Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1498: Chapter 1499: The Gate of Void Chapter 1498: Chapter 1499: The Gate of Void Black Castle, the underground laboratory.

As Angel opened his eyes, what came into view was the pure white expanse of the laboratory beneath the light source overhead, which was slightly dazzling.

Angel stretched out his fingers and pinched them together.

The firm sensation of making a fist allowed him to confirm that his consciousness had returned from that ethereal cage to his real body.

Angel turned his head, just in time to see the “Gate” gradually fading away.

With the return of his consciousness, the “Gate” that connected both sides would also dissipate.

Angel checked the Gate Model on his Witchcraft Slot and found that the special energy previously covering it had shrunk to a point.

Just as he had speculated earlier, to enter that strange passage again, he would have to wait for the special energy to fully Diffuse again.

After observing for about half an hour, Angel discovered that the special energy was diffusing very slowly. If it continued at this rate, it would take half a year to fully spread out. If any complications arose, it might take even longer.

Realizing that it was not possible to reopen the gate anytime soon, Angel sighed softly.

Since it would take at least half a year to open the gate a second time, even if he wanted to help Alex, he was now eager but powerless.

Half a year, though short for a wizard, was enough time to change many things.

At Alex’s end, the situation had reached a critical, urgent point. Waiting half a year, let alone half a month or even half a day, would probably see the dust settle.

Since he could no longer cross over, the outcome of the grand performance within the cage could only be left to Alex.

At least, before his return, he had managed to alleviate some of Alex’s burdens–

Back to a few minutes earlier, when Alex was surrounded by more than twenty undead, Angel once again used an Illusion Technique, trapping those undead in a small garden.

This use of illusion was different from before, as he had to confuse so many undead at once, Angel had almost released all his available illusion energy.

As he released all his illusion energy, the energy maintaining his illusory form also began to falter.

His figure started to become vague and indistinct.

Without the support of illusion energy, the core of consciousness lost its vessel, and Angel could clearly feel the attraction of the “Gate” beginning to increase, as if urging him to return immediately.

Angel had no choice but to leave partway. Finally, with a look of astonishment in Alex’s eyes, Angel simply bid farewell, “I said I was just a passerby who got off at the wrong stop. Though I didn’t expect to encounter such an interesting situation at this halfway point… If one day you manage to leave the cage, maybe we’ll be fortunate enough to meet again.”

Having said that, Angel followed the pull of the Gate and bid farewell to this brief yet fantastical journey.

Angel’s return had been unexpected; thus, he actually felt some regret for not witnessing that space-time of the dead with his own eyes and the conclusion of this tumultuous play.

However, his departure was also inevitable.

Because after Priest Beren Lan revealed the secret of the cage, Angel knew it would be difficult to determine its location.

Even Beren Lan could only vaguely say, “Beyond the cage, there is an even greater cage, from which no one can escape, except for the gods above.”

This indicated that the location information here was probably unknown to anyone.

Given this, Angel’s reason to stay in Gust Town had mostly vanished. Perhaps the only thing that was still motivating him was the desire to see the outcome of this interesting affair.

It seemed there was no way to do that now.

Even if the gate could be reopened now, Angel did not know if he could find the way back to that cage.

Therefore, the future of Gust Town, Father Beren Lan’s lifelong wish, and everybody’s fate were now all to be enacted by Alex alone.

Angel believed that, following his departure, with the resilience of Alex’s psyche, he would likely recover quickly.

The next step would be to take advantage of the undead being controlled by the Illusion Technique and kill Tessa in the undead space.

To enter the undead space, one must have an object from that space as a medium. Since Alex carried that dagger, there was still a way to reach the undead space.

But whether he could find Tessa, and whether he could kill her, that was an open question.

Angel took out his notebook and began recording his insights from this experiment with the Gate Model, from the separation of the consciousness core to his conjectures about the peculiar passage, as well as the light dot that carried him forward; Angel made a detailed record of it all.

