Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 1045: Chapter 1025: ’Insider

Yet on the second day of the Old Master’s visit, the base’s meals had an incident.

It wasn’t food poisoning or diarrhea, but the dishes became extremely meaty and oily.

The Old Master ate happily, and so did everyone else.

The only problem was, who exactly cooked it?

This question was first raised by the Old Master.

He directly sought out Deng Ming, as he was the immediate commander: ”Did you order today’s meals to be cooked this way?”

Deng Ming stood firm and, upon hearing Old Master Luo’s words, shook his head puzzledly: ”No, I thought it was instructed by Qhianqhian.”

”Qhianqhian has been busy with her grandmother lately...” Old Master Luo quickly shook his head, his brow furrowed.

No matter how he thought about it, something felt off. Besides family, who else knew he was so scared of vegetarian food?

If it were in the Capital City, it might be more plausible, as nothing can be hidden in that place.

But in such a remote place, would someone know such details about him?

Old Master Luo felt something was very wrong.

When Luo Qianqian received the call from Old Master Luo, she was shocked too. Someone actually knew about the Old Master’s diet?

Luo Qianqian immediately brought Yue Tingyu to the base, her face serious, as if it were some major event.

They went straight to the chef, frowning as they looked at him.

The chef hadn’t worked here for long either, but the conditions were good, and the food was fresh every day. Plus, he could train along without interrupting his cooking work, giving him some freedom.

Cooking three meals a day wasn’t hard.

Occasionally, there might be tests at night, requiring some dry food preparation ahead, nothing too complicated, just some buns and salted duck eggs would suffice.

”Did you make today’s meal?” Luo Qianqian asked directly.

Old Master Luo looked surprised. If it wasn’t the chef, then who else?

He specifically inquired and found that the only ones cooking were this person and his wife; there was no one else.

”...Um.” The man rubbed his nose, a sheen of sweat glistening on it.

”If you’re caught lying, you’ll be immediately dismissed with no chance of recovery. In Heavenly Shield, integrity is paramount!” Luo Qianqian emphasized word by word: ”Now, please tell me, did you alone make today’s meal?”

The man dared not speak. Though she was just a kid, one couldn’t get in here without connections, plus this kid always stayed in the best room here.

Only after this old man came did he stop reporting on time.

Thinking of what that person said, he rubbed his nose awkwardly but said nothing.

If speaking was lying, then staying silent should be fine, right?

After all, it’s your fault for thinking that way.

Old Master Luo furrowed his brow, considering if there was an insider who had bribed the chef?

Heavenly Shield is still in training phase and hasn’t gone public, so why would anyone bribe the chef?

Since food is a matter of great importance, Luo Qianqian was very selective when choosing cooks.

She not only found ones with good skills but also inquired around their previous workplaces.

Only those who resigned and were not badmouthed by the shop owners, who expressed regret and did not speak ill of the boss, could advance to the second round.

The food project was simple, a cabbage made into four dishes and one soup.

Initially, there were twenty-three chefs, but by the second round, only four remained.

The second round tested not only flavor but also innovation.

This one succeeded by using a combination of frying, stir-frying, and stewing a soup to win Luo Yanran’s favor, who was one of the judges, and thus was selected.

If there was a problem now, both Luo Qianqian, who checked backgrounds, and Luo Yanran, who tasted the food, would be implicated.

Yet, these two were the least likely to harm Old Master Luo.

One is a biological grandson, the other a biological granddaughter.

”Check the surveillance. If there were outsiders in the kitchen, it’s the chef’s dereliction, and he’ll be fired.” Luo Qianqian declared resolutely as she turned and left the kitchen.

The man’s gaze fell on the surveillance camera in the corner, and then he began to panic.

”No... It was the Chief Instructor who did the cooking. He said the meals needed occasional improvement. The materials were also brought in by the Chief Instructor.” The man anxiously followed her out.

If it weren’t for Luo Qianqian reminding him, he would have forgotten about the surveillance...

”Chief Instructor?” Luo Qianqian raised her eyebrow, full of disbelief.

There are two Chief Instructors. One of them went missing, and the other is Deng Ming. She didn’t think Deng Ming would go through such trouble; if he had the time, he would arrange the next training projects.

But Luo Xiying... he wasn’t even here, was he?

”What’s going on?” Luo Xiying came in carrying a large fiber bag, seeing Luo Qianqian and Old Master Luo looking grim, even Yue Tingyu aside was visibly displeased and gloomy, surprised: ”What happened?”

The man quickly grabbed onto Luo Xiying: ”Chief Instructor, please explain, the meals were cooked by you, it has nothing to do with me...”

Luo Qianqian twitched her lips, indeed a well-informed ’insider’ for Old Master Luo.

Of course, a son would know his own father’s diet, right?

”You little brat!” Yue Tingyu quickly changed her usual gentle demeanor, marching up to Luo Xiying and pinching his ear, her face full of anger: ”Don’t you know your dad can’t eat those? How dare you cook that? Do you want to go wild just because I’m not around?”

”Mom, mom, Xiao Qianqian is still here, give me some face please...” Luo Xiying smiled wryly, not expecting it would alarm these two during his cooking.

He just wanted to give the old man a feeling of being back in the army.

But... whose army serves all meat dishes? And greasy ones where you can’t see any greens?

”You still want face? Even Qhianqhian knows grandpa can’t eat like this, at most, she’d secretly buy a fried chicken leg or beef fillet for him. What do you do? All meat, all pork, are you tired of us living too long?” Yue Tingyu was clearly displeased, her face showing apparent dissatisfaction.

Luo Qianqian silently looked away, screaming inside: This is not the usual grandma!!!

Yue Tingyu always had a gentle, kind demeanor, her words exuding the grace of experience, elegantly drawing everyone’s attention.

This person... pulling uncle’s ear and calling him a brat, is really grandma?

Luo Qianqian was very doubtful.

Luo Xiying was also on the verge of tears.

Ever since the eldest brother had a son, he rarely saw mother like this, and it’s been over twenty years, why... did it happen again, why is he feeling nostalgic?

He is definitely not a masochist!!!
