Reborn in the Apocalypse: A Seductive Beauty Captivates a Pure-hearted Roughneck

103: Chapter 103 Overturned the Table of His SaviorXu Wanning’s walkie-talkie rang. She glanced at the surveillance camera in the diagonal corner. ”Coming.”

”A-Yue, you take everyone to turn in the mission. I’m going to the conference room.” After saying this, she left quickly.

Many people were gathered in the conference room, all of them experts from various fields.

Just as Xu Wanning was about to enter, she heard someone speaking inside, and she stopped subconsciously.

”The Great Leader, our number of Ability Users is too low. If we could develop a serum that allows ordinary people to awaken Supernatural ability, we wouldn’t need to worry about the number of zombies anymore.”

”Exactly, The Great Leader. We just need to gather some Ability Users, extract their blood and genes, process them, and inject them into ordinary people. It might actually work.”

”If it really works, we might even be able to develop a vaccine for the zombie virus. After all, based on our observations, Ability Users don’t mutate after being bitten by zombies. This proves that there are antibodies in the bodies of Ability Users, which we can just extract.”

Xu Wanning clenched her fists. It was here; the day had finally arrived.

She walked in, and the people talking inside subconsciously shut their mouths.

”Nickname, we plan to develop a vaccine for the zombie virus. What do you think?” The Great Leader’s tone was very flat; it was unclear whether he was asking for her opinion or informing her.

”Is it pure research, or does it involve researching both Ability Users and ordinary people together?”

Xu Wanning was very sensitive. In her past life, many underground Research Institute facilities operated under the guise of research, kidnapping Ability Users and experimenting on them daily, subjecting them to endless torture.

Their true goal wasn’t to find a solution to the zombie virus, but to allow ordinary people to become Ability Users, profiting from such methods.

Ability Users without backgrounds became their test subjects, while those ordinary people with deep connections became the new Ability Users.

However, they only remained Ability Users for a few short days. The method of extracting genes from Ability Users only briefly altered their genes, and rejection soon occurred. Those people all died, and they died miserably.

Even so, such research never stopped. After all, there were plenty of people with connections; when one batch was gone, the next would rise.

The Great Leader didn’t expect Xu Wanning to ask back like that. ”Did you discover something wrong?”

Xu Wanning shook her head. ”I just oppose human experimentation. If it’s purely researching zombies, I don’t object, but if you want to involve Ability Users and ordinary people in the research, I will absolutely oppose it to the end.”

This was the first time she had spoken so firmly to The Great Leader, making her stance clear.

The Great Leader didn’t say anything, but his subordinates were unhappy. ”Xu Wanning, you merely provided the news that The Apocalypse was coming. Do you really think you can stand on equal footing with The Great Leader?”

Xu Wanning glared at them. ”You can try it. I’m not someone who likes to interfere, but if one day the country cannot protect its people, I will definitely be the first to stand up!”

The Great Leader’s expression wasn’t good either, but he quickly relaxed. ”Nickname, don’t misunderstand. We have no intention of researching Ability Users and ordinary people; we are only researching the zombie virus.”

Xu Wanning shrugged. ”Mm, then I don’t object. Since it has nothing to do with me, I’ll be leaving first.”

She turned and walked out, but she didn’t go far.

”The Great Leader, isn’t she a bit ignorant of the immensity of heaven and earth? She really thinks of herself as a great hero.”

”Exactly, to speak to us like that. She completely doesn’t respect you at all.”

”What are you all spouting nonsense about? If it weren’t for her, would we old bones still be here now? We might have been bitten to death by zombies at the very beginning.”

”Who’s to say it isn’t? Now that we’ve survived, you want to overturn the table on our life-saver? Do you have no shame?”

”A simple thank you would suffice, is there a need to give so many benefits? Living in a big villa, not handing over the crystal nucleus from missions—isn’t that treating them too well? I heard The Great Leader even gave her 100 million points. We work ourselves to the bone and still can’t save that much.”

”Working to the bone? You stay in the Safe Zone every day and just talk, and you call that working to the bone? Nickname leads a team to kill zombies every day. If it weren’t for her, you would have been dead long ago.”

The people in the conference room split into two sides and started arguing.

The Great Leader rubbed his temples. ”Stop arguing. I have said that Nickname is the great benefactor of our Huaxia. If it weren’t for her, this moment would be our death anniversary!”

”She said that when the second Acid Rain descends, the entire army would be wiped out, and no one would survive. That we can sit here properly now is all her credit.”

Some were still dissatisfied. ”Who knows if what she said is a lie? Maybe she just intentionally made the situation sound more serious to make us grateful to her.”

Heh, Xu Wanning sneered. It seems trouble is bound to happen sooner or later. She has too many privileges in the base, and she has touched some people’s cake.

She walked outside, having made up her mind.

She never thought of herself as a life-saver, but she had her own principles. If this place had changed, she would definitely not stay.

Returning to the villa, Lu Chengyue and the others had already finished turning in their mission and were gathered in the living room eating dinner.

”Ningning, what happened? Why do you look so bad?” Lu Zhiyu immediately put down the apple she was chewing on and looked at her with concern.

”We might have to leave.” Xu Wanning walked over and sat on the sofa. ”In the meeting just now, I heard that many people are dissatisfied with the privileges our team possesses. They think I only informed them about The Apocalypse, which doesn’t count as saving everyone.”

”Plus, they want to create a vaccine for the zombie virus. I demanded that they only research zombies and not Ability Users or ordinary people, which made some people unhappy.”

”As ordinary people, they want to obtain methods to acquire Supernatural ability by researching Ability Users, so this experiment is imperative to them.”

”I can’t protect so many people, and I simply can’t do it. The only way to reduce losses is to leave Jing City. For those willing to come with me, I guarantee they won’t be captured for experiments. For those who aren’t, there’s nothing I can do.”

She didn’t want it to come to this, but there was no other way. As long as someone had this idea, more people would join in, including ordinary people, who also wanted to become Ability Users.

”Let’s go, we’ll pack our things and leave right now!” Grandpa Zhou stood up. ”Sigh, let’s find a good place, establish a safe base, and be self-sufficient!”

Xu Yu stood up. ”Right, self-sufficient! I remember Jin City (fictional) seems to have no living people left. Why don’t we go there? With zombies protecting us, it would be difficult for anyone to hunt us down.”

Xu Wanning smiled. ”Hunting us down won’t happen; The Great Leader isn’t that kind of person. Moreover, I believe he also firmly opposes using survivors for experiments. It’s just that, as he said, it doesn’t mean his subordinates will do the same. There are always some rats who like to do bad things in the gutter.”

”Tomorrow, we’ll take the opportunity of going on a mission to leave. We’ll inform The Great Leader when we are about to head out to avoid any complications.”

Since they had decided to leave, there was no need to drag it out. Dragging it out for too long would easily lead to trouble.

Heaven knows how many people in the shadows currently wanted her life. Whether it was out of jealousy or something else, in any case, saving her own life was what mattered most.
