VISION GRID SYSTEM: THE COMEBACK OF RYOMA TAKEDA

There is an old saying in boxing that the easiest way to make headlines is to win a championship. As it turns out, winning a purse bid by one dollar works surprisingly well too.

Long before Ryoma’s return flight leaves European airspace, the outcome of the WBO purse bid has already become the day’s biggest story across the boxing world.

Not because the winning bid is extraordinarily high. But because it is almost impossible to imagine a more infuriating way to lose.

The headlines begin appearing almost immediately.

RONIN FIGHT MANAGEMENT STUNS BOXING WORLD IN GLOBAL DEBUT

ONE DOLLAR DECIDES $15 MILLION PURSE BID

TAKEDA OUTMANEUVERS TWO PROMOTIONAL GIANTS

THE STRANGEST PURSE BID IN MODERN BOXING?

Miguel Cabello’s remarks outside WBO headquarters become one of the day’s most widely shared interviews. Asked whether he now considers himself the biggest winner after securing a guaranteed purse exceeding ten million dollars, the champion simply shakes his head.

”I have no intention of giving the belt up, no matter how much money they spent to earn the chance.”

The statement is quoted almost everywhere. Some describe it as confidence. Others call it a warning.

Alistair Vaughan proves considerably less interested in theatrics. Representing Orion Boxing Promotions, he admits that fifteen million dollars had already stretched beyond what his company believed was a reasonable valuation for the contest.

Dmitri Erzhanov, speaking on behalf of Aurora Crown Boxing Promotions, unknowingly delivers almost the same answer.

”At fifteen million, we believed we had already reached the ceiling.”

The coincidence immediately becomes another story of its own. Two of boxing’s most powerful promotional companies, operating entirely independently, had arrived at precisely the same conclusion. And Ronin Fight Management had simply arrived there, and then taken one final step.

Predictably, the internet wastes absolutely no time inventing explanations.

”Someone inside Orion leaked the number.”

”No chance. It had to be someone in the Russian camp.”

”Ryoma can apparently see the future.”

”Honestly, after today I’m not ruling that one out.”

The more serious discussion, however, comes from boxing analysts trying to explain the result without resorting to conspiracy theories.

One editorial attracts particular attention.

How Ronin Won Without Knowing Anything?

The purse bid itself offers a simpler answer.

If Orion Boxing Promotions and Aurora Crown Boxing Promotions independently concluded that US$15,000,000 represented the logical ceiling of the market, there is nothing extraordinary about Ronin Fight Management reaching exactly the same valuation.

What separated Ryoma Takeda from his competitors was not superior mathematics. It was superior paranoia.

Someone in Ronin’s camp evidently asked a question nobody else considered worth asking before the purse bid.

What if two promoters arrive at the same number? One additional dollar answered that question.

Sometimes competitive advantage costs millions. Sometimes it costs exactly one dollar.

Meanwhile, social media proves considerably less interested in measured analysis. While boxing fans continue debating market valuations and bidding strategy, a much larger crowd becomes fascinated by what they consider the truly important part of the story:

”Ryoma Takeda’s deadpan claim that he had received confidential information from someone who traveled back from the future.”

”Imagine losing fifteen million dollars because somebody had one dollar left in his pocket.”

”Dmitri Erzhanov and Alistair Vaughan probably need therapy.”

Before long, the purse bid itself is sharing the spotlight with discussions about time travel, paradoxes, and whether the young Japanese promoter had just delivered the driest joke of the year, or somehow wasn’t joking at all.

”The funniest part is that Ryoma wasn’t even smiling.”

”Forget the purse bid. I want to know who that guy from the future is.”

”Plot twist: the future guy is Ryoma himself from ten years later.”

”Netflux couldn’t write this.”

By the time the story reaches Japan, it has already begun evolving beyond the purse bid itself.

One article, published only hours after the hearing, quickly becomes the day’s most shared boxing story across the Land of the Rising Sun.

A Leak From the Future

When asked whether he had somehow obtained confidential information regarding the competing bids, Ryoma Takeda calmly admitted that he had indeed received advance knowledge.

According to the newly crowned promoter, the source was ”someone who traveled here from the future to make sure my career unfolded the way it was supposed to.”

Asked whether he could also predict the outcome of his upcoming championship fight, Takeda politely declined, explaining that revealing it might ”alter the world’s causality.”

He did, however, promise one thing.

”It’ll be the most exciting fight of the year.”

Whether Ryoma Takeda intended any of those remarks as a joke remains, perhaps appropriately, impossible to determine.

