Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1481: Section 1482 Strange Corridor Chapter 1481: Section 1482 Strange Corridor Alex had noticed a phantom shadow of a fair-haired young man floating above the church since he got up to clean the place in the early morning.

However, at the time, Alex didn’t think much of it.

He thought it was a hallucination.

Ever since he was adopted by Father Beren and brought back to the Clura Church, he would occasionally have hallucinations, such as fleeting phantom shadows before his eyes or inexplicable scenes where he found himself playing mysterious roles.

Alex had been troubled by these hallucinations for a long time and had sought Father Beren’s help.

Father Beren’s response, after a long silence, was to stroke Alex’s hair and say with a compassionate tone, “It seems you have gone through something very painful. Your loss of memory could be because of it.”

Alex thought so too; he guessed that these hallucinations were fragments of past memories.

Faced with this, Alex had two choices: confront the past and search for the lost memories or ignore them and focus on the future.

Father Beren advised Alex to forget his past.

On the surface, Alex did just that.

That’s why when Alex first saw the fair-haired figure, he thought it was a hallucination and ignored it after remembering its appearance, not even mentioning it to Father Beren.

But what was strange was that his past hallucinations were always fleeting, yet this fair-haired figure had been present for over half a day without disappearing.

Initially, the fair-haired figure looked around from above the church. Later, he descended and followed behind Alex, lingering nearby from the moment Alex and Father Beren entered the church to when he consoled Mrs. Connie.

This made Alex realize that maybe this fair-haired figure wasn’t an illusion, but a real “person”?

However, why couldn’t anyone else, be it Father Beren or Mrs. Connie, see this “person”? Was he a ghost?

Alex observed the fair-haired figure secretly for a long time and noticed that the other’s expression was always contemplative, seemingly pondering something, and he often looked around calmly, even coldly–Alex wondered what was on his mind.

Since this was a thinking “person” who didn’t show any malice, Alex decided to speak with him.

After Alex had asked his previous set of questions, the fair-haired figure quietly fixed his gaze on Alex.

“Before asking who someone else is, shouldn’t you introduce yourself first?”

“However, I’ve been observing you all day. I see you are very preoccupied, young man, so I’ll forgive your rudeness,” the fair-haired figure spoke indifferently. “By the way, you may call me Pat.”

Angel watched the young man opposite him. After introducing himself, the young man stood up, removed his gloves, and performed a solemn chest-touching bow, introducing himself as “Alex.”

Through his observations throughout the day, Angel already knew Alex’s name. What he wanted to know was other information besides the young man’s name, but this young man seemed polite, not revealing anything unnecessary.

“Mr. Pat, you haven’t answered my earlier question. Why are you here? Also, why can’t other people see you? Are you a ghost?”

Angel raised an eyebrow, “Why am I here? Honestly, I’d like to know that myself.”

Time rewound to the day before, when Angel was in the testing grounds of Black Castle testing the Gate Model. As he stepped through the door filled with a misty light, Angel experienced a peculiar transmutation.

Angel felt as if his consciousness were peeling away from his physical body, becoming a core that merged with the light behind the mist, while his body remained in the testing grounds. The moment his core entered the light behind the mist, his memories, experiences, ways of thinking, and thought processes all began to reinitialize.

This condition was extraordinary and somewhat reminiscent of the unusual world he was taken to by the Eye of the Sky.

Not only was his thinking clear, but the speed and efficiency of his cognitive processes had reached an unbelievable peak.

The only difference was that this time, Angel’s emotional module hadn’t been discarded.

Since the special energy originally came from that strange world, Angel adjusted quite well and wasn’t overly surprised. He silently took note of the situation to later summarize in his journal.

As Angel experienced this lucid cognition, an unexpected event occurred.

His consciousness was enveloped and carried forward by countless points of light.

Angel was startled and immediately began to observe his surroundings, noticing that the place his consciousness was in was a strange “passageway.”

The passageway was just Angel’s perception; he couldn’t define this place because it was filled with spatial energy, as well as that strange special energy.