At the same time, many doubts were listed for each link in the process.

Some of these doubts could be inferred from existing information, such as the Illusion Body. Angel could roughly deduce its origin; it must have been influenced by his own attributes when constructing the Gate Model, which resulted in the appearance of the Illusion Body.

If his Talent had been elemental instead of belonging to the Illusion Series of the arcane side, perhaps what would have emerged were not the Illusion Body, but a Flame Body, a Wind Body, or a Water Body.

These were the questions to which he could infer answers, but there were doubts Angel could not yet resolve.

For instance, the true nature of the special energy and the final destination of that peculiar passageway could only be explored and deciphered when “the Gate” was reopened.

After spending an entire day, Angel finally organized all of the known information and unknown doubts.

In the end, Angel’s gaze settled on the title of this record.

Trial Records of the Gate Model

After pondering for a moment, a faint light flashed at his fingertips as he gently traced over the words. The title immediately began to change.

The characters for “Gate Model” slowly started to deconstruct, the black strokes reassembling, to finally reveal a new phrase–

Trial Records of the Gate of Void

Previously, because Angel did not know what effects would manifest after activating the special energy, he had never named the first Spell Technique on his Witchcraft Slot, simply referring to it as the “Gate Model.”

Now, having experienced that brief journey, although Angel still had many unresolved doubts, he basically had a rough outline of its principle in mind.

It was a capability that used the Illusion Body to traverse space-time distances.

Its specific function, since Angel had not yet seen the end of the peculiar passageway, remained unknown. But based on the information at hand, it was possible to give it a simple name.

Void signified the traversing of space-time distances. Illusion represented the Illusion Body.

The Gate of Void was a name created from its superficial characteristics. If in the future, Angel discovered the end of the peculiar passageway and understood the true purpose of the gate, he would not mind renaming it “significantly” if it wasn’t too much trouble.

After confirming the name for the Gate of Void, Angel stood up and stretched.

Counting the time, it had been eight days since he entered the testing ground; he wondered if Hua Que had managed to research the Transforming Soft-bodied Insect?

A while later, Angel withdrew his spiritual power back from the bracelet.

The Transforming Soft-bodied Insect had not appeared yet, but according to Hua Que, they weren’t far from success; the parent insect had already reached the egg-laying stage, and it was very possible that these eggs would be the Transforming Soft-bodied Insects.

By Angel’s own estimation, even if these eggs were Transforming Soft-bodied Insects, it would probably take two more days for them to hatch.

For the next two days, Angel did not intend to rest idly.

Finding himself unbothered, Angel took out Mithril, Arcane Platinum, Spirit Transmitting Diamond, and a range of other Demonic Materials.

The grade of these Demonic Materials wasn’t high, but that did not matter to him; he was just whimsically planning to craft a little trinket.

A day later, as the fire’s fervor subsided, a curiously shaped little box appeared in Angel’s hands.

Angel didn’t immediately test the box but instead channeled his spiritual power into the bracelet.

After a while, Hua Que and Popota appeared in the testing ground along with them, and so did the table bearing the Pliant Worm’s nest.

Faced with the sudden change of environment, they were momentarily disoriented.

After a brief explanation from Angel about their current location, he turned to look at the nest, “Have the eggs hatched yet?”

“Not yet, but judging by the hatching rate, it shouldn’t be too long, a day at most.” Popota looked excited, but his face was very pale, and the consecutive nights without sleep had left him seemingly frail enough to be blown away by a gust of wind.

Angel then glanced at Hua Que who nodded back at him.

“Big brother, I have a feeling that this hatching might successfully yield the Transforming Soft-bodied Insect!”

Angel, “Then I shall await with keen interest.”

“However, since they’re still in the process of hatching, there’s no need to watch constantly. You’ve been tired for several days; take some time to relax. I’ll show you something.”

Amidst their puzzled looks, Angel took out the little box he had crafted not long ago.
