sigh, she realized that she would rather trouble someone else as she still owed Di Fuyi a debt of gratitude. She did not want to burden him with this matter anymore and should offer him a way out.

“Let’s cancel the wedding.”

Di Fuyi took a moment to absorb her sudden request. “Why?” He asked in a light tone, as if not believing Gu Xijiu really wanted to go through with it.

Gu Xijiu tried to sound as reasonable as possible, “As I said, you are not allowed to marry another woman in the first three years of our marriage. Our reputation may be at stake when there are gossips. Now that you have already found the princess, I want you to have your freedom to love her. Luckily, my identity is still a well-kept secret, so no one knows who I really am. Even if the wedding is canceled, most people will not even notice. So you and the princess…”

“Are you jealous?” Di Fuyi suddenly interrupted.

Jealous? Gu Xijiu laughed at the silliness. “No, honestly.” She gave him a short pause before resuming calmly, “All right, that is it. I will find someone else to keep the show going.”

“Are you angry?”

Amused, Gu Xijiu laughed out loud. “I am not. Don’t worry; I can never be angry with you. After all, you are not obliged to help me. Even without the wedding, you will still be a friend of mine.”

It was yet another specimen of her great generosity towards Di Fuyi.

“You…” Di Fuyi did not finish his sentence before the call was ended.

Just like that, everything was said and done. There was no need for any further entanglement. Relieved, Gu Xijiu decided to stretch to get ready for another day of work. If she could not sleep, she might as well get down to work.

When all of the spiritual stones were collected, her mission would be deemed complete. She would then be free to leave the Devil Kingdom since she was no longer needed here. She disengaged the wizardry barrier and started walking towards one of the many stones scattered around the hill.

From a distance, she started casting a spell.

However, next to the stone that she laid on, sudden wisps of red smoke rose into the air and transformed into a giant fist. Aggressively, it started attacking her.

Startled, Gu Xijiu took a huge leap to the back from the boulder. She was at least ten feet away. Therefore, the red fist missed her. With a quick sway, it slowly gathered and transformed into the shape of a man.

The young man in red stood proudly before her. He looked at her with his sharp eyes, but a mark on his forehead was his most prominent feature. His red, supple lips glistened under the moonlight, which greatly complemented his big, red robes. There he stood, looking as graceful as ever.

Gu Xijiu realized that his eyes were dark emerald as he fixedly stared at her as if inviting her to fight.
