Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 416: Chapter 272: First Merit

With the physique of a Tier One Evolver, even with some minor injuries, he could still carry a person and move swiftly.

Yanbei Pass had long lost its functionality and become a historic site for sightseeing, completely engulfed by the city due to modern construction, and coincidentally stuck right in the middle of the Flood Zone and the Storm Zone due to its geographical location.

A shot from the armed train easily brought it down.

The accumulated floodwaters surged out, instantly changing the surrounding terrain.

Gazing at the muddy torrents below and the cars that resembled small metal boxes, Cao Yong felt a chill in his heart. Not to mention him, even a Tier Two Evolver wouldn’t dare jump down. Getting swept in would be no different from jumping into a meat grinder.

Initially, he thought the armed train’s demolition of Yanbei Pass was purely an act of provocation.

This was clearly a long-planned war strategy!

Originally, Black Kite’s special agents had arrived a month earlier than the armed train to eliminate all threats around Yanbei Pass that could potentially affect the negotiations.

In the process, they not only familiarized themselves with the terrain but also left countless hidden traps.

Yet with just this one attack, all preparations were wasted.

The site turned from an abandoned city to a city of torrents.

It changed from being Black Kite’s home ground to the armed train’s home ground!

Cao Yong looked towards the direction of the theater, where the magnificent Ascension Ladder was dissolved into a steel fortress. The armed train rode the rising floodwaters, steadily moving towards the theater, with explosions lighting up the rainy night from time to time.

”Captain, maybe you should leave first...”

A subordinate whispered from behind.

Cao Yong frowned and chided, ”Where can we go with such a flood? This building is quite sturdy; let’s find a place to take shelter from the rain.”

Cao Yong led his subordinates into the office building beneath their feet.

Before the apocalypse, the office building was a jewelry trading center, and now only a few Tier One Zombies roamed inside.

Various precious jade, jewelry, and gold ornaments were on display in the cabinets.

If this were before the apocalypse, grabbing a handful would have been the earnings of a lifetime for an ordinary person, but now they were like stones, left unattended.

With his exoskeleton and powerful personal equipment, Cao Yong easily took down three Tier One Zombies and over a dozen ordinary zombies. Since these zombies didn’t affect the negotiations, they were ignored by Black Kite’s cleaning crew.

Flicking up his helmet, Cao Yong exhaled deeply, ”Fighting these things in the middle of the night is really damn unnerving.”

”Captain, shouldn’t we regroup with the main forces?”

”They’re probably scattered, and besides, today isn’t even our duty. I just came by to pick someone up, who knew the armed train would be so dishonorable, launching a surprise attack on a 40-something veteran like me.”

Cao Yong muttered resentfully.

”If only Brother Zhong were here; with his skills, the armed train wouldn’t have been able to break through the Flood Zone!”

The subordinate said fiercely.

Thinking of his old friend’s kid, Cao Yong felt a vague unease.

Zhong You had great talent and evolved quickly, but his age was what it was, so even after becoming a Tier One elite Evolver, he remained under Cao Yong’s command, blocked from being transferred several times with the excuse of needing more training.

But now Zhong You had evolved to Tier Two, and even if Cao Yong was also a Tier Two, he couldn’t keep an Evolver of the same level in his team.

The company couldn’t allow such a waste of resources.

”Take care of your wound yourself, I’ll go keep watch.”

With a heavy heart, Cao Yong tossed a medical kit to his subordinate and walked outside.

Standing by the bed, he looked at the distant flashes of explosions and lightning, feeling that sense of unease dissipate quite a bit.

Inside the room, the subordinate didn’t turn on the light but activated an electronic screen on the arm of the exoskeleton, using the faint light to barely manage the wound on his leg.

He stitched up the largest wound, instinctively reaching for the tweezers by his side, but couldn’t seem to find them.

Just as he was about to turn around, a pair of tweezers holding a cotton ball soaked in iodine was handed over.

The subordinate chuckled, ”Thanks, Captain.”

The other person chuckled too, ”No problem.”

Hearing that voice, the subordinate trembled all over, adrenaline spiking, activating the ”combat factor” within him. Even the pain in his leg was blocked by his nerves, his energy and spirit soaring to their peak, ready to fight at full capacity.

The next second, six long rifles and short guns pointed at him.

His boiling blood cooled down instantly, muscles locked, unable to move an inch.

Before he could react, a metallic black egg was forcibly stuffed into his mouth, and since it didn’t fit at first, the person even used the butt of a gun to hammer it in.

Returning from his lookout, Cao Yong heard this dull thump from outside the door.

His pupils immediately contracted. Instead of rushing in to check, he didn’t even dare to inquire, silently retracting his foot that he had just placed forward.

He turned and ran!

”Boom!”

Two explosions sounded simultaneously.

Cao Yong was blown back. If it weren’t for the exoskeleton he wore, the two rockets would have killed him on the spot.

Just as Cao Yong, lying on the ground, was about to release the power limiter of his exoskeleton, two heavy sniper shots shattered his hands.

”Since you’re here, stop struggling.”

A heavy foot stepped on his chest, tapping on his exoskeleton, quickly dismantling all his gadgets with ease, even removing the ejectable armor and backup power supply.

Watching the opponent’s skilled technique, Cao Yong felt a chill spread through his heart.

All sorts of chaotic thoughts churned in his mind.