Somewhere over Europe, Ryoma Takeda is still asleep, blissfully unaware that, in the span of a single afternoon, he has become both one of boxing’s most talked-about new promoters... and, according to a surprisingly large portion of the internet, a man with unusually reliable connections to the future.

Back in Tokyo, Ronin Fight Management has no intention of letting its momentum fade. Even before Ryoma’s flight leaves European airspace, the company’s office is already moving.

They begin assembling the undercard for what promises to become the biggest boxing event Japan has hosted in years. One assignment, however, receives priority over everything else. And at that very moment, Nakahara is already on a Shinkansen bound for Osaka.

In the same time, news of Ronin’s victory in London has reached Osaka just as quickly. And Umemoto, never one to let a microphone go to waste, has no intention of missing the opportunity.

With reporters already gathered inside the gym, he wastes little time turning the conversation toward the one subject he wants everyone to hear.

”Yes, I’ve heard about it,” Umemoto says with a dismissive snort. ”But it means shit to me. Whatever reputation they’ve earned overseas, to me they’re still nothing but a bunch of cowards.”

A few reporters exchange glances before one of them smiles awkwardly.

”That’s... quite a bold statement.”

”I’m only telling the truth.”

As though determined to reinforce the accusation, Coach Ishimaru folds his arms from ringside before speaking.

”We’ve challenged Ryohei again and again. We’ve sent letters directly to his management. We’ve challenged him publicly through the media. Tell me, have they ever responded? Not once. Every single time, they found another excuse. That’s what cowards do.”

”Exactly,” Umemoto says, nodding in satisfaction. ”They know Ryohei became champion through luck. Beating Hamakawa doesn’t change that. I beat Hamakawa too, which is exactly why I’m back at the top of the contender rankings.”

A journalist raises his pen, though the grin on his face suggests he already knows the answer. ”Aren’t you worried people from Ronin Fight Management might take offense at comments like these?”

”What exactly am I supposed to fear from a bunch of cowards?” Umemoto scoffs. ”The only reason I spared you people my valuable training time today is so you could carry this message back to them.”

His finger points straight toward the cluster of cameras. ”Make sure Ryohei hears every word. Now go. You’ve got stories to write.”

Half the reporters immediately begin typing notes into their phones while others start gathering their equipment, intending to leave. But then, almost simultaneously, several of them stop.

Near the entrance stands a familiar figure, both arms folded across his chest, his face taut with barely restrained fury.

”C-Coach Nakahara...” one reporter stammers. ”How long have you been standing there?”

”Long enough to hear everything,” Nakahara says calmly.

The gym falls noticeably quieter. Even several boxers stop what they’re doing. Only Umemoto appears entirely unmoved.

”So,” Umemoto says with a smirk, ”you’ve finally stopped hiding? Getting tired of leading a bunch of cowards?”

Nakahara doesn’t answer immediately. Instead, he lets his eyes travel across the gym, taking in the reporters gathered around the ring, Coach Ishimaru watching him from the apron with open condescension, and several local Osaka journalists who seem almost delighted by the confrontation unfolding before them.

Then he exhales slowly, realizing there is no room left for a professional discussion. They have already turned this into something personal, and if that is the game they have chosen to play, then Nakahara will settle it on those terms.

”Yes,” Nakahara says calmly. ”I came here to answer your challenge. And since you’ve chosen to make your accusations in front of the press... I’ll make my answer in front of them as well.”

He takes another step into the gym. ”Ronin Fight Management is prepared to offer you ¥4,000,000 to step into the ring against my champion.”

Umemoto’s grin falters as he stares at Nakahara. He clearly hadn’t expected Ronin to put ¥4,000,000 on the table for a Japanese title rematch.

Even Coach Ishimaru falls silent for a moment, instinctively calculating how the purse would be divided. By the time Umemoto took his share, the gym would still be walking away with over a million yen. That was enough money to make even an insult worth listening to.

”But,” Nakahara continues before anyone can speak, ”there’s one condition. If Ryohei defeats you for the second time, I want a public statement from you. You will withdraw every word you’ve spoken today and apologize publicly. And that includes you, Ishimaru.”

A grin slowly spreads across Ishimaru’s face. ”And what if my fighter wins?”

”Then I’ll publicly admit that everything you said today was true,” Nakahara says.

The smile on Umemoto’s face grows even wider, extending his hand without hesitation.

”Deal. Now show me the contract. I’ll sign it right now.”

Nakahara finally walks toward the ring, unzipping the document case slung over his shoulder. But before taking out the contract, his eyes drift toward the assembled reporters.

”Make sure you print every word he said today. And every word I just said.”

He slides the contract from the folder and places it on the ring apron.

”That way... all of you can serve as witnesses.”
