High Martial Arts: Grinding for the Supreme Talent

Chapter 276: Chapter 276: Modified Martial Artist

Lin Qi let out a breath, his heart still pounding with fear.

He had almost died just now. The intense danger had made his hair stand on end. He never thought the assassin would be so cautious.

This assassin was already powerful enough. If he hadn’t used [Double Golden Gang Transformation], he might already be dead.

And yet, the man actually had a bomb installed inside his body.

If his speed had been a little slower, or the distance a little closer, he would probably be dead.

There was no way he could have withstood the damage from that massive explosion. With the force of the blast and the intense heat, his body would have been turned to ash.

Fortunately, he had survived in the end.

’The thing Dean Liu gave me really came in handy.’

”Little Qi, are you really okay?” his mom, Fang Huiyi, asked, using her own clothes to wipe the dust off him.

Lin Qi shook his head with a relaxed expression. ”I’m fine!”

”I just used a Little Divine Power, so I’m a bit tired!”

”Lin Qi, what’s going on?” his dad, Lin Zhen, asked.

”Someone tried to kill me, and I killed him. I didn’t expect him to have a bomb on him.”

Lin Qi gave a simple explanation, framing it merely as an assassination attempt.

After he finished speaking, an intense weakness washed over him. He felt as if his marrow had been sucked out, as if he had stayed up for three days and three nights.

His stamina was completely drained. His body felt abnormally heavy, and he had almost no strength left.

His whole body ached with an unprecedented weakness. At the same time, his internal organs throbbed with pain, having sustained various degrees of damage.

His skin stung with burns. Even though he was wearing a Tier Three Combat Suit, which was fireproof and heat-resistant, he had still been burned.

His current condition was even more painful and weak than the last time he had used [Vajra Transformation].

These were the side effects of [Double Golden Gang Transformation]!

He sat right down on the ground.

Yue Feng didn’t ask any more questions. Instead, he quickly walked into the parking garage and began to search. He returned a moment later, having recovered only a sharp spearhead and a longsword.

At the same time, other people rushed over.

”Old Lin, what happened?” an acquaintance asked warmly.

”My brand new car!” someone wailed.

Yue Feng looked at the crowd and announced loudly, ”I am Yue Feng, Vice Hall Master of the Red Dome Martial Arts Dojo. No one is to enter this area.”

When the crowd heard he was the Vice Hall Master of the Red Dome Martial Arts Dojo and saw Lin Qi next to him, they all grew curious about what had happened.

”Little Qi, how are you feeling now?” Fang Huiyi asked with concern.

”My energy is completely spent. I need water and food!” he said weakly.

The Little Divine Power had ignited all the energy in his body, and he desperately needed to replenish it!

”Water, food!”

Upon hearing this, Lin Zhen instantly remembered the milk and snacks they had brought and immediately ran back to get them.

Lin Qi didn’t stand on ceremony. He pulled out the drinks and milk, opened them, and began to guzzle them down. He drank more than ten bottles in a row before stopping.

Next were the snacks. He ate the entire box clean.

His chest heaved as his body’s metabolism kicked into high gear, a warm feeling spreading through his stomach.

A good deal of his exhaustion finally began to fade.

Lin Qi let out a breath and searched himself, only to find a shattered potion vial. He concluded that the Healing Potion he had been carrying was lost.

A few moments later, the police arrived and secured the scene.

Yue Feng, however, carried Lin Qi on his back and headed straight for the hospital.

Meanwhile, news of the incident in Rongshan District spread like wildfire, and countless people in Celestial Sea City learned what had happened.

「An hour later」

In a spacious and luxurious hospital room, Lin Qi lay helplessly on a bed.

”Uncle Yue, I’m fine!”

Lin Qi gave a helpless, wry smile as he watched Yue Feng walk in.

”You’re the genius of our Martial Arts Dojo. You still need a thorough check-up.”

