Reborn As Super Heiress

A woman who looked barely in her early twenties claimed she was a colonel, and with her was a group who claimed to be special forces from the Falcon Team. Such a badass bunch actually showing up in Xiakan Village, and on top of that getting besieged by a mob of thugs—how could this whole thing not sound completely fantastical?

But in fact, the moment he saw Yu Fei and his men, this SWAT captain already believed seventy to eighty percent of what Huo Sining had said.

He came up through SWAT, so of course he could sense that special aura coming off Yu Fei’s group—that mix of lethal chill and righteous discipline that only people from a special forces unit would have.

It’s just that this riot response was a directive issued straight from the provincial level; even the Municipal Party Secretary and the Director of the Public Security Bureau had personally come down, which showed how serious the matter was. He didn’t dare rely on his own judgment alone and jump to conclusions.

”Of course I’ve got proof.” Huo Sining smiled, took out her officer’s ID from her pocket, then tilted her head and jerked her chin at Yu Fei and the others. ”Yu Fei, give me your officer’s IDs too.”

Yu Fei and the others hurriedly pulled their respective officer’s IDs out of their trouser pockets and handed them to Huo Sining.

As Huo Sining and Yu Fei’s group were taking out their IDs, that SWAT captain kept his expression taut, afraid that what these people pulled from their pockets wouldn’t be documents but weapons.

Only when he saw that what they produced were small blue booklets did the SWAT captain finally let out a breath of relief.

He stepped forward and carefully opened and checked each of the officer’s IDs in Huo Sining’s hand. When he finally flipped to Huo Sining’s colonel ID and saw the steel-embossed seal on it, he couldn’t help but gape, looking genuinely shocked.

Which was understandable. From the ID he could see Huo Sining’s date of birth and knew the woman in front of him was only twenty-two. This young and already a colonel—this was way over the top!

Of all the officers he’d ever heard of, she was the youngest with the highest rank; a colonel this young, you probably couldn’t find a second one in all of China!

By now this SWAT captain understood why the province had suddenly issued such an order, sending them to handle this riot. The real reason, most likely, was standing right in front of him.

Having figured it out, the SWAT captain closed the officer’s IDs in his hand, then suddenly raised his arm and snapped off a salute to Huo Sining, calling out:

”Greetings, Commander!”

Huo Sining’s rank was colonel, far higher than that of a SWAT squad captain. That one ”Commander” was something she definitely deserved.

Huo Sining gave a faint ”mm,” without the slightest awkwardness. In fact, after going through so many incidents, she’d long since gotten used to this second identity of hers.

Back when Master Lu had given her this ID as compensation, Huo Sining hadn’t felt it was of any use at all. It was like a chicken rib—tasteless yet a pity to discard—and she’d even been rather disdainful of it.

But in reality, this thing had played a huge role in her hands, getting her out of tight spots many times.

The SWAT captain turned around and signaled for the soldiers behind him to lower their muzzles and not aim them at Huo Sining’s group. Only then did he report to Huo Sining:

”Commander, sorry to have scared you. Secretary Du and our Bureau Chief Tan are here too. I still need to go and brief the leaders and see how we’re going to deal with these rioters. I must ask you to wait here for a moment.”

Seeing this, Huo Sining didn’t make things difficult for him; she simply nodded and said:

”All right, that’s how it should be. Go on then.”

By this time, Municipal Party Secretary Du Wenfeng and Tan Minghui had already walked over, accompanied by the instructor of the Armed Police squadron.

The SWAT captain ran over at a trot, saluted, then handed Huo Sining’s group’s officer’s IDs to Du Wenfeng, saying:

”Reporting, Commander: the people over there claim to be active-duty officers. Eleven of them are NCOs of the 27th Group Army’s Falcon Team, and there is one colonel from the 24th Army Tuan of the Imperial Capital Military District. These are their officer’s IDs!”

Du Wenfeng froze for a moment, took the IDs and opened them to look. When he saw Huo Sining’s ID—especially the page with the official military seal of the Guard Bureau stamped on it—he couldn’t help shuddering all over.

He was now even more convinced that what that guy surnamed Gao had said—that Huo Sining was Chief Lu’s god-granddaughter—was actually true!

If it were fake, how could a girl barely over twenty become a colonel in the Imperial Capital Military District? And certified by the Guard Bureau, no less. This thing was basically an imperial immunity token—without that level of connection, what ordinary person could possibly get something like this?

Holding this officer’s ID, which was clearly very light, Du Wenfeng felt as if it weighed a thousand pounds. His heart trembled slightly, and he almost couldn’t restrain himself from whipping out his phone right then and snapping a photo of it as a keepsake.

But with so many people watching, he really didn’t dare pull a stunt like that.

After steadying his mood, Du Wenfeng hurriedly said:

”Let’s go, we need to get over there, quick!!”

Du Wenfeng and his group strode over to the tea garden clearing and soon arrived in front of Huo Sining.

By now, at the instructor’s signal, the SWAT officers had already fallen back to both sides. The more than one hundred black-clad thugs had long since been subdued by the uniformed officers, but the remaining SWAT members still ringed Huo Sining, maintaining a high level of vigilance.

Du Wenfeng walked straight up to Huo Sining and handed her ID back to her, his voice a bit tense as he said:

”Miss Huo, I’m Du Wenfeng, Municipal Party Secretary of Dali City. You... you’re not hurt, are you?”

Huo Sining said mildly, ”Thank you for your concern, Secretary Du, I’m fine. But my companion took a few superficial injuries. Also, because the situation was urgent and I couldn’t let these punks get their way, I had no choice but to fire my gun...”

Hearing that Huo Sining was fine, Du Wenfeng immediately let out a long breath. Only then did he feel a chill down his back—on this winter day, his clothes from inside to out were completely soaked with cold sweat!

In fact, ever since he’d called Old Gao and learned that this woman might be the Chief’s god-granddaughter, he’d been in a state of extreme mental tension, terrified that if he arrived even a moment too late, things would spiral into an irreparable disaster.

Now that he knew Huo Sining was all right, his nerves instantly loosened.

Du Wenfeng was, after all, a deputy department–level cadre who’d seen his share of big scenes, but after this battle today, he felt as if his whole body had been hollowed out and he was about to collapse.

He nodded repeatedly, exclaiming with relief, ”It’s good you’re all right, good, very good.”

As for Huo Sining firing her gun, he didn’t care in the least.

It was just a bunch of troublemaking punks; injuring a few of them was no big deal. As long as Huo Sining didn’t pursue his dereliction of duty, even if someone got killed, he could still smooth things over for her.
