Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 438: Chapter 282: None of You Respect Him (2)

An entire wall in the room is made of bank vaults, and no one knows how many good things Li Wangchuan has hidden inside.

Passing by the partition wall formed by the vault is a giant floor-to-ceiling window.

Outside the window, with its constant rain, lies the ”New City,” now more accurately called ”Chuanto,” but people from the Acid Rain Zone are used to calling this place ”Taocity” or simply the ”New City.” And with the tide of zombies, the Steel Council has completely become history.

This is credited to Li Wangchuan’s persistent tendency to add the word ”Tao” to various names. Gradually, people have adopted this habit as an unwritten rule.

All the newborns in the New City have ”Tao” in their names.

Due to a shortage of manpower, the scale of the New City not only does not match its initial plans but is also smaller than the old base of the past.

There are only six main buildings, about the size of a small neighborhood.

With the six main buildings as pillars and rows of villas serving as city walls, a ”city” was created within the city.

And this is currently the largest city in the Acid Rain Zone, housing twenty thousand people.

So even if Haywood wants to find someone to chat with, there’s no place to go. Although Li Wangchuan has fallen out of favor, where he lives can still be considered a city, while other survivor settlements are still at the level of a restroom.

Suddenly, laughter echoed through the room.

Haywood was puzzled because he was promoted due to this battle, yet he wasn’t this happy.

What is Li Wangchuan, who lost his entire family, so happy about?

”They think of Su Huan as a piece of fat meat, ripe for the taking, and I’m sure Wang Yi was present!”

Li Wangchuan appeared behind Haywood, his eyes glinting with insight.

Haywood nodded, ”That guy’s a calamity star. Now, Black Kite has taken a big fall, and everyone will take it seriously.”

”No, the same thing will happen again.”

Haywood furrowed his golden brow, ”Friend, the people in big companies aren’t fools. I guarantee, no one will provoke this disaster star again.”

Li Wangchuan smiled inscrutably and raised the briefing in his hand.

”It will. Throughout this, there’s no mention of ’Su Huan’ or ’Train Commander,’ only dual professionals or Genetic Primordial. Even you, who know him best, are too arrogant to call him Train Commander.”

”You’re overthinking it, Li. It’s just a name, after all. Even so, the Armed Train becoming stronger won’t benefit you...”

Haywood explained.

”You all don’t respect him; how can you defeat him?”

Li Wangchuan shook his head with a grin and said no more.

”Strange Donghuang person...”

Haywood mumbled plaintively to the side.

...

When the major powers began to study the Genetic Primordial and this battle,

the Armed Train finally left the abandoned city’s ruins before nightfall.

It’s not that staying in the city overnight isn’t possible. For an Armed Train, underwater, at sea, on a deserted island, in an acid rain, in an abandoned city... no place is off-limits for overnight stays. But leaving the city center provides more peace and quiet.

Otherwise, a wave of zombies every now and then, a wave of survivors now and then; those on the train were already busy with post-battle affairs, so everyone chose to avoid trouble together.

At this moment, the Armed Train was parked on a section of the highway, the white whale bones crackling in the wind and sand.

Although a meeting was about to start, the atmosphere in the dining car was relatively relaxed. Director Xu, Professor Ma, and others, dressed in white lab coats, were holding a small academic salon, with some dried fruits and snacks on the table, and Xiaozhao occasionally serving tea to several eye-rolling old guys.

Perhaps because He Jie was not present, the Armed Corps was much quieter today.

Huang Sea, dressed like an old farmer, sat across from Li Han in the booth in front of the cabinet, chatting.

Besides these veterans, there were also many new faces today.

Tan Yunxi sat next to Lin Xi. Though not as stunning as the latter, Tang Yunxi had a touch more humanity, making them equally matched when put together.

Additionally, Ban Yunzhang, Su Reya, Qi Zhenbang, glasses, the cook, Old Liu, Lin Xia, and others appeared in the dining car.

These people might not be high-ranking but were all in key departments.

After all, this was the train’s first large-scale post-battle summary, so they brought them along at Shu Wei’s suggestion.

According to their level of familiarity, everyone gathered in small circles of threes and fours.

