Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 149: Chapter 146: Bundling Sales

Huo Sining had no idea that Gu Xu had run into that silly girl Wu Linger; she was squatting in front of a middle-aged man’s stall, curiously inspecting it.

This was yet another strange stall that Huo Sining saw, which, besides a large piece of uncut jade, was messily piled with several small pieces.

The big piece of uncut jade was placed in the middle, with lao chang kou wax skin, a foot and a half square, and Huo Sining did not count the small pieces next to it, but there appeared to be at least a dozen, varying in quality and ranging from at most four kilograms to as small as an egg.

At a glance, it was a messy array, but most importantly, these uncut pieces were placed together on a stand with a price tag of 125,000.

One piece of wax skin being sold for 150,000, to tell the truth, wasn’t a low price, but Huo Sining was quite interested in those small pieces, so out of curiosity, she couldn’t help but ask the owner, “How are you selling these?”

The middle-aged man didn’t even lift his head, “The one in the middle is 150,000. If you buy it, I’ll throw in these small ones for free.”

...

Huo Sining and Bai Yishan exchanged glances, finding the situation quite novel.

Selling raw jade wasn’t like selling vegetables at the market where including a little something extra was not customary.

Although you could bargain when buying uncut jade, as a seller, you were absolutely not going to easily agree to include a bonus for the buyer.

Because before any piece of gamble stone is cut, no one can be sure whether the raw material will increase in value.

Even the smallest and most inconspicuous piece of raw material, if sold as a bonus, could contain a jade of immeasurable value, which would leave the seller spitting blood in regret.

So unless the seller sees a profit to be made, they wouldn’t actively offer an extra bonus.

But in reality, this kind of bundled sale isn’t favored by the buyers. Clearly, tagging a slightly better-performing raw piece with a high price and then forcing a bunch of useless ones onto you is not something anyone would be pleased with.

The wool comes from the sheep, these bonuses seem tempting, as if they were given to you for free, but in fact, they were already calculated into the buyer’s cost.

Take the stand at hand, that piece of wax skin was originally supposed to be around 100,000, but with these added bonuses, it had risen to 150,000.

Moreover, because of this bundling sales method, if the buyer is interested in that piece of wax skin, they must buy it at a price 50,000 higher than its actual worth while also having to take those bonuses that you can’t refuse.

Huo Sining didn’t say no, as long as these raw materials were worth the price of 150,000, she didn’t mind buying them.

Huo Sining gave Bai Yishan a look, and Bai Yishan glanced at the bottled water in her hand, shook her head, and suddenly, her eyes sparkled with a cunning plan.

“Uncle, your raw materials are too dirty, all covered with dust and sand, you can’t see the patterns at all. Do you have any water to clean the dirt off these stones?”

Huo Sining was stunned when she heard Bai Yishan’s words, then the corners of her mouth twitched upwards involuntarily, instinctively wanting to give Bai Yishan a thumbs up in appreciation.

Her way of examining raw materials was too peculiar, and doing this in front of so many people might be fine once or twice, but if done too frequently, it might attract undue attention.

But having the owner do it wouldn’t raise eyebrows; the rationale was solid—unable to see the raw materials’ patterns, no one could find fault with that.

It was a reasonable request to wash the rough stones. The store owner, even after hearing the request, would at most think the customer was being picky, feeling somewhat reluctant, but wouldn’t suspect any ulterior motives.

Indeed, upon hearing Bai Yishan’s words, the middle-aged man just furrowed his brows, looked up at Bai Yishan, and muttered unwillingly, “You can tell this lady is a newbie, lacking experience is one thing, but making so many demands. It’s just buying some rough stones, no need to be so picky!”

While complaining, the owner still turned around, fetched a small basin not far away, filled it with water, and used a rag to wipe the stones clean with water.

Seeing the stones become wet one by one, Huo Sining nodded in satisfaction and then squatted down to examine them one by one.

Of course, Huo Sining started with that huge piece of wax skin.

Wax skin usually appears black and brown with layers of wax-like crust of varying thicknesses. Once washed with water, it reveals a greasy luster, resembling the skin of cured meat, hence the name.

Huo Sining held the rough stone in her palm; it was warm and smooth to the touch, but the inside left Huo Sining utterly disappointed. Azure Pearl showed no reaction, indicating there was no jadeite inside the stone.

Huo Sining had originally thought that such a large piece of rough stone, weighing at least twenty or thirty kilograms, was only 150,000 yuan, which works out to about 5,000 yuan per kilogram—indeed not very expensive. If she could bet on it and the value increased, she would make a fortune.

Unfortunately, the outcome was not as one would wish. Huo Sining felt a wave of disappointment and silently remarked that cheap goods indeed have no quality!

Huo Sining turned her head, gave Bai Yishan a slight shake, and was about to stand up to leave when, just as she was about to get up, the old man accidentally bumped Huo Sining’s hand with a piece of rough stone he was cleaning to put back on the display.

Huo Sining’s hand was scratched by the sharp edge of the stone, causing a sudden pain, and she couldn’t help but inhale sharply.

“Hiss,” Huo Sining uttered softly.

“Are you alright, young lady? I’m really sorry, did it hurt you?” the owner asked anxiously and somewhat embarrassed after realizing he had bumped into someone.

“It’s nothing,” Huo Sining replied, but her eyes were fixed on the piece of rough stone that had just hit her.

Azure Pearl was still flashing brightly on Huo Sining’s forehead, and she was somewhat dumbfounded. Who could have expected that there would be such superior jadeite among these add-ons?

With this unexpected discovery, Huo Sining naturally did not dare to be careless. She set that piece of rough stone aside and tested all of the remaining more than ten add-ons one by one.

If she hadn’t touched them, it wouldn’t have mattered, but upon touching them, she was startled.

The middle-aged man had fifteen pieces of add-on material of various sizes, and four of them were detected by Azure Pearl to have the potential to increase in value. Moreover, judging by the intensity of Azure Pearl’s flashing, the jadeite inside these rough stones was not inferior.

Huo Sining was perplexed. If one were to judge by the appearance of the rough stones, these add-ons didn’t look like worthless rocks and shouldn’t have been treated so carelessly, especially since the wax skin piece was not even as good as these add-ons. Why would the owner bring out so many rough stones as add-ons?

Huo Sining could not figure it out but, adhering to the principle of not passing up a good deal, she naturally wouldn’t let such an opportunity slip away.

Huo Sining was about to speak when suddenly, someone rushed over. Caught off guard, Huo Sining was pushed and fell to the ground.

When Huo Sining looked up, she saw Wu Linger looking at her with a smug face.
