Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 285: Chapter 130 Chen Jie: Madam, Please Respect Yourself!_6

”He later exerted himself for the guild, and in every conflict, he suffered twelve slash wounds for White Tiger Hall, with three of them just an inch away from vital spots.”

Peng Fu said, ”Second Master truly shed blood for White Tiger Hall.”

”But why, why was he so muddle-headed, to collude with the Zoroastrian Sect? Who could bear the guilt of such a crime, the trafficking of iron goods? Why would he do this!”

Peng Shizhong was heartbroken, and Peng Fu stood by, saying nothing.

Peng Shizhong asked, ”Have you seen all the evidence Jiu Si submitted?”

Peng Fu replied, ”I’ve seen it all. These are indeed the acts of Second Master, confirmed without a doubt. However...it seems as though there is someone behind this, pushing matters forward. Fifth Master said if it weren’t for that person behind the scenes deliberately pushing the case forward, we might not have caught Second Master so quickly.”

Peng Shizhong took a drink upon hearing this and said with a laugh, ”The manipulator behind the scenes, huh... *cough* *cough* *cough*...”

”My lord, you shouldn’t drink anymore. Otherwise, your wounds will have a hard time healing.”

Peng Shizhong waved his hand and said, ”I’m fine, that’s enough. Let this matter end here. As for this so-called hidden mastermind, let’s pretend they don’t exist and stop the investigation.”

”Yes, my lord, I understand.”

Peng Shizhong said, ”Peng Fu, go to the Funeral Parlor and order a decent coffin. Second Brother has repaid his debts, and tomorrow arrange a mourning hall for him. We’ll bury him with Fourth Brother the day after tomorrow.”

Peng Fu responded, ”Yes.”

”By the way, my lord, what about the Darugachi Mansion?”

Peng Shizhong laughed, ”Their news is always so prompt. By now, they probably already know.”

Peng Fu said...

...

At Darugachi Mansion:

Qimu Ge held a piece of paper and glanced at it, saying, ”Dead?”

The person beside him asked, ”What do you mean dead?”

”The White Tiger Hall fellow who colluded with the Zoroastrian Sect and smuggled iron goods.”

”Is it the same person we know of?”

Qimu Ge said, ”Mm, it is. It’s the same Zheng Chuan that Feng Xuan told us about. It seems Peng Shizhong has truly slain his kin for the sake of righteousness.”

”Right, I’ll go tell the lord and see how he wants to handle this affair.”

With that, he ran off to inform Lord Darugachi.

”Well, since Peng Shizhong has acted with such righteousness, let it be.”

”Lord, are we going to let them off that easily?”

”Qimu Ge, it’s not about letting them off easily, but the importance of Peng Shizhong. His existence balances the Fishing Guild and Guild Cao. If he sways to any side, the balance will break, and I’ll have to re-establish it, which is quite troublesome.”

Lord Darugachi’s voice carried through.

Qimu Ge replied, ”Understood, my lord. Your subordinate comprehends.”

”By the way, do you have any leads about the Beggar Sect’s Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms?”

”Lord, it seems the remaining members of the Beggar Sect really don’t know where the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms were hidden. I’ve already used all types of torture on them, but they still refuse to confess.”

”Still a bunch of tough nuts to crack.”

”No, my lord. According to my years of experience, they might genuinely not know.”

”Oh, that’s a pity then. The Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms is a fine cultivation technique.”

”Don’t worry, my lord. I’ve thought of a good method that might help you obtain this secret manual.”

”What method?”

Qimu Ge said, ”Among those captured, there’s one called Zhou Peng. He couldn’t withstand the torture and is willing to defect to us. I propose we support him, see if we can place him in the old beggar’s position, so he might travel north and fool the Beggar Sect Headquarters into giving away another copy of the Eighteen Palms secret manual, thus recycling waste.”

”Hmm, that could work.”

Lord Darugachi replied, and then fell silent.

Qimu Ge bowed and said, ”Your subordinate will take his leave.”

...

In the small courtyard of the Chen family, Wu Zhong was already drunk, and Wu Hong, carrying his own father, bade farewell to Chen Jie and others.

Wu Hong also had his own property in the city. Before leaving, Chen Jie stuffed a letter and a silver note of one hundred taels into Wu Zhong’s embrace. Originally, when he first arrived in the city, it was Wu Zhong who had given him the silver, so it was both a way to express gratitude and to settle accounts.

After saying goodbye to Wu Zhong, Third Miss Hua and her party also left.

Little Ruirui, having eaten her fill, was already asleep, currently dozing off sweetly beside a grinding stone.

Chen Jie picked her up to see her little face imprinted with the patterns of the grindstone and carried her into her tiny room.

Chen Jie and Su Yunjin returned to their own room.

Su Yunjin said, ”Husband, you... did you kill someone again?”

Chen Jie was taken aback. He knew that Su Yunjin had a keen nose and after pausing, he said, ”In Jianghu, one cannot control one’s own fate.”

Su Yunjin replied, ”Mm. I won’t inquire further. Are you tired? Let me wash your feet.”

She brought a basin of hot water, and Su Yunjin placed Chen Jie’s feet in the wooden basin, gently kneading with her small hands.

Chen Jie leaned against the wooden railing of the bed and inadvertently dozed off.

Seeing her husband fall asleep just like that, the wife washed his feet clean, dried them, and then helped him into a more comfortable sleeping position before quietly lying down behind him, holding him.

Husband, you must be exhausted. Your wife has always been here, always beside you.

As if sensing something, Chen Jie held her hand.

The long night stretched on, and Chen Jie was awakened by a notification from the System.