Surprisingly, the most surrounded person wasn’t Yu Yue or Professor Ma and others, but the usually gentle Nonsense.

As the head of the logistics team, Nonsense had taken on almost all the responsibilities of the head conductor.

Previously, he even covered some of the Train Commander’s secretary duties.

Most of the extra newcomers today were senior crews under his charge.

Despite the large number of people, Nonsense handled it all methodically. He greeted the other high-ranking officials first, then tried his best to take care of each crew member present, making sure no one felt neglected.

Nonsense saw a middle-aged man in formal wear sitting in the corner. His gray-blue shirt and trousers didn’t match the rest of the people, and his suit seemed like a borrowed one, fitting him snugly. Already slightly awkward, the man appeared even more so under these circumstances.

”Old Liu, how’s the work intensity lately?”

Facing Nonsense’s inquiry, Old Liu seemed overwhelmed, stood up hastily, intending to shake hands, but then felt it was too intimate.

Nonsense patted his little arm, signaling him not to be tense.

Old Liu replied with a smile, ”It’s pretty good; actually, it’s much easier than before.”

Nonsense feigned a scolding tone, ”You sly Old Liu, are you saying the tasks I assigned you are too strenuous?”

”No, no...”

After a few jokes, Nonsense casually asked, ”How are your two apprentices doing?”

Old Liu chuckled, ”They’re pregnant!”

Nonsense’s smile stiffened, caught off guard by the revelation.

The reason he asked about those two apprentices was that the Train Commander assigned them to Old Liu so that he could report back if Su Huan ever inquired. But Old Liu’s surprise response left him speechless.

Nearby, Xiaowang, Huang Sea’s assistant, leaned over with a mischievous grin and asked, ”Both are pregnant?”

Old Liu glared, ”Mind your business, keep babbling, and I’ll teach you a lesson.”

Nonsense shook his head with a wry smile, ”Oh dear, how many months?”

”Just a month.”

”Make sure to buy more food to nourish the pregnant women. If the ration points aren’t enough, let me know.”

Nonsense gave a few instructions.

He then turned to the dejected face of Lin Xia, about to speak when he sensed the atmosphere quieting.

A needle-like sense of danger emanated from the front; without looking up, Nonsense knew the Train Commander had arrived.

Since the last battle, the biological magnetic field neutralization device had failed. Luckily, everyone on the train was an Evolver, preventing anyone from being scared to death by the Train Commander.

But for those high-ranking individuals who often had to face the Train Commander, it was quite an ordeal.

The Train Commander, dressed in his timeless black shirt, emerged, squinted at the group, then sat on his orange cat sofa. In the moment he sat, the originally short sofa became the highest ”throne” in the entire carriage.

All eyes focused on the twenty-three-year-old young man.

”Where’s He Jie?”

The chubby Pang Tu in the crowd pursed his lips, holding back laughter, ”The bow tie snapped.”

Su Huan was momentarily puzzled, ”What bow tie?”

Curious, everyone turned to Pang Tu, who had to start with the basics of surgical knots, explaining why shoelace bows, among other knots for stitching wounds, are not acceptable.

Lao San seemed confused, ”We have talented people on board; why don’t we have more trained to avoid Lin Xia and the others from getting overwhelmed?”

Most high-level talents, including Director Xu, shook their heads slightly.

Mountain Goat, holding his belly, chuckled, ”What’s to learn, knot-tying from Lin Xia?”

The group burst into laughter, while Lin Xia’s expression grew even more forlorn.

Lao San still looked puzzled, ”Look at my big brother; he couldn’t do anything initially, and through self-study, he can now make guns. What’s so hard about learning medicine? Besides, don’t we have professionals like Pang Tu?”

Pang Tu waved his hands repeatedly, ”I can’t be considered a professional. I can barely patch up external injuries, as ensuring survival on the battlefield is enough. Professional surgery requires a strong theoretical foundation, unlike making guns.”

Lao San, ”Isn’t Lin Xia a doctor?”

Lin Xia looked embarrassed, ”I studied surgery... but my specialization wasn’t in that field, so I didn’t pay much attention.”

Su Huan wasn’t particularly surprised by this.

The train’s medical capabilities have always been a weak point, not because he didn’t want to strengthen them, but because of a lack of professionals.