”Fortunately, you really are okay, aside from some minor burns. But the side effects of a Little Divine Power are quite severe. You’ll probably need to rest for a while.”

With that, he took out a vial filled with a green liquid and said, ”This is a High-Level Healing Potion. Drink it quickly.”

Lin Qi didn’t refuse. He took it, opened it, and drank it all in one gulp. A cool sensation quickly spread throughout his body.

A bit of strength gradually returned to his limbs, and the exhaustion and internal injuries began to heal rapidly.

’As expected of a High-Level Healing Potion, worth one million a bottle,’ Lin Qi marveled internally.

The higher the level of a Healing Potion, the better its effects—and the more expensive it is. Ordinary people could never afford to use them casually.

He himself only ever carried Mid-Level Healing Potions when he went out.

”Tell me the details. What happened?”

Yue Feng, dressed in his black Combat Suit, wore a serious expression.

Lin Qi nodded and began, ”The rest was pretty much the same as before.”

”The only difference was that his skin was dark green. It felt... inhuman.”

”Little Chan’s analysis suggested he was most likely a Fourth Realm Martial Artist, but his combat strength was incredibly high. He was much stronger than a typical Fourth Realm Martial Artist... In the end, I had to use a Little Divine Power to finally kill him, but I never expected him to self-destruct...”

Yue Feng nodded after listening. ”It seems because you haven’t had your Awakening yet, the assassin they sent wasn’t that strong.”

”Luckily, your combat power is high. Anyone else might not have been able to withstand the assassin’s surprise attack.”

”You did very well this time!”

”Who are they? The Insect God Association?” Lin Qi suddenly asked, his curiosity piqued.

His knowledge of this organization came from what Master Yue Feng had told him.

Yue Feng nodded and projected a screen from his phone. It showed three humans with different body types and skin colors.

”Besides the Calamity Beasts, the Insect Race is humanity’s other great adversary.”

”They are an enemy that lurks in the shadows, possessing an extremely high level of technology.”

”In the early days of the Martial Arts Era, they arrived on our Blue Star from the Otherworld, along with the Calamity Beasts.”

”Compared to the Calamity Beasts, the Insect Race possesses higher intelligence and is not as bloodthirsty.”

”For a time, we humans cooperated with the Insect Race, trading for a significant amount of their science and technology.”

”This greatly advanced our technological level. The most famous example is the Space Gate technology.”

”Otherwise, at humanity’s normal pace of development, it would have been impossible to research it without several hundred, or even a thousand, years.”

Lin Qi had a moment of realization. That explained it—the Space Gate technology came from the Insect Race.

”As for the assassin you encountered, he was likely a Modified Martial Artist who had taken a Genetic Potion.”

”A Modified Martial Artist?”

Lin Qi looked at the screen. The three individuals all had different colored skin.

”That’s right!” Yue Feng said slowly.

”After we humans had a falling out with the Insect Race, our Martial Arts had already fully risen. They couldn’t do anything to us, so they had no choice but to go into hiding.”

”Using their technology and resources, they tempted a group of humans into falling from grace and forming the [Insect God Association] to help them assassinate human geniuses and cause a bit of destruction.”

”Their most famous creation is the Genetic Potion, which can enhance a human’s Talent and modify their genes, giving them physical capabilities that surpass Martial Artists of the same realm.”

”Three types of Genetic Potions are the most common. The first is the Mantis Genetic Potion. After taking it, the user’s skin turns dark green when they exert their power, granting them terrifying speed.”

”The second is the Rhinoceros Beetle Genetic Potion. When a modified user exerts their power, their skin turns gold, granting them terrifying strength.”

”The third is the Beetle Gene. When the user exerts their power, their skin turns black like armor, granting them terrifying stamina and defensive capabilities.”

”The one you faced was a Modified Martial Artist with the Mantis Gene.”

”An Ordinary Martial Artist is no match for this kind of modified warrior.”
