This kind of method was also one commonly used by alchemists to improve their alchemy skills.

After all, only through repeated attempts could one possibly grasp the key to higher-level alchemy techniques and thereby improve their own abilities.

At the same time, when some alchemists wanted to refine a higher-tier pill, they would also use this method.

Because an alchemist’s level wasn’t as strictly defined as that of cultivators.

Even the assessment criteria weren’t overly rigid, except in some particularly strict regions.

In most other alchemist guilds, you’d typically be given just three sets of materials.

Whether it was due to luck or skill, as long as you could successfully refine the pill, you’d be recognized as an alchemist of that level.

So, when someone was called an alchemist of a certain grade, it simply meant that their success rate at refining pills of that grade had surpassed thirty percent.

If your success rate was below that, you’d be considered one grade lower.

Thus, an alchemist of a lower grade could, with the help of external aids, slightly increase their success rate and successfully refine a higher-tier pill.

Of course, this only applied to small jumps in level—one couldn’t leap too many tiers.

Take Han Feng, for example. Though he was a peak sixth-tier alchemist, with the help of external aids such as a Heavenly Flame and the Myriad Beast Cauldron, plus a bit of good luck, he could indeed refine low seventh-grade pills.

But if you asked him to refine a peak seventh-tier pill, such as the Life Devouring Pill—

Even if you gave him a hundred sets of materials, odds were that he’d just use them all up as practice, and not a single pill would come out of it.

Still, alchemists could also collaborate with others to refine higher-tier pills.

This was akin to two cultivators of the same level joining forces to take on a stronger enemy.

If they cooperated well, it was entirely possible to achieve victory.

Gazing at the pill cauldron before him, Lin Feng channeled orange flames into it, then tossed in the medicinal ingredients to begin refinement.

The refinement step went smoothly—no surprises. He successfully refined all the medicinal ingredients into essence.

However, starting from the fusion stage, he failed four times in a row, leaving him questioning life itself.

”It’s okay. Maybe next time will be a success.”

He consoled himself and once again picked up some medicinal essence from the side and tossed it into the cauldron to begin the fusion process.

Inside the cauldron, dozens of different-colored medicinal liquids slowly began to merge under the pressure of his soul power.

Boom!

With a dull thud, the dozens of precious herbs instantly turned into a pile of ash.

”Ugh, no worries. Again.”

He muttered to himself, then tossed in more medicinal liquid to move on to the next step.

Perhaps the earlier failures had taught him some valuable lessons, because this time the fusion went particularly smoothly.

Very soon, under the joint control of his soul power and flames, those multi-colored liquids gradually solidified into a nascent pill.

Reaching this stage meant the alchemy process was more than halfway to success.

Still, he didn’t dare relax and carefully controlled the flame’s temperature.

If he failed at this final step, he’d be devastated.

After all, this was a hard-earned success. He couldn’t let it end as a waste pill.

Half an hour later, along with the pill’s sudden release of strong energy ripples—

Crisp metallic clanging sounds rang out instantly throughout the cultivation room.

However, since Lin Feng dared to refine pills here, he had certainly already examined the room’s conditions.

The special materials used to construct Room No. 1 not only had soundproofing properties—

They could also absorb all kinds of energy fluctuations, making it impossible for people outside to sense anything going on inside.

According to his estimates, even a standard sixth-tier pill wouldn’t be noticed by people outside, so there was absolutely no need to worry about being discovered.

Once the energy surge ended, Lin Feng quickly swept the emerald-green pill into his palm, his mood lifted as he gazed at his very first Dou Spirit Pill.

”Nice. Let’s hope I can get at least one more Dou Spirit Pill out of the remaining six sets of ingredients.”

He placed the pill into a high-quality jade bottle and stored it away safely, then began a new round of refining.

Although he had gained some experience from the previous attempts, with the six remaining sets of ingredients, he still managed to produce only one more pill in the end.

After that, Lin Feng didn’t stop. He continued refining other pills that Heavenly Treasure Pavilion might need.

Time flew by quickly as the orange flames danced within the pill cauldron.

”Ding dong~”

A few days later, the bell above the cultivation room suddenly rang, startling Lin Feng, who was in the middle of pill refinement.

Realizing who might have arrived, he immediately gave up on the pill he was refining, withdrew the cauldron, and quickly walked toward the door.

”Lin Feng, here’s what you asked for. I had to run so far to get this stuff, I’m exhausted!”

As the heavy stone door creaked open, Zi Yan—whom he hadn’t seen in a long while—appeared in his line of sight.

After flipping through over a dozen posters, Lin Feng quickly gained a general understanding of the ”Three-Year Agreement” that had taken place far away, thousands of miles from here.

Gazing at the image of Xiao Yan on one of the posters, with the Bone Chilling Flame coiled around him, a surge of joy rose in Lin Feng’s heart.

As long as the fact that Xiao Yan possessed the Bone Chilling Flame became public knowledge, then his plan was already thirty percent successful.

”Come on in. Tell me all the details about the Three-Year Agreement.”

Storing all the posters into his storage ring, Lin Feng pulled Zi Yan into the cultivation room and urged her to explain everything clearly.

”Sure, but don’t forget about my pills.”

Zi Yan marched in with her short little legs, then casually slammed the heavy stone door shut behind her, reminding him with a grin.

”Don’t worry. Once I process all this information, your pills will be ready.”

Looking at the little glutton who had barely returned before asking for compensation, Lin Feng responded with an exasperated tone.

”Hehe~”

Zi Yan scratched her purple ponytail and then began to explain the details of the Three-Year Agreement.

”Heh, as expected, the older the ginger, the spicier. That old fox Yao Chen—he completely shattered the alliance between Yun Lan Sect and Hai Bodong in just a few moves.”

After listening to her recount, Lin Feng’s vigilance toward Yao Chen suddenly rose.

He quietly warned himself to keep a few extra eyes open if he ever crossed paths with that master-disciple pair.

If he got tricked by them, he’d have nowhere to cry.

Still, he was a bit surprised by Xiao Yan’s strength as a Four-Star Da Dou Shi, and by Nalan Yanran’s half-step Dou Ling cultivation.

Although he had initially wanted to cause Xiao Yan some trouble, he hadn’t expected Yun Yun to go that far—

She actually made sure Nalan Yanran won the Three-Year Agreement.

Even though, for certain reasons, the outcome was officially declared a draw—

All the powerful experts present surely understood what had truly happened.

”Hehe, Lin Feng, aside from those things earlier, I got another nice haul this time~”

Suddenly, Zi Yan let out a mischievous laugh and pulled out the treasures she had ”acquired” from the Alchemist Guild of the Jia Ma Empire.

”Holy sh*t! Where’d you get all these rare items?!”

Staring at the wide array of items now laid out on the stone platform before him, Lin Feng was stunned.

He casually picked up a few to inspect—among them were some cultivation techniques and battle skills, but most of it—

Most were extremely rare medicinal ingredients and alchemy recipes.

Some of the scrolls were even sixth-tier pill formulas.

The total value of these items... probably couldn’t even be afforded by a small nation selling off everything they had.
