Immortality by Merit and Sin Coins

Chapter 139: Chapter 97: Taking Control of Shihu

Everyone now sincerely hoped that Yu Sheng could maintain firm control over Shihu City.

Unfortunately, given the comment from the senior Cultivator Duchuan, the chances of that were slim...

”Get back to your tasks.”

Yu Sheng gave a light wave of her sleeve.

After the disciples bowed respectfully, they left the inn one after another.

The cold, detached look on her face was quickly replaced by nervousness.

This Immortal Descendant, who had projected such a powerful aura just moments ago, hurriedly grabbed the kettle and, GULP GULP GULP, drank until she was full.

Her palms sweaty, she clutched at Lin Shu’s sleeve, her face full of anticipation. ”So? Was I convincing?”

”Convincing as what?”

Even Lin Shu hadn’t expected the little one’s performance to be so good.

Having received four more streams of Inheritance Spiritual Light, she was now able to reveal a bit of her strength.

He had taught her all this, but Yu Sheng had indeed performed very well.

’It was just a little too theatrical.’

’It made you want to pinch her cheeks.’

”Convincing as you, of course.”

Yu Sheng giggled, wiping her mouth haphazardly with her sleeve, then looked at Yan Jin. ”See? I told you! As long as I talk and act like Lin Shu, I’ll perfectly embody that ’Master’ persona. It’s so impressive! Right?”

”I’ve run through it in my head so many times. Watch. For example, if someone were looking for me...”

With that, she put on a cold expression again, raising an eyebrow at some distant point. Her red lips parted slightly as she said coolly, ”Yes?”

”It’s close, but it’s still missing something.”

Yan Jin was stunned for a moment. After observing carefully, she nodded in deep agreement.

...

Lin Shu sneered and pried her hand off him, not bothering to argue with the little brat.

’This only works here in Yongzhou Pass. If we were anywhere else...’

’If people didn’t know this little chick was an Immortal Descendant of the Yu Family, she’d get beaten black and blue for that punchable attitude of hers.’

’I’m nothing like that.’

”You take her and see if she can switch to cultivating an Inner Technique.”

Lin Shu turned and went back to sit behind the counter.

’The Chen Family are only Scattered Immortals. That woman has been in Yongzhou Pass for so long, yet her Magical Power is barely comparable to Dao Essence.’

’Combined with her attitude, Yan Jin definitely had no future under her.’

’With the cautionary tale of Gu Nanzhi...’

’While Yan Jin has just reached Foundation Establishment and can switch her cultivation under Yu Sheng’s guidance, it’s best to get it done quickly.’

’Otherwise, Shihu City might end up with another Demon, and we can’t count on a Xie Yutang to show up and save the day. That would be too much trouble.’

”Okay! Come with me.”

Yu Sheng grabbed Yan Jin’s hand and, THUMP THUMP THUMP, they charged up to the second floor.

As the two women left,

the inn gradually started to fill with customers.

Lin Shu lounged leisurely in his chair, enjoying the momentary peace.

Just then, he suddenly noticed a slightly strange figure.

Perhaps it was because he had seen so many Demons,

but recently, he found himself subconsciously paying more attention to people with physical disabilities.

This was especially true for this old man, who not only had one arm, but it was also unnaturally thick. Even among the crowd of Laborers who made a living with their brawn, he stood out.

This person wore a special token at his waist.

It was equivalent to a merchant’s travel permit, except it signified that the bearer had returned from the Great Shun Dynasty.

Seeing the old man walk towards the counter,

Lin Shu leaned lazily against his chair back, barely lifting his eyelids. ”Yes?” he asked coolly.

The one-armed old man smiled, his gaze quietly landing on the Jade Token at the young man’s waist. ”I’ve been traveling hard,” he said politely. ”I was hoping to ask the Shopkeeper for some hot water.”

...

「Inside Shihu City.」

Chen Xiangzhu walked alone, her body radiating such a vicious aura that passersby dared not approach.

She suddenly stopped and looked up at the hunchbacked figure hurrying toward her.

A mocking, venomous look flashed in the young woman’s eyes. ”You certainly change your tune quickly. Eagerly sucking up to them, are you? Are you trying to cozy up to that Mountain God, or are you hoping to latch onto that esteemed disciple of the Cyan Simurgh?”

”There’s no need to mock me, Miss Chen.”

Steward Luo looked up, his expression impassive. ”If you make a decision, you can come find me at any time.”

...

A look of wariness crossed Chen Xiangzhu’s face, but she quickly sneered. ”Do you take me for an idiot? Demons are running rampant; I can’t risk going out there. As for that foolish Yu, she’ll be ousted in a month at most.”

Magical Artifacts, Immortal Techniques, Elixirs.

What could that woman possibly provide to support the disciples?

When it came to actual ability, governing the Border Region outside the city wasn’t a contest of who could eat pork knuckles the fastest.

This woman had no experience.

After two or three shifts defending the pass, at most, problems were bound to arise.

While Yu Sheng enjoyed this status, she also had to bear the corresponding responsibility.

If the Signal Towers were breached two or three times, costing the lives of some disciples and Laborers and the loss of some Spirit Medicine and Treasure Ores, then no matter how powerful the Yu Family was, they would have to punish her accordingly.

Otherwise, how could they maintain the people’s respect?

As for the trouble this hunchbacked steward was in, it was completely different from her own.

Chen Xiangzhu wanted Shihu City, but he was being hunted by Cultivators from the Great Shun Dynasty. They were hardly in the same boat.

”Instead of wasting your time trying to bewitch me, you should think about... how to speed up this process.” Chen Xiangzhu started walking, her tone full of meaning.

”If I can take control of Shihu, then maybe, if I’m in a good mood, I might even protect you.”

...

Steward Luo was silent for a moment, then also started walking.

’Of course I won’t let Yu Sheng control Shihu, and I certainly won’t let Lin Shu leave the Border Region alive.’

The old man glanced at the Child Stone in his hand, his expression turning sinister.

’The idea of one man defending the Shihu Border Region alone was laughable.’

’Besides, he had been entrenched in Shihu for many years. His connections weren’t limited to the Great Shun Dynasty.’

’He had laid groundwork in other places as well.’

At this thought, Steward Luo turned his head towards the mountains, his gaze flickering uncertainly.

If he hadn’t been forced into a corner...

the old man truly didn’t want to get involved with those things.

’But I wonder if that fellow Lin, when he was being so aggressive, ever considered...’

’...that the Border Region Steward he looked down upon, if pushed to pay any price...’

’...had the means to contact even a notoriously vicious Demon General!’

’Don’t forget, the Moon-Devouring has come out of the mountains, and it’s waiting for blood to dye its banners!’

”You forced my hand.”
