Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Zhao Nuanyue was dumbfounded. Although Hua Yusen didn’t say who it was specifically, she could guess. What kind of people were these?

People could be so sinister.

”Then... are we in great danger?” A chill ran down Zhao Nuanyue’s spine. ”Are we going to die?”

Having been reborn, Zhao Nuanyue wanted to carve out a new life for herself. She wanted her brother to live a peaceful life, she hoped Hua Yusen would be safe and sound, and she dreamed of a future with him.

Sensing Zhao Nuanyue’s fear and terror, Hua Yusen gently wrapped an arm around her, comforting her in a soft voice. ”Do you remember the last time I almost died? You were the one who saved me!”

”I remember. You were severely injured. If Nuanyang and I hadn’t gone out to dig for wild vegetables that morning, we never would have found you, let alone saved you.” Zhao Nuanyue nodded, clasping her hands together. ”Thank heavens, thank the earth, that I went out that day!”

”That’s right. I was lucky to have you then, or I would have been long dead.” Hua Yusen nodded. ”That time, it was because those people were going after Elder Gu. After we rescued him, we pursued the assassins, but we were ambushed. I took out a few of them, but was gravely wounded myself. The incident caught the attention of ’that person,’ who took the opportunity to reprimand those troublemakers with ulterior motives and explicitly forbid any harm to come to Elder Gu’s life.”

”Huh?” Zhao Nuanyue’s mouth fell slightly open as she stared at Hua Yusen in disbelief. ’So there was such a complex situation behind your serious injuries.’ ”My god, that’s so dangerous. But your life and Elder Gu’s safety bought a period of temporary peace.”

”Yes.” Hua Yusen nodded. ”When those people saw that assassination wouldn’t work, they started using these kinds of methods to humiliate Elder Gu, trying to make him die from a fit of rage.”

”Their intentions are truly sinister!” A chill ran down Zhao Nuanyue’s spine again. For a proud man who had once rendered meritorious service, that kind of torment was the ultimate humiliation.

If one’s will wasn’t strong enough, death was the only way out.

”Exactly. That’s why I often tried to console Elder Gu privately, telling him to look on the bright side,” Hua Yusen said, ”but it wasn’t very effective. However, since coming to Nianqiao Village, your and Nuanyang’s presence has brought more smiles to his face. The way you strive to live earnestly and protect Nuanyang has helped him come to terms with many things. A true hero knows when to yield and when to stand firm. So, during this time, even though he has to work every day, Elder Gu has been in good spirits and his mood is much better.”

”Huh?” Zhao Nuanyue could hardly believe her ears. ’So I had such a significant effect?’ ”You must be teasing me. I’m just an ordinary girl. How could I have that much of an impact?”

Hua Yusen turned his head and gently kissed Zhao Nuanyue’s forehead. He whispered, ”Nuanyue, you’ve never realized the positive, indomitable resilience you possess. You might cry, you might shed tears, but after facing a setback, you wipe them away and bravely press forward. That is your most precious quality, it’s what I love about you, and it’s what Elder Gu admires in you.”

Zhao Nuanyue was utterly stunned by Hua Yusen’s words.

’My god, in Hua Yusen’s heart, I actually have such a noble image?’

’My god, in Elder Gu’s heart, I actually have such a resilient character?’

But how could she not know this about herself? She never considered herself strong or capable. It was just that whenever she encountered a problem, she would rush forward without a second thought. Even if she hit a wall or faced difficulties, she always believed that since heaven had granted her a second chance, it couldn’t have been to repeat the miserable life of her past. Therefore, it would surely help her at critical moments.

If she broke through, a different life awaited. If she failed, she would likely repeat the mistakes of her past. That was why Zhao Nuanyue could only charge forward without hesitation—because there was no turning back.

This belief had been proven right time and again, which only strengthened her resolve.

”Heh, surprised?” Hua Yusen chuckled. ”Can’t believe it, can you?”

”I can’t believe it.” Zhao Nuanyue nodded. ”It’s just... it’s just so shocking! I never thought you saw me in such a good light, or that Elder Gu did too!”

”Heh, like I said, you never knew how outstanding and intelligent you really are,” Hua Yusen said proudly. ”I’ve heard Old Sir Qian and Old Madam Qian praise you behind your back more than once. They said that you and Nuanyang are both incredibly bright, and once you’ve completed your studies, you’ll surely become pillars of the country!”

”Huh?” Zhao Nuanyue was stunned again. ”Old Sir Qian and Old Madam Qian praise me too? How come I never knew?”

”Heh, of course they said it behind your back. The reason they don’t say it to your face is probably because they don’t want you to become proud and complacent.” Hua Yusen chuckled lightly. ”Alright, be more confident from now on. Don’t be so insecure like you used to be. Always remember, you’re more outstanding than many people, myself included!”

”No...” Zhao Nuanyue shook her head. ”I’m not as outstanding as you all imagine. You’re giving me too much credit.”

Hua Yusen caught Zhao Nuanyue’s fidgeting hand. He said with a broad smile, ”Heh, you silly girl. You don’t even believe it when others praise you. Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore. As time goes on, you’ll definitely realize just how outstanding you are!”

Hearing Hua Yusen’s words, Zhao Nuanyue fell silent, her expression calming considerably.

’Maybe... maybe what Hua Yusen said is true?’

A secret joy bloomed in Zhao Nuanyue’s heart. If that was the case, then she was full of confidence for the future.

The two of them walked back to the Dragon King Temple, hand in hand.

Zhao Nuanyue was quiet the whole way, pondering what Hua Yusen had told her.

Those words of encouragement, of validation, slowly transformed Zhao Nuanyue’s insecure heart, filling it with confidence.

As long as she worked hard and put her heart into it, she could become even more outstanding. She would no longer be the timid puppet from her previous life, manipulated by others.

When they got back to the Dragon King Temple, Zhao Nuanyue pulled her hand from Hua Yusen’s, and they entered one after the other.

Sure enough, Yang Guanghui, Li Qiong, and Wang Yuan weren’t asleep. They were waiting for Hua Yusen and Zhao Nuanyue, wanting to know why Miao Dahai had summoned them to the village.

Seeing that everyone was waiting for them, Hua Yusen and Zhao Nuanyue had no choice but to enter the main hall.

The moment Li Qiong saw Zhao Nuanyue, she asked anxiously, ”Nuanyue, what did Uncle Miao call you for? Hurry and tell us. If you need any help, you have to say so. Don’t be shy. After all, we’re all strangers in a strange land. It’s fate that we’re all together, like family.”
