His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 2208: Chapter 642: One Year Later (19) Rebellion (Third Update)_3

He let her go so she could live a little lighter, a little freer, not to make her learn to smoke, not for her to drink secretly at night, not for her to starve herself, self-destruct all day, still messing up her perfectly good feet like this.

”It’s just that there’s been a lot of events lately, I’ve worn high heels a few more times, it’ll be fine after the New Year!”

Qin Mu reflexively explained the reason, not wanting him to dwell on anything else.

But Mu Yichen just looked at her for a long time, that soul-stirring gaze caught her off guard, like a ticking time bomb thrown into her heart, about to explode.

She felt extremely uncomfortable inside, but could not lash out.

Like last time on the island, crying on him, she never wanted another time like that in her whole life.

That Qin Mu, even she despised her own cowardice.

She expected Mu Yichen to scold her harshly, but for some reason, he suddenly stopped speaking, only held her foot in his arms, warming it with his hands.

Such a thing, she thought, should not be done after separation, but something inside was stirring, as if speaking would release something that shouldn’t be, so she bowed her head, hands clenched tightly, not letting even a word slip out.

The room suddenly became quiet, and gradually, it felt like no one was home.

In the past, it was never like this, she wasn’t someone who particularly cherished herself, but she definitely didn’t have a penchant for self-harm, but now.

But she said, she’d only be happy apart!

Mu Yichen bowed his head, later unsure if he was warming her foot or his own heart, but it seemed neither were truly effective.

Mu Yichen then looked around the house, the decor was somewhat cold, there wasn’t much inside, but the kitchen was fully equipped, yet by the looks of it, she hadn’t used it much.

And the sofa and table didn’t seem like her taste, he wondered who arranged everything for her here.

Mu Yichen guessed it was likely an assistant or someone like that.

”But, why let the two of them go to Disney on their own? You just said you had something to talk about, now, you don’t want to talk?”

Qin Mu finally came back to her senses, remembered the important matter, and cautiously asked him.

Mu Yichen glanced at her again, with a slight smile: ”Let’s find a time to go back and get the divorce settled!”

His words were gentle, but...

Qin Mu had clearly prepared herself long ago, always thought she was ready to fly back and deal with the divorce at any moment, but now, what was happening in her heart? Why did it hurt so fiercely?

And why were her eyes so hot, heavy, and then, with a slight movement of her eyelashes, a tear rolled down, followed by another.

Qin Mu instinctively turned her gaze away: ”Oh!”

That ”Oh” sounded like a dying gasp.

Mu Yichen instinctively focused more on her, seeing her face so haggard, her tear-streaked eyes, her downcast expression.

Qin Mu wouldn’t let herself linger too long in such gloom in front of him, instead, she raised her hand to wipe away the tears, then smiled and asked him: ”Was this matter really worth making their brother and sister go to Disney with outsiders, I should hurry and go too! It’s hard to get a chance to accompany them!”

Qin Mu said as she lifted the blanket, wanting to leave.

But Mu Yichen still didn’t let go of her.

Qin Mu raised her eyes to look at him questioningly: ”You still have something to say?”

How long could her rationality and stubbornness last?

”No!”

Mu Yichen said, but his hand wouldn’t release her.

Qin Mu instinctively looked to his embrace, parted her lips, then painfully reminded him: ”My feet aren’t cold anymore!”

Mu Yichen glanced at his hands, let out a wry laugh, then suddenly bowed his head, pressing his thumbs against his forehead.

Qin Mu’s heart gave a violent tremor, he was...

”Mu Yichen, you...”

Qin Mu wanted to tell him not to be like that, but the words wouldn’t come out, and she found herself blinded by tears again.

He remained silent, but when he looked at her again, his eyes were red.

Qin Mu couldn’t bear the sight and turned her eyes away.

Yet Mu Yichen suddenly leaned forward, pressing her into the sofa, softly asking her: ”During this year apart, have you been well? Living the life you wanted?”

Qin Mu’s eyes shimmered with tears as she gazed at him, making him see her as pitiful and unsatisfied.

”Mmm!”

Qin Mu forced a sound from her throat.

Mu Yichen chuckled lightly, gently wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes, gazing at her with endless affection: ”Then why secretly drink at night? Is it because you can’t sleep without drinking?”

Qin Mu couldn’t answer, only looked at him, feeling an overwhelming heartache.

”Smoking, staying up late, working to exhaustion, all those glamorous appearances in front of others, you tell me, are they all what you want.”

Mu Yichen continued to ask her, his eyes unintentionally flickering with something.

Qin Mu’s mouth wouldn’t move, as if it had been sewn shut, only looking at him, pained and unable to help herself.

Why must they be so honest with each other?

”Mmm!”

Finally, with all her might, weighing the options, she could only manage to squeeze out this one sound from her throat.

Mu Yichen gazed at her with such pain and helplessness, for a long, long time, he laughed quietly resting on her shoulder.

Several times, Qin Mu wanted to raise her hand to touch his face, but it seemed she had lost the ability to comfort him, just remaining woodenly beneath his body, even unable to meet his gaze directly.

Yet he smiled again, looking at her: ”The night of your twentieth birthday, we had Huanhuan.”

Qin Mu dared to meet his eyes for once, but was surprised, not understanding why he suddenly mentioned that night years ago.

His hand suddenly intertwined with hers, fingers tightly interlocked.

Qin Mu looked at their entwined hands, and Mu Yichen also looked, with no lack of sadness, the hands that once tightly held each other, and now, they were about to hand each other’s hands into someone else’s.

”Is there anywhere you’d like me to accompany you to?”

Mu Yichen continued to entangle with her, yet no longer as deeply as just before.

Qin Mu saw his abrupt change and relaxed a little, thought about it, and gently shook her head.

”Really nowhere? Like, the bed?”

Mu Yichen gave her a hint, smiling suggestively.
