Armed Train in the Apocalypse

A few women hurriedly ran forward, rushing straight to Carriage 27, skillfully exchanging supplies without wasting a single point.

Then they stuffed large and small bags of food and weapons into their oversized clothes. Though the shape was a bit bulky, they quickly blended into the grimy Scavengers. Under the indifferent gaze of the officers, they swiftly dashed past the swinging ”jerky” in the isolation zone and ran through two corners before finally relaxing upon seeing a group of men laughing quietly beside their motorcycles.

A man with a missing chunk of flesh on his arm spat, ”Thought you folks got shot and done for, only back now? I was about to leave!”

The woman displayed a generous bosom with a flattering smile, ”Brother San, don’t be mad; haven’t we got it now? With these supplies, our camp can keep going.”

Brother San’s eyes instantly lit up, and he swallowed hard.

Of course, he wasn’t interested in those drooping ”water bags,” but the compact submachine gun [Hummingbird-9] strapped above them was too tempting.

With this gem, zombies wouldn’t stand a chance!

The caravan expands quickly precisely because it has guns that can kill more zombies, obtain more supplies, and subsequently sustain more people.

More people accelerate the expansion.

Now with guns, what does the Xinma Gang amount to?

What does Wen Biao amount to?

”Quickly, there are soldiers coming!”

The woman kept looking back and forth, quickly alerting as patrol vehicles passed by.

Brother San’s eyes shifted, ”Did you really score with your old stuff?”

The woman said proudly, ”That young girl’s naive. If her man wasn’t around, I could’ve gotten more; now it’s just a small gain. But their armed train is so overbearing, if they realize, they’ll hang us.”

A few women divided their things, and the group hurriedly left on the motorcycle.

...

Inside the train.

”Hmph, never feel sorry for them again!”

Little Box recovered quickly, wiping her tears on Lin Jin’s shoulder, and spoke angrily.

”Come on, let’s find the conductor.”

Lin Jin held Little Box’s hand and headed straight to the dining car.

However, the dining car was empty; since neither was in a hurry, they didn’t bother the command station but leisurely passed through the lush farm carriage, heading towards Carriage 27 for exchange.

With sufficient sunlight from the Storm Zone, these plants grew even more pleasing. Coupled with the careful management by Huang Sea and Xiaowang, the green plant corridor in Cars 7 and 8 blossomed with various harmless plants competing in bloom. As it was quiet, the young couple often took a stroll when free.

Since the duties and army were divided, the doors between train cars no longer closed, but served more for emergencies. Subsequent reforms saw Nonsense and other management adding many details to perfect the Rule of the train.

For example, only Level 3 Crew and above could freely enter the first twelve carriages.

Ordinary crew could enter only when necessary for tasks.

Regarding the first three cars, while no specific rules existed, a consensus had formed where only head crew could freely come and go. Department managers and Level 5 Crew could enter only when the train conductor held meetings.

Thus, other lower-level members wanting to unwind could only wait for the train to stop or go to the Cultivation Pod that opened at fixed times, with fewer plants but more space, resembling a train park.

Carriage 27 was a bustling scene, Scavengers and Xinma County survivors, dressed in various colors, prayed to exchange more supplies with treasures dug from the ruins. Logistics crew sorted the collected items in the armed hall at the rear of the carriage, cursing as they worked.

The exchange window was much quieter, only hearing the crew throwing questions.

Before the two approached, they saw a radio thrown from the window, and an old lady wrapped in clothes leaped for it swiftly, carrying an ounce of bitterness on her face and pleaded with the radio in hand, ”Young girl, could you help me look again?”

Su Reya’s irritated reprimand echoed from within, ”Bring this junk to waste my time again, and I’ll have it buried with you!”

The old lady’s expression froze momentarily, then she silently retreated.

Such incidents were frequent; even with soldiers watching nearby, one happened every so often.

Most were elderly, women, and children. If able-bodied men dared to act tough, soldiers would sweep them away, promptly dragging them off.

In just two days, the train had been scrubbed clean over a dozen times due to such events, even washing off some paint.

The two soon found the busy Nonsense.

”The conductor isn’t on the train now.”

”Not here?”

”Secretary Shu mentioned before leaving that he should return by tonight, likely within Xinma County.”

Nonsense provided an accurate answer.

”If you have urgent reports, you could have Professor Ma activate the communication enhancer to reach Secretary Shu.”

”We’re not in a rush, we’ll wait till evening.”

Lin Jin waved his hand.

While the few were chatting, a heavy, swift footstep resounded from the roof and then leaped down through the main entrance. Her white scale armor-tight suit emitted kaleidoscopic hues under sunlight, and the tall exoskeleton made her bend slightly to enter through the door.

The almond eyes swept through the crowd, and her icy voice reached everyone’s ears before she did.

”Collected parts have issues.”

Yu Jing didn’t waste words, manipulating the mechanical arm to extend forward, showcasing a precise mechanical component.

Nonsense’s expression turned heavy, ”Is it just this one, or do most have problems?”