Angel didn’t know what this passageway was, but what concerned him more was what these surrounding points of light were, and why they were dragging his consciousness forward?

He instinctively tried to control these points of light.

When he thought about it, he could actually control them.

But just as Angel gained control of these points of light, stopping his consciousness core, the strange passageway suddenly collapsed…

Angel felt his consciousness tumble, like raindrops falling from the sky, sinking into the earth.

This was a fall as if from dimension to dimension.

The space around rapidly ruptured, and Angel’s cognitive functioning gradually slowed until it returned to normal.

It was only when his consciousness core began to stabilize that Angel noticed he was in the sky above a small town.

Angel didn’t rush to observe the situation of the town but sensed his own condition first.

The first thing he discovered was that his consciousness core actually existed within a body?

He was somewhat confused at first, but after carefully perceiving his body, he found that this so-called body was entirely composed of illusionary power.

That is to say, it was actually an illusion body.

This illusion was precisely the image of Angel when he stepped into the light mist, including the clothing, which was exactly the same.

Angel could feel his body was suffused with the power of illusion, and his consciousness core could manipulate this power, but apart from illusionary power, he couldn’t use any other powers.

The second thing Angel discovered was also related to his own energy.

He sensed within his consciousness core a special energy, like a thread, connecting to an unknown void.

When Angel traced along this special energy, he quickly discovered a door.

This door was the very same one he had stepped through.

Angel could even clearly feel that the line composed of this special energy passed through this door and connected to what lay beyond, which was Black Castle’s testing ground, where Angel’s physical body was located.

Angel realized that if he were to step through this door now, this brief journey would likely end, and he would return to Black Castle.

However, Angel did not do so.

Since he already knew the special energy connected his consciousness core with his physical body, meaning he could return to Black Castle at any time, with a way back already secured, he might as well stay on this side first and see what the situation was before deciding.

After exploring his body, Angel actually came to two conclusions.

Firstly, he was now an illusion body, while his real body was still at Black Castle; secondly, he could return at any moment by following the connection of the special energy.

Having confirmed his own situation, Angel then began pondering the most important matter–the effect of the Gate Model.

Recalling the situation in that strange passageway, Angel was certain that its end was definitely not this small town. The reason he ended up in this town was entirely because he tried to control that point of light.

To use an analogy, that point of light was like a train, his consciousness core was the passenger, and the train’s destination was the end of the passageway.

Yet because the passenger attempted to seize control of the train mid-journey, it caused the train not to stay on track, and as a result, the passenger was forced to disembark halfway, ultimately landing in this small town.

Angel roughly deduced the previous situation, but as to what that passage was and where its destination lay, Angel still did not know.

Therefore, there was still much confusion surrounding the Gate Model.

But as far as the current situation was concerned, the effect of the Gate Model seemed to be–to traverse space with an illusion body?

Perhaps, this was just a secondary effect of the Gate Model. Could its true effect be to travel to the other side of that strange passageway?

All of this was still unknown and would only be revealed during the next activation of the Gate Model for a deeper level of experimentation.

For now, Angel was prepared to investigate this small town.

He wanted to know exactly where this town was. Although he, as a derelict passenger, had gotten off halfway, he might gather some information about the passageway from his current location.

Angel thus began descending slowly into the town, and to avoid trouble, he used illusionary power to set up a thin layer of misdirection around him.

Ordinary people shouldn’t be able to see him.

The first place Angel reached was the Kruya Church.

Angel had intended to find the mayor of the town or a noble’s manor first, as generally only such places would hold the basic location information.

However, when he noticed he was above a church, his eyes brightened.

The mayor or nobility might not be able to provide the geographic location due to legal reasons, but the church was different. Being under religious jurisdiction, it generally had autonomous regulations, and with clergy frequently moving about, there definitely would be information on the geographical location here.

Therefore, Angel prepared to descend into the church to look for clues.

In the process, Angel didn’t find any clues, but he did discover an interesting youth.

It was Alex.
