Venerated Venomous Consort

“I was asking you hypothetically.”

Gu Xijiu paused for a moment to think about the weird question that Di Fuyi was asking. Before she could say anything, Di Fuyi added, “Would you watch as my body exploded and rot?”

To which, she answered right away, “Of course not.”

“Then, what would you have done?” He quickly asked.

Gu Xijiu felt quite embarrassed to answer the question, so she shrugged a little and tried to answer casually, “I would find you a lady?”

Di Fuyi’s face immediately sank.

“Don’t worry; I know you are picky when it comes to cleanliness. Most girls will not even be on your list. I need to find you a good lady from a nice family.”

“So, you’re telling me that I should exploit the lady?”

“It is not exploitation, is it? Many ladies are obsessed with you. They have been waiting outside this building for you every single day. We can easily get one of them to help.”

Di Fuyi was even more disappointed. “What should I do after the urge disappears? Ignore her when her duty is done?”

Gu Xijiu paused to think about it. “Of course not. You have to marry her.”

“Didn’t you tell me that I am not allowed to have a concubine once we are married?”

Gu Xijiu sighed. “Formally, you are not allowed to, but all she needs to do is to wait for three years. Our marriage will be dissolved by then, so you can make her your concubine, or even your wife, for all I care. If she thinks that the wait is too long, fine, we can sort out our priorities. You can marry her first once her duty is done since our wedding will not take place until 20 days later. At least people will have nothing to say about her.”

Gu Xijiu was rather generous. In fact, she felt that it was unfair for the lady to be withheld from compensation after she had done her duty. Overall, Gu Xijiu was somewhat satisfied with her answer, so she thought that he would be impressed. To her dismay, his facial expression changed to a look of utter disappointment. She could tell from his eyes that he was somewhat irritated. “You are unusually generous!” He threw her a sarcastic reply before walking away.

Gu Xijiu was surprised by the sudden change. She followed him and asked, “Where are you going?” As she was not sure if the toxins in his body had been completely extracted, she still wanted to observe him.

“To find me a nice lady!” Di Fuyi scornfully replied. He then walked faster and left her behind.

Gu Xijiu did not understand his irritation. Had she said something wrong? She graciously changed their entire plan all for his sake. What more could he ask for?

From the way he threw his tantrum, she assumed that the toxins were already removed. She also suspected that his remark about finding a new lady was untrue. But for the next two days, Di Fuyi never showed up once. He seemed quite occupied. He did not come back during the day, or even after work. She asked the servant about his whereabouts, but he was equally uninformed.

Nevertheless, what Gu Xijiu noticed was the absence of another servant. There was supposed to be two of them. The missing one was supposed to be in charge of the chores, so Gu Xijiu was quite concerned about his safety.

She asked his companion where the servant might be, and she was told that Di Fuyi took him away. Perhaps Di Fuyi needed the servant to be by his side at all times.

In other news, something shocking had happened recently. The Devil King was assassinated, which Gu Xijiu had seen coming for quite some time. Therefore, the parlous state of the Devil Kingdom continued to deteriorate.

The entire kingdom was determined to catch the criminal. However, Gu Xijiu remained unbothered. She stuck to her daily routine, which was to collect the spiritual stones. Without Di Fuyi, there was no need for her to put on a show.

On the third day, she left her room and did not come back. She had to travel far to get to a hill where there were more spiritual stones were available. Since dusk was already falling, she decided to stay the night.
