The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 714: Chapter 714: Something’s Not Right

Ji You finally said these last few sentences entirely for the benefit of Ren An and others standing behind Zhong Qing.

She wasn’t very familiar with the character of this group of members and hadn’t had much contact with them, but with just a quick glance, Ji You could tell there was discord within the group. Captain Zhong Qing was too soft and couldn’t hold people down, and vice captain Ren Anxin was too proud to submit to others...

Ji You, of course, wouldn’t meddle with other people’s teams, but now that they were seeking shelter in her own team’s residence, they couldn’t stir up any more trouble.

Saying the ugly words upfront was also a precaution.

...

After Zhong Qing and the other 10 people entered the room, Ji You cleared out half of the space for them to use. These people might have truly been exhausted; after drying their clothes, they could not resist the urge to sleep, and soon, snoring could be heard...

The entire team, with the exception of Zhong Qing, had fallen asleep.

Ji You’s group, however, didn’t sleep right away. They sat on the other side, glanced at each other, and Ji You took the initiative to ask, ”Zhong Qing classmate, are you saying that Teacher Mu ordered this rain to stop after three hours?”

Zhong Qing nodded: ”Yes. Teacher Mu said so herself.”

Ji You raised her hand to her chin and continued to ask, ”As for the other teams without shelter, have most of them found someone to take them in?”

Speaking of this, Zhong Qing’s face showed a touch of discomfort. Their team had been rejected seven or eight times in a row before they finally found shelter, but—

But they were robbed of half of their food for the future.

However!!! Compared to tomorrow’s assessment, the assessment is still more important; they must find a place to sleep tonight to be energetic for the assessment.

Zhong Qing didn’t know whether to feel relieved or depressed.

Zhong Qing didn’t understand why Ji You was asking this and just nodded, ”Yes. Most of the students have already found a place to stay. Look, there aren’t many students running around outside now anymore.”

”Um—” Ji You glanced at Zhong Qing’s teammates who had completely passed out and said, ”That means, right now, about 90% of the students are asleep.”

Beside her, Chu Jiaojiao raised her hand and pointed at Ren An and the others, laughing and adding, ”Look—so other students are just like this group of sleeping pigs across from us.”

Shen Changqing said in a low voice, ”Something isn’t right.”

At this time, Zhong Qing was also very sleepy and her eyelids were fighting each other. Hearing the people from Group 44 discussing, she felt a bit puzzled, and forcing herself to be alert, she asked, ”What... What’s strange?”

Ji You straightforwardly said, ”The whole camp, all sleeping like dead pigs, with no guard up at all, if some crisis arises, do you think it could wipe us all out in one fell swoop?”

”Ah?” Zhong Qing was startled, her sleepiness vanishing halfway: ”It... It shouldn’t, right? Teacher Mu said it’s just a bit of rain, there shouldn’t be any problem.”

Because Teacher Mu said there would be no death, telling the students not to make a fuss about it, that’s why the students were sleeping so peacefully.

Ji You couldn’t help but sigh: ”How naive! Can you trust what Teacher Mu says?”

Yue Qiguang interjected brazenly, ”Everyone’s word can be trusted, it’s just that old hag’s words that can’t!”

Ji You smirked and said, ”See, even Yue Qiguang understands.”

Yue Qiguang furrowed his brows: ”What do you mean by that, Number 4444, you fool?”

Before Ji You could speak, Yue Qiyuan gave his dim-witted brother a sidelong glance and said, ”It means you’ve finally gotten a clue.”

Yue Qiguang: ”...”

Yue Qiguang: ”Yue Qiyuan shut up!”

The team members were not at all interested in the infighting between the twins; they all lowered their heads to think.

After a moment of silence, Shen Changqing said, ”I think we should arrange for our team to take turns keeping watch at night.”

Lou was surprised: ”Is that really necessary?”

Ji You asserted: ”Very necessary!”

Hearing that Ji You and Shen Changqing both thought so, of course, everyone else agreed.

After pondering for a moment, Ji You said, ”Not everyone needs to keep watch; we still need to retain most of our combat strength for tomorrow. So, how about this! Little Zhouzhou, our team’s only investigator, and traitor brother will take turns on watch, I’ll be with Little Zhouzhou for the first half of the night, and Shen Changqing and Zhang Ye will take over for the second half.”

”Everyone else, sleep!” Ji You said firmly, then added, ”Hurry up and sleep!”

The crowd nodded: ”Alright!”

Outside, the thunderstorm continued, and inside the house, the sound of deep sleep soon filled the air.

Ji You carefully listened to the sounds outside, but with the loud rain and thunder, it was simply impossible to make out anything.

After some thought, Ji You said, ”Little Zhouzhou, stay alert and watch the surroundings. I’ll go out and take a look.”

Xuzhou stood up: ”I’ll go.”

It was dark and the path was slippery, with a heavy rain and wind lashing outside. Xuzhou felt a little uncomfortable sending a girl out to explore while he stayed behind in safety.

Ji You waved her hand and firmly said, ”I am the Captain! You follow orders.”

Xuzhou: ”...”

Ji You had already walked to the door, and before stepping out, she reminded, ”Remember, if anything feels off, wake them up immediately!”

Xuzhou couldn’t help but ask, ”Where are you going?”

Ji You turned her head, teasing with a chuckle, ”Kid, are you worried about Barbie?”

Xuzhou: ”...”

Xuzhou’s face darkened.

Ji You stopped joking and said, ”I’m mainly going to check on Teacher Mu. I’ll be back soon.”

With that, Ji You strode out the door.

Ji You had a set of protective clothing on her that wasn’t part of the shared supplies, which was just right for shielding against the wind and rain. Upon stepping out, she didn’t head straight to Teacher Mu Jianling but circled around the entire camp, observing the surroundings.

The rain continuously washed over the ground, and in the pitch darkness of the night, it was impossible to discern the state of the campsite with the naked eye. Standing at the edge of the camp, Ji You released her Six Spiritual Threads.

The Spiritual Network spread out in full force—

meter.

meters.

meters.

...

meters!

This was currently the maximum distance Ji You’s Spiritual Network could reach.

Nothing unusual.

Ji You frowned in thought for a while.

Then.

She meticulously explored along the periphery of the entire camp, inch by inch, leaving no stone unturned.

Still, nothing was found.

The consumption of spiritual power was a bit heavy. Ji You raised her hand to rub her brow.

Afterward.

She walked towards the largest and most luxurious tent in the whole camp, also the only one.

There were no lights on in the tent, shrouded in darkness, and it was impossible to see inside.

Ji You stood at the entrance, hesitating whether to call out or not, but thinking of Teacher Mu’s temperament, she abandoned the idea of waking anyone.

She listened carefully at the door and could hear a faint breathing sound inside, very shallow.

Was Teacher Mu sound asleep?

Ji You turned to leave—

After a pause, she decided to make sure whether someone was inside or not. She turned back, spreading her Spiritual Threads again, extending them into the tent—

Suddenly—

A cool voice from inside the tent, clearly displeased at being woken, reached her: ”If there’s something, speak up. If not, get lost!”

Ji You: ”...”

Ji You laughed it off: ”No worries, no worries, keep sleeping, I’m getting lost right away.”

With that, Ji You quickly took her leave.
