Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Wang Dadan wasn’t afraid of Gu Qingyu’s threats at all. In fact, he hoped the old man would cause a scene and hit someone. That way, they’d have an excuse to deal with Gu Qingyu.

Li Siming retorted sarcastically, ”Oh my, I’m so scared! A disobedient person like you daring to fight people with proper and upright backgrounds like us—you’ve got some nerve. Today, we’re going to teach you a lesson and make you realize your mistake.”

With that, Wang Dadan and Li Siming charged at Gu Qingyu. They had finally found the perfect opportunity and certainly weren’t going to let it go. They had to teach these old geezers a lesson and show everyone that they weren’t just freeloaders, but were useful, too. Only then could they get more benefits and more resources.

Gu Qingyu’s temperament, of course, couldn’t stand such a provocation. He swung his carrying pole and started striking at Li Siming and Wang Dadan, trying to give the two of them a good beating before the other villagers arrived.

Gu Qingyu was no ordinary man. His aura and killing intent were not something that country bumpkins like Li Siming and Wang Dadan, who had only ever known their own little puddle, could ever compare to.

Sun Haoran was coming down from the mountain with his herb basket when he saw Li Siming and Wang Dadan fighting Gu Qingyu. He was startled and initially wanted to help, but he realized that wouldn’t solve the problem. He needed to hurry and get the other villagers.

”Li Siming and Wang Dadan are beating someone to death! Help! They’re killing someone...!” Regardless of who started it, Sun Haoran yelled this, creating a first impression for the villagers that Wang Dadan and Li Siming were stirring up trouble and bullying them for no reason.

The crowd of people busy with spring plowing heard Sun Haoran’s shouts and quickly reported it to Miao Dahai and Aunt Li.

Hua Yusen, Yang Guanghui, and Zhao Nuanyang were working. They grabbed their shovels and ran toward the livestock team’s area.

”Those people are a task the village assigned to us volunteers. I have to go check on them. I can’t let Wang Dadan and Li Siming cause any trouble,” Hua Yusen said, then took the lead and ran ahead. ”Guanghui, help me watch Nuanyang. Don’t let him run off.”

Hua Yusen hadn’t forgotten about Zhao Nuanyang; Zhao Nuanyue herself had entrusted him to his care. If anything happened to Zhao Nuanyang, Zhao Nuanyue would be furious.

”Okay, I’ll watch Nuanyang. Hua, don’t be reckless either,” Yang Guanghui called out from behind him as he and Zhao Nuanyang followed.

While working, Zhao Nuanyue submerged her Divine Sense into the water, letting it wander aimlessly, hoping to get a sense of all the goings-on in Nianqiao Village.

Suddenly, her Divine Sense saw Hua Yusen running toward the livestock team’s area with a shovel, and she knew something had happened to the old folks.

At that moment, Li Guihua, who was leading the work team, was also alerted. She dropped the rake in her hands, hastily wiped the sweat from her face with a towel, and hurried over.

Feeling uneasy, Zhao Nuanyue followed, catching up to Li Guihua.

”Aunt Li, did something happen to the old folks?” Zhao Nuanyue asked, turning her head toward Li Guihua as they walked quickly.

Li Guihua paused, surprised. ”How did you know?” she asked in return.

”I saw people running toward the livestock team’s area. You and Village Chief Miao entrusted those people to us, and now it looks like there’s trouble. I’m worried, so I wanted to go with you and see,” Zhao Nuanyue replied, a look of anxiety on her face.

Hearing Zhao Nuanyue’s words, Li Guihua smiled and nodded. ”That’s good. You’re a responsible young woman. I only heard that Wang Dadan and Li Siming were hitting the old folks. As for why, I’m not sure. We should go see for ourselves.”

Hearing this, rage flared in Zhao Nuanyue’s heart. ’Those utterly shameless bastards. Their legs have just healed and they’re already stirring up trouble again. Tonight, I must discuss this with Hua Yusen. We’ll make them break their legs again, maybe paralyze them from the waist down this time. Let’s see what they can do then!’

”Mm,” Zhao Nuanyue simply responded. In front of Li Guihua, she couldn’t show too much concern, lest Li Guihua see through her.

In truth, Li Guihua was also very anxious. The old folks had just started to settle down in Nianqiao Village. But of course, Wang Dadan and Li Siming had to be restless and pick on them of all people.

Why was that?

’Could it be... could it be that someone was pulling the strings behind Wang Dadan and Li Siming?’

’It’s just like the letter I received from my son, telling me and Miao Dahai to treat those few people well. That’s why Village Chief Miao and I have been covertly improving the elders’ situation. So, with Wang Dadan and Li Siming repeatedly causing trouble, does that mean someone is pulling their strings, too?’

The more Li Guihua thought about it, the more plausible it seemed, and her heart began to race. If that were the case, then things were far more complicated.

Lost in their own thoughts, Li Guihua and Zhao Nuanyue ran toward the livestock team’s area.

By the time they got there, Miao Dahai and the others had already arrived.

Old Madam Qian had fainted from the shock. Seeing his wife collapse, Old Sir Qian was grief-stricken, his face streaked with tears.

Gu Qingyu, the one who had been fighting Wang Dadan and Li Siming, was being held back by others.

Seeing Gu Qingyu restrained, Wang Dadan was instantly emboldened. He rushed forward and aimed a kick at Gu Qingyu’s stomach.

The villagers who saw this were also shocked. No one expected Wang Dadan to keep attacking after the fight had been broken up. No wonder Sun Haoran had just been shouting that Wang Dadan and Li Siming were trying to kill them.

Over the past few days, the old folks had been participating in the work, and the villagers had seen their efforts. The average villager’s thinking was simple: it was better to support a few people who could work than a few who were just freeloaders. This way, they could lighten the village’s burden.

With these people helping, the village could raise a few more pigs and sheep, and Sun Haoran could gather more medicinal herbs to sell in Nianqiao Village’s name.

Nianqiao Village had very little arable land, so anyone who could gather things to trade for money and goods was considered a good villager.

For Wang Dadan and Li Siming to just start a fight like that was going too far.

If Gu Qingyu hadn’t been held back, Wang Dadan would never have had the chance to kick him. Just as Wang Dadan’s foot was about to connect with Gu Qingyu, Hua Yusen pushed through the crowd, raised his leg, and kicked Wang Dadan squarely on the calf.

”AGH—!” Wang Dadan let out a blood-curdling scream, like a pig being slaughtered. He fell flat on his butt and sat on the ground, clutching his leg and yelling, ”You... You dare hit me...? Do you have any idea what we’re doing here? How dare you hit me!”

Li Siming rushed forward. Now that Hua Yusen had jumped in, all his old and new grudges surged up. He cursed, ”You’re one of the bad guys, too...!”

When the villagers heard Li Siming say this, they were reminded that these old folks were struggle targets. Even if they sympathized with them, they didn’t dare say anything more, lest they bring trouble upon themselves. One by one, they all took a few steps back.
