Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 150: Chapter 147: Making Another Enemy

Wu Linger had just been humiliated by Gu Xu, and she was in a foul mood, wandering aimlessly around the Bright Bid Area when she unexpectedly spotted that woman Huo Sining squatting in front of a display, seemingly examining the rough stone.

Although she had already learned from Ye Zixin that Huo Sining was Su Jinyuan’s cousin, Wu Linger still vividly remembered how, during the last auction, Huo Sining had humiliated her in front of Zhou Mei and Ye Zixin.

On top of that, a few days ago on Pingzhou Jade Street, Huo Sining had also been cold and dismissive toward her, which made Wu Linger very displeased.

She found Huo Sining very unpleasant to look at, but since this woman was a relative of the Su Family, although Wu Linger had talked tough to Huo Sining, she didn’t dare to actually do anything.

Now, seeing that Huo Sining was actually buying a gambling stone, Wu Linger’s eyes lit up with an idea.

Although I can’t teach you a lesson, I can still annoy you, so Wu Linger quickly stepped in front of Huo Sining and embraced the piece of pork-belly-skinned stone in her arms.

“Boss, how much for this stone? I’m buying it!” Seeing Huo Sining dilly-dallying in front of the display, Wu Linger guessed that Huo Sining must be very interested in buying this gambling stone, so she hurriedly called out to the middle-aged boss.

After saying this, she hooked her lips in a smug smile at Huo Sining, as if ridiculing Huo Sining for being a fool.

“What are you doing?” Huo Sining furiously said upon hearing this, “I was here first. Don’t you know the rules?”

In the world of stone gambling, there is an unwritten rule of first-come, first-served. If someone is still examining a rough stone, another person is not allowed to jump in and buy it, and the circle will not tolerate breaking the norm due to ignorance.

By doing this, Wu Linger was clearly violating these rules, yet she looked smug and unaware. Seeing Huo Sining get angry, she tilted her head provocatively and said, “I don’t care about your rules. I just like this stone, can’t I buy it? Boss, this rough stone is 150,000, right? I’ll transfer the money to you right now!”

“This…” The middle-aged boss, though eager to make money, also didn’t dare to break the rules. He was a member of the trading center and attended the stone-gambling fairs every year. If he broke the rules and received complaints from customers, he wouldn’t be able to stay in this business next year.

“How can you behave like this? We were here first; even if you want to buy it, you should at least wait until we leave, right?!” Bai Yishan frowned uncontrollably.

Huo Sining was also upset. She couldn’t believe she would encounter such an annoying nutcase while buying a stone. Thinking about the jadeite within the rough stone made Huo Sining reluctant to just let it go—how could she willingly give it up?

“I saw this rough stone first. Do you think you’re the only one with money? Boss, I’m taking this rough stone for 200,000!” Huo Sining gritted her teeth and held up two fingers.

200,000?! The boss was startled upon hearing this, his eyes filled with both shock and delight. His piece of rough stone was worth at most 100,000, and the extra bits he had thrown in could fetch 150,000 at best. He had never expected to encounter such a windfall of two women bidding against each other.

The middle-aged boss had seen a lot in his life and could tell that Wu Linger and Huo Sining were fighting over something, and based on their interaction, it was clear the two must have a grudge between them, possibly over some young love affair.

A fool would pass up free money, and the boss, being a shrewd businessman, was delighted to see Huo Sining and Wu Linger locking horns. So he didn’t rush to make a statement but instead watched Wu Linger, waiting for the girl to raise the bid.

“Ningning?” Bai Yishan was also taken aback hearing Huo Sining bid 200,000. She looked at Huo Sining, puzzled, unsure what play Huo Sining was putting on.

She distinctly remembered Huo Sining shaking her head at her just now, which indicated that there probably wasn’t any jadeite in this rough stone, so why did Huo Sining continue to bid?

Wu Linger didn’t understand gambling on stones, and this time she came with Zhou Zhen and Ye Zixin purely for fun. She bid before Huo Sining simply to provoke her on purpose, to annoy Huo Sining a bit. She never expected Huo Sining to actually fall for it.

Wu Linger immediately raised her chin in arrogance, “It’s just two hundred thousand, isn’t it? It’s not like I can’t afford it. I’ll add another fifty thousand!”

Huo Sining’s expression instantly darkened. She glanced at the rough stones on the display, gritted her teeth, and held up three fingers, “I’ll pay double the price, three hundred thousand! If you dare, then follow that!”

Wu Linger’s original intent was to drive up the price and make Huo Sining bleed once, but now she felt something was amiss. It was obvious she was arguing with Huo Sining—surely that woman couldn’t miss that, so why was she so eager to keep raising the bid to buy this stone?

Wu Linger looked at the rough stone next to her with uncertainty and suspicion. Could it be that there really was jadeite inside it?

At that thought, Wu Linger shivered inside. Her eyes fixed intently on Huo Sining, and sure enough, she saw that woman’s fists clenched tight and her eyes unblinkingly staring at the rough stone in her hand, appearing extremely anxious.

The more Wu Linger thought about it, the more convinced she became that her guess was correct. A glint appeared in her eyes, and a thought flashed through her mind. A smirk formed on her lips, and she looked at Huo Sining provocatively, “Bid then, bid. Do you think I’m afraid of you? I’m bidding five hundred thousand! I’m claiming this rough stone!”

A glint of determination flashed in Wu Linger’s eyes. She felt that whatever was making Huo Sining so anxious and desperate must indicate an issue with the rough stone. In that case, rather than letting Huo Sining make a fortune off it, she might as well swoop in and snatch it for herself!

Idiot!

Seeing Wu Linger bid five hundred thousand all at once, disdain immediately appeared in Huo Sining’s eyes.

From the moment Wu Linger started fixating on that rough stone, Huo Sining knew what this woman was up to. She deliberately pretended to be very anxious about the stone, and sure enough, Wu Linger, that simpleton, took the bait easily.

Observing that the woman’s focus was all on the stone, Huo Sining was in no rush. That woman surely didn’t know that the real value lay in the extras.

Since that was the case, she would do a small favor and help the seller drive up the price to earn a bit more—noblesse oblige. After all, there was nothing in that stone.

With a smile on her lips, Huo Sining said, “Five hundred thousand, very good. The rough stone is yours, Miss Wu! I hope this isn’t just an empty promise you’re making. Words are air; you’d better pay up to the seller quickly!”

Wu Linger was still eagerly waiting for Huo Sining to raise her bid, when suddenly she was met with such a remark from Huo Sining, leaving her stunned.

Huo Sining’s eyes held a mocking amusement as she looked at her, her gaze filled with ridicule. Wu Linger immediately realized, it was all on purpose!

Huo Sining intentionally put on a show for her, to dig her a hole and watch her jump right in, and she had fallen for it!
