Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 186: Chapter 114: Gathering of the Big Shots, Ruirui Goes Missing_3

Peng Shizhong immediately approached with clasped fists and said, ”Brother Liu, I didn’t expect that this would disturb you.”

”Ah, Brother Peng, how could I not come to witness such an important event as you taking on an adoptive son?”

After saying this, Peng Shizhong said, ”Thank you, Brother Liu.”

”No need for courtesies. Oh, Ba Tian is here too!”

Liu Laoguai, with a big smile on his face, came closer, and Nan Batian immediately clasped his fists and said, ”Brother Liu.”

”Overlord Brother.”

The two greeted each other warmly and congenially, showing no signs of hostility at all. That is the demeanor of true leaders; even if their subordinates fight to the death below, they maintain at least the basic courtesies.

The two men smiled at each other, and right after, Liu Laoguai said, ”Haha...Old Peng, where are those two Qilin’ers of yours?”

Hearing this, Peng Shizhong said, ”Jiu Si, Zhou Chu, come meet Guild Leader Liu.”

Hearing this, Chen Jiusi and Zhou Chu came forward and greeted, ”Guild Leader Liu.”

At Liu Laoguai’s words, he turned to look at the two young men and laughed, ”Good, good indeed, Song’er.”

Liu Laoguai beckoned, and the young man dismounted and came before Peng Shizhong to greet him, then paid his respects to Nan Batian before quickly joining Liu Laoguai’s side.

Liu Laoguai said, ”You’re spoiled rotten by me, not knowing how vast the world is. Take a look at these two young heroes. They’ve emerged from the common folk, caught Sect Master Peng’s discerning eye, and thus changed their fates. If it weren’t for me as your father, you’d be begging on the streets. These are the ones who fought their way out with their own fists and feet. Learn from them.”

The young man had a look of disdain on his face, while Chen Jie was on pins and needles.

Wasn’t Liu Laoguai essentially drawing hatred toward himself with these words?

Thinking of this, Chen Jie quickly said, ”Guild Leader Liu, you overpraise. Being chosen by my adoptive father is purely my good fortune. To compare me with Mr. Liu, a person of distinguished talent, would be absurd!”

Who would have expected that Liu Song would immediately show no face and say, ”Chen Jiusi, don’t sell yourself short. I know you’re the one who killed the manager of Guild Cao in Xiantao Town with just two palms, right?”

Chen Jie’s expression stiffened; surely this wasn’t the start of a vendetta!

Thinking quickly, Chen Jie responded with a forced laugh, ”Haha, it’s hard to hold back in matches on the arena!”

”No need to explain. I’m not going to seek personal vengeance against you, but remember this, Chen Jiusi: people from Guild Cao aren’t so easily killed.”

”Ah, you unfilial child, what nonsensical talk! Matters of Jianghu, and you make it sound like a petty fight. You lack decorum. Step down!”

Liu Song was rather dissatisfied, but then Liu Laoguai, looking at Chen Jie, said, ”My son has not seen much of the world since he was young, please be understanding. Come here!”

Saying this, Liu Laoguai slipped off a pure gold ring from his thumb and stuffed it into Chen Jie’s hand, saying, ”Take this as my greeting gift, haha...”

Chen Jie held the ring given by Liu Laoguai, his expression rather peculiar. What kind of habit was this, giving a ring upon meeting, and moreover, it was not light, weighing about four or five taels.

Liu Laoguai then turned to Zhou Chu and said, ”Ah, I almost forgot about you. Here, take this!”

Saying this, Liu Laoguai pulled off a smaller ring from his pinky and handed it to Zhou Chu.

As Zhou Chu looked up, Liu Laoguai made a strange sound, ”Oh dear, wait, your eyes?”

Zhou Chu was close to tears. Why did everyone ask about his eyes? Could he really say it was because his wife had beaten him?

He only had the nerve to say, ”Born with it, born with it.”

”Oh, so you can be born with something like that, akin to that... that...”

”Black-eyed Bear.”

Chen Jie promptly reminded from the side.

”Right, right, like the Black-eyed Bear, quite a resemblance!”

”Respected elder, our Gang Leader has just now given him the nickname ’Black-eyed Bear’.”

Hearing this, Liu Laoguai chuckled and said, ”No wonder Overlord is fit to be Gang Leader. Just the nickname alone is ingenious; I can’t compare!”

Zhou Chu wore a look that said ’thanks a lot’ on his face!

Today, his nickname would truly be known throughout Mianshui County.

”Two Guild Leaders, the banquet inside is all prepared; please have a seat inside.”

”Oh, good, good.”

Liu Laoguai agreed, then came in front of Nan Batian and said, ”Ba Tian, after you.”

”Brother Liu is my senior; please, after you!”

”You rank before me; please, you go first.”

”You are the more seasoned; please, you first!”

”Hey, enough with the politeness, this doorway is wide enough; let’s go in together.”

”Please.”

The two of them made pleasantries, in what was a very harmonious display, not resembling two rival guilds locked in a life-or-death struggle at all.

In fact, this was quite normal. A leader should carry the air of a leader.

They couldn’t simply squabble like commoners.

A leader’s wrath could potentially cause a major earthquake in Mianshui County; the only possible pacifier for such fury might be human lives.

The two leaders entered the main hall of White Tiger Hall, and everyone else found their seats in turn. After a brief wait, when no other notable guests seemed to arrive, Peng Shizhong glanced at Feng Xuan.

Feng Xuan nodded and said, ”Ladies and gentlemen, our banquet will now officially commence.”

Upon hearing this, people gathered in the main hall to observe. Nan Batian and Beilao Liu sat on the side.

Peng Shizhong sat in the place of honor, followed by Feng Xuan who began, ”The ceremony of adoption shall now begin.”

”Please, both adoptive sons come forward.”

Chen Jie and Zhou Chu stepped up, and Feng Xuan said, ”Pay respects to your master.”

Both kneeled on one knee, and following that, Feng Xuan said, ”Burn incense and announce to the ancestors.”

Immediately, a scroll filled with names was brought forward, unrolled, and hung down from the roof beams, then Chen Jie and the other took three sticks of incense and placed them in the censer.

This was like offering incense to their ancestors.

After the incense sticks were placed, Feng Xuan said, ”Offer tea to your adoptive father.”
